SCHECHTER SIMPSON I. Age 97, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away on July 21. Dr. Schechter was the son of the late Samuel and Jean Schechter; and brother of the late Edna Rissman and Ruthie Golden. Dr. Schechter was married for 53 years to his high school sweetheart, the late Estelle Serbin Schechter. Dr. Schechter is survived by his daughter, Susan Lipsitz; granddaughter, Samantha Lipsitz Stanlaske; her husband, Robert; and great-grandsons, Noah, Caden and Jaxson Stanlaske; other family in Florida; daughter, Jaye Klein (Robert); granddaughter, Jessica Berkowitz (Ilan) and daughter. Dr. Schechter was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Pitt Dental School and practiced in East Liberty and Mt. Lebanon for 40 years. Dr. Schechter was a retired Navy Commander and served four years in the South Pacific during WWII and was also a past M.E. High Priest of the Masons, East Hills Chapter. Dr. Schechter will be remembered as a proud son, loving husband, caring father and best Papa to all his grandchildren. Graveside Services and Interment will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Beth Shalom Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. SOSSO THOMAS D., JR. BIG DADDY Thomas, affectionately known to friends and family as Big Daddy died suddenly on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at UPMC Shadyside. Big Daddy was born August 1, 1944 to the late Thomas David and Helen Regina (Yovanich) Sosso. A longtime Pittsburgh resident, Big Daddy graduated from Central Catholic High School, attended Duquesne University and finished at Youngstown State with a degree in Psychology. He worked for the Union Railroad until retirement and lived in Bloomfield, where he was a tenant of his longtime friend, Mr. Fred Voskuhl. He enjoyed the company of many friends and family and was a central character at many functions and events. He loved the sun and had a forever tan and stood out in a crowd with his warm smile, salt and pepper hair and of course, warm personality. Brother of Daniel, Robert, James, Michael, Mary Louise, Denise Figlio, and Celeste Laderosa; uncle to Mark, Scott, Anthony Figlio, Michele Shaffer, Lauren Paulik, Anna, Maria; and uncle and godfather to Melissa Sosso Dunkor; also survived by great- nieces and nephews. An unforgettable character who touched many lives, he has left an indelible mark on many people who will continue to love and miss him and be blessed that Big Daddy passed this way. HERRON EMILIE C. Emilie passed away on her 97th birthday, July 13, 2013. She was born in Lexington, North Carolina but became a native of Pittsburgh, PA, where she was a long time member of Rodman Street Baptist Church. Emilie and her husband Waddell moved to Rialto, CA in 1980. She was an active member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and a volunteer at the 5th Street Senior Citizen's Center until her death. Emilie was known for her beautiful smile. She leaves to cherish her memory her six children, Grace Johnson of Rialto, Meredith Mitchell of San Bernardino, Madeline Rabon of Beaumont, Waddene Hall (Bobby) of Rialto, Waddell Herron (Barbara) of Los Angeles, Stephanie Herron of South Pasadena; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
