BONK JOSEPH GEORGE On Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017, Joseph G. Bonk died peacefully in his sleep after a long and difficult struggle with heart disease, and just one week before his 87th birthday. Son of the late Katrina and Matej Bonk, Joe was born in Edenborn, PA and grew up in Brownsville, PA. He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Janet Teemer Bonk (his Princess); daughters, Cathy Bonk, M.D. and Christine Quel (Richard). He is also survived by two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Joe Bonk will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Byers Hall, Community College of Allegheny County, 808 Ridge Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. VESLANY MILDRED (SAVOLSKIS) Passed away peacefully on April 14, 2017, in Henderson, NV, age 92. She was born November 25, 1924, in West Homestead, PA, the daughter of Paul and Josephine Savolskis. Mildred was 11th of their 12 children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her five brothers and six sisters. Mildred was married to Joseph Veslany for 58 years until he passed away on January 8, 2010. She was the loving mother of Jack (Carol) Veslany, Vicki (Mark) Jones, Laura (Jack) Hirko and Joe (Lisa) Veslany. She was the loving grandmother of Zach, Nathan, John, Andrew, Lauren, Nick, Josh and Rachel. Mildred was a registered nurse with her degree from the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She loved family, friends and taking care of people. She will be sadly missed. SPISAK ERNEST D. “ERNIE” Of Chalfant, age 71, suddenly on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Bodner) Spisak for 43 years; loving father of Danielle Spisak of CO; also survived by Gevaudan Family cousins. Ernie was a 1963 graduate of North Braddock Scott High School and received his B.S. in Early Childhood Education from California University of PA. He later earned his Master's in Childhood Development from the University of Pittsburgh and worked in several early childhood learning programs throughout his career. But Ernie's passion was writing. Being a local historian and fascinated by the Civil War, perhaps he could be considered the David McCullough of the Braddock/North Braddock region. He wrote weekly columns in the Valley Mirror and although primarily focusing on historical events and people, he never was hesitant to give opinions on current topics. Ernie's crown jewel of all his writing efforts is the book which he extensively researched, authored, and had published, Pittsburgh's Forgotten Civil War Regiment. His book is the first history of the 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and the men who served with distinction. Ernie also had been published in the prestigious Gettysburg Magazine. STETZER HERMAN FRANCIS IV Age 78, of Seaford, died on Saturday, April 15, 2017, peacefully at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born on September 5, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Herman and Helen Stetzer. Herman's passions were traveling, fishing, cooking and gardening. He loved to pick on his sons and family. He especially enjoyed watching his granddaughter, Lindsay, grow up and play sports. Herman loved life to the fullest and loved his cats. Herman worked in Heavy Construction Equipment sales for many years. Herman was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Antietam, CVA-36. Herman is survived by his loving wife, 54 years, Barbara Ann Dixon Stetzer; two sons, Kurt Stetzer and his wife, Sue, Kraig Stetzer and his wife, Cheryl; granddaughter, Lindsay Stetzer; step- granddaughter, Jennifer Nechiporenko; his beloved cat, Misty; sister-in-laws, Pat Stetzer and Elizabeth Dixon; brother-in-law, Bob Woods. In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by brother, Ronald Stetzer; sister, Gerri Woods; father-in-law, Henry Dixon; mother-in-law, Mary Dixon; brother-in-law, Henry J. Dixon. Dick was the owner of Rhodes Insurance Agency, Pittsburgh with a career spanning 35+ years with Nationwide Insurance. Dick was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and treasured attending games with his wife and family or watching from the comfort of his favorite chair. Beyond his family, his hobbies included travel, snow skiing, and watching his grandchildren play hockey, softball, lacrosse, and swim. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Rhodes.
