DURLING MARY AUMAN 89, a resident of Asbury Heights in Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2013 after enduring the debilitating effects of dementia. She was born in Kersey, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late George and Anna Leismeister Auman. Mary was a long time resident of Pittsburgh and was a graduate of the St. Francis Nursing School, the United States Cadet Nursing Corps. Mary retired from the former St. Francis Hospital where she was the Nursing Administrator and worked for 50 years at St. Francis and remains a St. Francis Alumnus. On October 27, 1958 in the St. Joseph's Church in the Bloomfield community of Pittsburgh, she married Richard J. Durling. Richard was a World War Two D-Day veteran as chief editor for the US Army News Corp in London, Berlin, and points between. Richard worked for the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph, NY Herald Tribune, NY Times, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Richard aka 'Dick' preceded her in death on February 17, 1970; besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters Bernadette Card, Celeste Bures, Salome Schreiber, Cecelia Ciccotello, Eva Grotzinger, Imelda Frey; and four brothers Paul Auman, Eugene Auman, Francis Auman and Jerome Auman; Mary is survived by her only beloved son Jim Durling and his wife Demetra Moutis of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, a sister Martha Baumer of Altoona, along with several nieces and nephews. Mary was a member of the St. Catherine of Sienna Church in the Beechview section of Pittsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Catherine of Sienna Church on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at 10 a.m., with the Reverend Pastor James Bachner officiating. Graveside service in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Kersey, Elk County, Pennsylvania is on Thursday, July 25, 2013. SURZYN FRANK A. Age 93, father of Cherie Bartel of Monroeville and grandfather of Jarret Silagyi and Nick Bartel, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana on Tuesday, July 16. Frank lived in Monroeville for 20 years before retiring to Indianapolis. Frank was a member of the American Legion, The Lions Club, and the VFW. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a tank commander under General George S. Patton in the 2nd Armored Division. Frank received combat medals for his service in the Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Occupation of Berlin. Frank was originally from Westville, IL and lived from 1936 to 1987 in Genoa City, WI. Frank was the town Barber and known as a true Home Town Boy, an American Patriot and a true friend to all. Born in Bethel Park, she was a daughter of Sandra Shaffer Comella of Bethel Park and Francis Comella of Bloomington, IL. A 1987 graduate of Bethel Park High School, she graduated from the University of Kentucky and the Midway College of Nursing. She was a registered nurse who previously had worked as a neonatal technician for Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. Christine was a lifelong equestrian and accomplished Eventer, having achieved the 2010 MSEDA Mare of the year on her cherished Rivella. In addition, she devoted much of her life to finding homes for unwanted animals. She was an avid UK fan, former Board member and officer of the MSEDA and former Chair of the U. S. Eventing Association, Area VIII. She had attended the Pisgah Presbyterian Church. JUSTICE PAULINE NORAH (SMITH) 86, of Murrysville, died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at her home. She was born in London, England. Daughter of the late Thomas Albert Smith and Norah Hutchinson Simpson Smith. Pauline was a loving, kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who was adored and cherished by all who knew her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was everyone's biggest fan and supporter. She married Jimmy, her childhood sweetheart, at the age of seventeen during World War II in London, England where she lived throughout The Blitz while her husband served as a Navigator in Bomber Command with the Royal Air Force. They were married for 68 years and were devoted to each other their entire lives. Pauline, Jimmy and their three daughters (jewels as Pauline called them) moved to Murrysville from London in the 1960s. Pauline is survived and greatly missed by her husband, Jimmy; daughter, Autumn and son-in-law, Don; daughters, Dawn and Wendy; grandchildren, James (Lynzy) and Angela (Michael); great-grandchildren, Jesse and Mirabelle; a nephew, Patrick; a niece, Maryanne; relatives in England and a special friend, Diane.
