(Salerno) Santella; father of Daryl (Karen) Santella of Palm Desert, CA, Dale (Theresa) Santella of Export, PA, Danielle (Nick) Kaylor of Las Vegas, NV and Denise (Michael) Bogden of Las Vegas, NV; grandfather of Michelle (Eric) Kish of Jeannette, PA, Marie (Luke) Scholl of Jacksonville, NC and Michael Santella of Palm Desert, CA; great-grandfather of Brody James Kish, Brooklyn Paige Kish, Jackson Dario Scholl and Kennedy Jeanne Scholl. Dario was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Hurley. He was born September 22, 1921, in the town of Ateleta in the mountain region of Abruzzo, Italy. He immigrated to the United States at age 15 and later served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. For most of his career, Dario was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsburgh. He was an avid gardener, successful stock investor and great fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He and Phyllis enjoyed dancing and music and vacationing in the Caribbean and Mexico. When Dario was in his 80's, he took two special trips to Italy with his family to visit his birthplace. Dario's family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the skilled nursing staff at Las Ventanas at Summerlin for all of their help and support. He studied Garden Design and visited Japan, England, Africa and Iceland bringing their influence into the business he owned, Artist Gardens. Lawrence was a member of the Chrysanthemum Society of Pittsburgh, judging and winning many ribbons and trophies. He was a member of the Rock Garden Society of Pittsburgh. His latest design was a rock garden at the Aviary of Pittsburgh. He has many loyal customers in the Pittsburgh areas who he has designed gardens for. He is a member of the Photographic Section of the Academy of Science and Art, where he has made many long time friends who he has traveled with all over the United States, photographing and developing his photos. CALHOUN NORMAN EDWARD ED Norman Edward "Ed" Calhoun went to his eternal life with Christ on April 21, 2017, after living a beautiful and rich life on earth. He was born in Lewistown, PA on April 13, 1946 to Blair Robert and Clara Valerie "Dot" Calhoun. Ed is survived by his wife of 26 years Cindy Calhoun (Zawalish); his two children; and four grandsons; son Bryan Calhoun; daughter-in-law Heidi; grandsons, Grant and Adam in Bethel Park. PA; daughter Beth Hoffman (Calhoun); son-in-law Andrew Hoffman; grandsons, Drew and Michael, in Hagerstown, MD. He is also survived by his brother, Andrew Calhoun and his wife Kathy in Enola, PA. After serving in the Navy, Ed graduated from the University of Pittsburg with a degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career as a Deputy U.S. Marshall in Harrisburg. He transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue service, where he retired after 30 years of service. He loved being a Special Agent and firearms instructor. He had many interests in his wonderful life including firefighting, train and RV travel, scuba diving, photography, scouting and elongated penny machines. He continued his dad's work at the Lewistown train station by serving as the Project manager for the installation of a fire suppression system. Ed was also a Mason and Shriner. He was Past Master of Lodge 91 in Shepherdstown. He worked with the Philadelphia Shriner's Hospital as a transporter. He was involved in the Fire Service for more than 40 years. He instructed at the Pennsylvania Fire Academy, and had been the Fire Chief of the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department and a long term member of the Needmore Fire Department. He will be missed greatly by those whose lives he touched. Let us remember that we need not mourn when great men as these are lost, but rather celebrate that they had lived among us. STRUCK ROBERT THEODORE Passed away peacefully April 21, 2017. Bob was born April 26, 1921, in Harrisburg, PA, to Alice Clark Struck and Ferdinand Struck. He received his BS ('42), MS ('46) in Chemical Engineering, and his PhD in Fuel Technology ('50) from Penn State University. Bob worked as a project leader in the Department of Fuel Technology when he left school, and then worked 34 years for Consol. The majority of his time was spent working on the ability to commercially make gasoline from coal profitable. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; his brother, Jack; and his sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Clara; sons, Paul and Jim (Trudy); grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Rohmann, Alan (Whitney), Lonnie (Kate), Heather TenBarge, Chad TenBarge, and Jourdan Struck; great-grandchildren include, Sydney and Nate Rohmann, Blake, Addison, Grayson, Emma, and Grace Struck, Harlow and Quentin TenBarge. Among Bob's many accomplishments were: Eagle Scout, developing a lubricant for the Norden bomb sight during WWII, 12 patents, and National Chairman of the American Chemical Society. Bob was a member of Beverly Heights UP Church in Mt. Lebanon for over 60 years, and a member of the choir for over 50 years. In addition to his love of music, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, baseball (Pirates) and football (Steelers).
