BOOTAY PATRICIA ELIZABETH (LEHRER) Beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, long-term resident of both Pleasant Hills, PA and Little River, SC passed away on April 18, 2017, at the age of 92. On January 3, 1925, Patty was welcomed into the world by her parents, William Peter Lehrer and Frances Rieff (Meuser) Lehrer, and her adoring older siblings, Bill, Jack and Ginny. The family lived in Staten Island, NY, moving briefly to Columbus, OH before settling in Upper Montclair, NJ. Always active, Patty was an avid tennis player and a member of the New Jersey Intramural Championship Basketball team of 1943 while in high school. Upon graduation, Patty made her mark in New York City, working in publishing while modeling with the Clinton Conover Modeling Agency. She maintained her roots at home as an engaged member of the Montclair Athletic Club and Montclair Operetta organization. It was at the New Jersey shore where Patty met the love of her life, Robert S. “Boots” Bootay. Upon first seeing Boots, Patty prophetically declared to a friend, “That is the man I am going to marry!” Both from Upper Montclair, they made an immediate connection and indeed married shortly thereafter on March 20, 1948. As a young family with two small sons in tow, they moved to Pittsburgh, PA from Atlanta, GA in 1958, settling in Pleasant Hills a year later. For the next 20 years, they raised their family and built their life as involved members of the community. Patty served as the President of the Pleasant Hills Community United Presbyterian Church's Women's Association and was a member of the Pleasant Hills Zoning Board. Active in her professional life as well, Patty spent ten years with The Fabric Tree, first as Manager of the South Hills Village store and over time as the Area Manager for Western PA and Eastern OH. In 1979, Patty and Boots happily retired to Little River, SC where Patty made her home for the next 30 years. Still a vigorous volunteer, Patty ran town voting polls, was a member of the association of Windjammer Village and President of the annual rummage sale for her North Myrtle Beach church - St. Stephen's Episcopal. After Boots, her husband of 50 years passed away, Patty began to experience her own health issues. In 2009, she returned to Pleasant Hills to be near family and friends and joyfully rejoin the Pleasant Hills Community United Presbyterian Church, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Patty was predeceased by her parents; siblings; husband, Robert S.; and oldest son, Robert “Bob”, Jr. She leaves behind a loving family who miss her deeply; her son, Brian, of New Jersey, daughter-in-law, Lynne; three doting grandchildren as well as six adoring great- grandchildren, Robert III (Liz), Grace, Robert IV and David Bootay: Elizabeth (Andy), Faith, Lillian and Charlotte Rockwell and SGT. HOBBS PATRICIA G. Patricia G. Hobbs was a beautiful lady; she was the perfect Mom (Grandmother and Great-Grandmother). It is difficult to find the words that best describe Patricia, our mother, but a few are caring, loving, funny, and thoughtful. Patricia, along with her husband of 51 years, raised five children. She was an active member in the community and her children's schools. She was a proud resident of Neville Island, where she lived the majority of her life and kept the family home as a beacon of her strength. Patricia had a few jobs during her life, but the one we know she loved was homemaker and mother. The most important lessons were not verbal; they were in her actions. She always worked hard, never complained, and was always there when you needed her the most. She loved music, playing the piano, and being with family and friends. She was our mother, our friend, and will be missed every day for the rest of our lives. Patricia was born in Belle Vernon on October 7, 1934, daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Theresa Irene (Garren) Gilmore. In 2007, she was preceded by her husband, James Hobbs, whom she married on June 30, 1956. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nine sisters and brothers, Eliza Atkinson, Hazel Maxwell, Betty Jean Minor, Eva Adkins, Margaret Sheridan, Bud Gilmore, Louis Gilmore, Jim Gilmore, and Beatrice Roush. He was also a frequent speaker at legal seminars aand conferences round the country on litigation strategy, FDA regulations, and product liability issues. His legal practice included litigation strategy, corporate governance, and complex commercial transactions. Dedication to obtaining successful outcomes for his clients was a hallmark of his work. He also served on several boards including the Board of Trustees of the Georgetown University Corporate Counsel Institute and the Board of Trustees for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) foundation for research and development. HUSTON PATRICIA WELLS KELLER November 15, 1925 - April 20, 2017. Pat Huston was born in Tallahassee, Florida, to Thomas Lester Wells and Mildred Ella Hendry Wells. She was predeceased by her beloved younger brother, Thomas Lester Wells, Jr. She was married to the late Melvin Reed (Bob) Keller from 1944 to 1995 and to the late Clyde J. (Sam) Huston from 1995 to 2003. She was a devoted mother to her four children, Cynthia Keller Richey (Jerome) of California, Melissa Lynn Keller Appel (Donald) of California; Eric Reed Keller (Diane Petrilla) of Tennessee; and Kevin Lane Keller (Punam) of New Hampshire; a loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Keith Alistair Richey (Merrill Feather), Brett Alexander Richey, Erika Michelle Keller, Joshua Reed Keller (Erin), Lee Curtis Appel (Dayon), Carolyn Wells Keller, and Allison Reed Keller; and a proud great-grandmother of Audrey Appel, Roslyn Keller, Reed Richey, and Gus Richey. Pat graduated with a B.A. in English from Florida State University in 1947 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1949. Her Master's thesis was on the French Constitution of 1946 and she conducted nearly all her research in French. Pat began her lifelong love of all things French when she was quite young and was enthusiastic about the history, literature, culture, and, especially, the language. Fluent in French, she spent more than 30 summers studying and traveling in France, and she participated in several French language and culture groups in Pittsburgh. Her facility for languages was remarkable. With a keen interest in and love for other languages, Pat was also fluent in Spanish, and she spoke and read Russian after studying it at the Air Force Academy in the early 1960s. She loved international travel and liked being able to talk to people in other countries, so before traveling to Germany and Italy, she learned those languages, too. Passionate about reading and education, Pat became a teacher in 1967, teaching English and Social Studies at Beavercreek High School in Xenia, Ohio. After moving to Pittsburgh with her family in 1968, she was a long-term substitute and homebound teacher for nearly 30 years at Thomas Jefferson, Mt. Lebanon, and Baldwin High Schools. Her passion for education was evident to all who knew her. Pat enjoyed volunteering and devoted her life to it. She taught Sunday School and served as a Brownie Girl Scout troop leader when her children were young. She was proudest of recording books for the blind for 35 years through the program at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. Because of her fluency, she recorded many books in French, including one about the influence of the Aeolian language in the time of Homer. For many years, she volunteered with refugees and other immigrants, teaching English and helping them adapt to life in the U.S., and becoming a friend of all. She was particularly proud of being able to help the late Young Woo Kang, whom she met during her work recording books for the blind. He became the first blind Korean to earn a Master's Degree and a Ph.D., helped develop Braille for the Korean language, and received many honors for his work as a disability rights advocate, professor, and author. As a member of Officers' Wives Clubs in several states, Pat was a superb duplicate bridge player and an avid participant in the World Affairs study groups. She and her first husband, Bob Keller, were championship duplicate bridge players, winning many tournaments in Colorado and Ohio. Pat also enjoyed needlework, cooking, baking, and gardening, and participating in her church Circles and Bible study groups. She instilled in her children the value of education and of helping others. Her children and grandchildren will also long remember her creative birthday cakes, her love of reading, and her enthusiasm for board games with family. Pat is survived by her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Point for their care and devotion since 2013. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Brother's Brother Foundation, 1200 Galveston Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233, www.brothersbrother.org or Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236, www. pleasanthillschurch.org.
