SMITH CHARLES E. Age 57, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, died March 17, 2016, in Mt. Lebanon. Born August 24, 1958, in McKeesport, son of the late Edward Giles Smith and LaVerne Jones Smith. Was a self-employed painter and known by family and friends as "Bookworm." Surviving are siblings, Valarie Smith, Robert Smith and Kenneth Smith all of Clairton, Bonnie Smith and Tony Smith both of Charlotte, NC, Michael Smith and Vernon Smith both of Pittsburgh; aunt with whom he resided, Janet Brisco; and other relatives. CIACCIA ELSIE M. (ARMSTRONG) Age 90, formerly of Penn Hills, died peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2016, in West Penn Hospice, Pittsburgh, with her devoted family by her side. She was born March 4, 1926, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Wahler) Armstrong. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and a stepson. Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great- grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Marino) Smathers; son, Gary P. Marino; and daughter, Deborah (Gilkey) Proviano; brother, Charles (Alice) Armstrong; stepchildren, Roberta (Gilkey) Kelly and Gary Leon Gilkey; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Elsie will be especially missed by her seven grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177. Funeral services for Elsie will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Bingman of New Beginnings Baptist Church, Forbes Road, officiating. ALLMAN CARA M. Cara, 66, of Beaver Falls, passed away with her husband by her side on Friday, March 18, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospice of Heritage Valley, Beaver. She was born October 2, 1949, in Marion, Ohio, a daughter of the late Dick Williams and Jackie Turner Sharp, and her late stepfather, Charles Sharp. After years of self employment in Fort Wayne, IN she recently retired and moved to Pittsburgh. Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Robert Allman; sisters, Deana (John) Slater and Janelle Clark, both of FL. She is also survived by a number of nieces of nephews. SHARP ARLIE “FAY” Age 92, of Waynesburg, formerly of Bridgeville, on March 17, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Mabel R. Sharp; loving father of Jeff (Kathi) Sharp and Ken (Janet) Sharp; uncle of Linda Hoppe and Kathy McCarthy; also 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Harry (Doris) Sharp; and a granddaughter, Amy Holeva. Mr. Sharp was a lifetime member and former chief of the Bridgeville V.F.D. He served as Past Master of St. John's Lodge No. 221, F&AM and was a 70 year member of Local 66, International Union of Operating Engineers. He also served as treasurer for Fordyce United Methodist Church and of the Harry Enstrom Branch of the Izaak Walton League of America. McFARLAND WILLIAM “BILL” C. William, 94, of Oakdale, North Fayette Twp., died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in Broadmore Senior Living, Bridgeville. He was born July 17,1921, in Oakdale, a son of the late Archie and Mildred Cooper McFarland. Mr. McFarland was an artist and teacher at West Allegheny and Moon Twp. High Schools and was a member of Montours Presbyterian Church and the West Hills Art League. He enjoyed traveling in Europe, Mexico, Greece, South America and the Caribbean where he displayed his artwork. He wrote and published poetry and was a collector of art. Surviving are his nephews, Timothy (Lori) MacFarland of Oakdale, N. Fayette and Jerry (Sue) MacFarland of Moon Township; special cousin, Marilyn Cameron of Carnegie; and a number of great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Archie “Buck” MacFarland. ROZANSKI MARY L. (HOMA) Formerly of Monroeville, died on March 16, 2016, five months before her 100th birthday. She died at her oldest son Larry's home in Franklin Park, PA, where she had resided for the past nine years after the death of her husband, Stanley, of 62 years. Mary was born on August 4, 1916, in Bredinville, Butler Twp., and was the daughter of John and Catherine (Mucha) Homa. She and Stanley moved to Monroeville, PA in 1954 and were one of the original parishioners of St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons, Lawrence (Donna J.) of Franklin Park and Thomas (Donna M.) of Irwin. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Burka of Lyndora, PA; three grandchildren, Ryan, Justin and Matthew (Nicole); three great-grandchildren, Austin, Logan and Paige; as well as many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Stanley; brothers, John and George; and sisters, Ann, Ruth, and Katherine and their spouses. Mary was devoted to her family. One of her greatest joys in life was babysitting for her grandson Ryan. She loved her flower garden especially her zinnias which were grown from seeds harvested yearly from her mother's garden to hers. She loved cutting grass in their large yard all the while singing Ukrainian folk songs. She enjoyed attending various harness racing tracks in PA and Ohio, with her husband, Stanley and sister, Ann and her husband, John Krenitsky, to watch her sister's horses run in the races. She especially loved standing in the winner's circle to get her picture taken with her sister's winning horse! Mary's other passion was baking homemade Paska bread, pierogies and other ethnic foods for the holidays. She will be dearly missed and always remembered by her family and all that had the good fortune to meet and care for her these last years of her life. RIZZA RICHARD BERNARD Age 66, formerly of Uptown, passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven, Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the home of his loving sister and brother-in-law, Geri (Geraldine) and James Nobile, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 3, 1949, to Ann and the late James Rizza, "Ricky" was a 1968 graduate of Connelley Vocational-Technical High School where he became a Licensed Journeyman Plumber and ultimately a Licensed Master Plumber. It was a skilled trade he practiced for 50 years with great competence, dedication and a deep sense of fairness to his many clients who became his friends in the process. He was the Principal of R. Rizza Plumbing. In addition to his love for his chosen trade and his clients, Ricky had an equal passion for golf, his daily hikes and God. He approached his battle with cancer in the same way he led his life in general, with quiet ferocity, determination and heartfelt thanks for those involved with his journey. The Rizza family would like to extend a special thanks to those care providers at the CancerCenters at Magee-Womens Hosptial and Mercy Hospital for their compassion and concern. In addition to his mother, Ann, Ricky is survived by his loving siblings, Joanne (Chris Williams), James, Geraldine (James Nobile), Rosemary Tomassi, Bernard (Anna), Paul (Susan) and Robert; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. WRIGHT BROOKS Age 73, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a policeman for 30 years, retiring as superintendent of police of Edgewood Borough, Edgewood, Pennsylvania. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he retired to Andover, Ohio in 2002 and then to Sun City Center, Florida in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; son, Christopher and daughter-in-law, Kimberly; daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Larry; and three grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel and Zachery. He is also survived by two sisters, Claudia of New York and JoAnn of Michigan; and one brother, James of Michigan. SMITH ELIZABETH M. “BETH” She was a resident of Southwestern Health Center, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, to return to the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She was born in New York on February 5, 1956, the daughter of the late Robert E. and Elizabeth M. (Eifler) Smith. Beth was preceded in death by her sister, Joan M. Patterson. She is survived by her sister, Diane M. Fleet; brothers-in-law, Thomas S. Fleet and David K. Patterson; nephew and nieces, Robert K. (Mel) Patterson, Renee M. (Jeff) McGrath, and Kristen R. Fleet; great-niece and nephews, Kaylee, Lucca, and Giulio; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Beth was a very spiritual individual with a deep religious life. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed music, especially that of Michael Jackson, and loved visits, cards, and phone calls from her family and friends.
