MARELEN MARTHA HINES Marelen Martha Hines, 80, entered into rest peacefully on September 1, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Wilbert and Clara Brown and wife to the late Louis Hines, Marelen was born September 12, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, where she grew up in the Hill District and attended Fifth Avenue High School. Marelen was employed for over 20 years at the Shadyside Manor Nursing Home in Pittsburgh as a CNA and advanced to a shift supervisor. She had special talent when it came to caring and respecting people from all backgrounds. Her ability to take care and serve family and friends was definitely her calling and a talent that her four children embraced in their careers. Marelen spent her last 10 years of retirement in Fairburn, Georgia with her family and friends. Marelen was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Andre Hines; three brothers: Tabby, Arnold, and Leonard, and three sisters, Evelyn, Greela, and Clara. She leaves to cherish her precious memory two brothers, Harold Brown and Norman Brown, and one sister, Harriet Casey – all of Pittsburgh, PA; three children, Anthony (Jeanette) Hines of Pike Road, AL, Schelene (Larry) Hutchins of Fairburn, GA, Arnel (Kimberly) Hines of Bloomfield, CT; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Hines of Hartford, CT; one stepson, Curtis Hines of Pittsburgh, PA; a very special niece, Carmen Tyler of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandchildren, Alexis Hines, Alyssa Hines, Jeanette Hines, Jocelyn Hines, Andrea Hines, Caleb Hutchins, Cherie Hines, Javon Hines; four great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Byron, Aniko, and Dante; one goddaughter Debby McCombs, a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, who will all miss her dearly. JAMES D. KANE, SR. James D. Kane, Sr., age 89, of Zelienople, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020, while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community. Born September 11, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Thomas Kane and Marie Regan Kane. Jim graduated from Central Catholic High School. He was a member of Saint John Fisher Parish in Churchill. Always quick with a joke, Jim knew how to put a smile on people's faces. He was also a wonderful storyteller and loved cheering on the Steelers. Above all, Jim was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, James D. Kane, Jr., and his wife, Theresa; and his grandchildren, Connor, Devin and Regan Kane. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia M. Kane, who passed away on January 27, 2015; and his brothers, Robert, Gregory, Paul and Ronald Kane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Saint John Fisher Parish, 33 Lewin Ln., Pittsburgh, PA 15235. KATARINA ROSE NISSEL On September 8, 2020, the world lost a beautiful, fearless spirit. Katarina Rose Nissel was 16 years old when she reposed in the Lord. She was born in Sewickley, PA on July 27, 2004, to William D. Nissel and Stephanie A. Popoff. Katarina was a cheerleader for MCAA and enjoyed running track. She loved all animals. Kat had a loving heart and great sense of humor. She was very active in her church, St. Vladimir Orthodox Church. She was selfless and would be a friend to anyone. Kat will forever be remembered by her loving parents, Stephanie A. Popoff and William D. Nissel (Becky); beloved brother, Nick Nissel; cherished uncle, Dan “Petch” Popoff (Juline); dear aunts, Barbara Ruffner (Tim) and Judy Herbstritt (Matt); godmother, Marlene Gleinn; her caring nurses, Sami and Taylor Graham; cousins,;her adored cats, Ellie May, Nadia, and Lucy; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Daniel and Barbara Popoff; paternal grandparents, Jake and Valery Nissel; and uncle, Christian Popoff. LEONARD E. SOGOLOFF Leonard E. Sogoloff, age 89, of Palm Beach Shores, Florida, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, passed away suddenly August 23, 2020. In Florida. He was born February 19, 1931, in Lynn, Massachusetts, a son of the late Murray and Rebecca Ruth Sogoloff. A licensed Pharmacist, he was former CEO of Biodecision Laboratories for many years. Preceding him in death are his first wife, Frances Seidman Sogoloff and stepson, Andrew Sak. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Naomi Sogoloff; children, Marcy Salandra (Davey Douylliez), Lori Gorman (Brian Condon) and Bruce D. JAMES A. SUTCH, JR. "SUTCHMO" From complications of brain cancer, which he fought bravely until the end, James A. Sutch, Jr., of McCandless Twp., known to many as “Sutchmo”, passed on Saturday, September 5, 2020. Survived by Laurie Ryan and her sister, Pam (David) Ryan Lutz, his sister, Debbie (Steve) Wiseman; and nephew, Steven. Preceded in death by parents, James A. and Helen (Tridinic) Sutch, Sr. Sutchmo was a retired school teacher from North Hills School District. He loved all things Pittsburgh, especially the Penguins. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, throwing darts, and playing goalie. He was an animal lover and adored his dogs, Scorchy, Backhoe, Lucy, Princess Gracie, and Taco. Jim never met a person he would not talk to or help if they needed it. He was a kind and giving soul and will be missed by all of us! NORMAN JOSEPH WEISMANN Norman Joseph Weismann, age 85, of Hampton Township, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Helen (Shook) Weismann. He was a CPA and continued doing taxes for many clients. After retiring from Gurrentz International in 1996 he enjoyed traveling the world, playing golf and hosting wine tasting events. He enjoyed living at Concordia Highpointe, where he was very active and made many friends. Norman was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Lois for 63 years before her death last year. He was a very proud and loving father of Dennis (Diane) Weismann, Norma (Frank) Churilla, Don (Linda) Weismann, Maureen Schulteis, Janet (Bryan) Garnett and Patricia (James) Bridgeman. He was a special grandfather of Christopher, Richard, Erica, Aaron, Brandon, Joe, Bryanna, Michael and Jacob and was looking forward to becoming a great-grandfather. He was the loving brother of Theresa (late Paul) Jancay, Edward (Judy) Weismann, Cathy (late William) Weismann, the late Doris (Ernie) Urbatis and the late Richard Weismann. He is also survived by his brother in law, David (Sally) Potts and many nieces and nephews. Norman will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sharpsburg after a private family service due to Covid-19 restrictions. THOMAS R. TRAINOR On Monday, September 7, 2020, Tom Trainor of Scott Township, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous ten month battle with glioblastoma. Beloved son of the late Rosella and Regis Trainor; devoted husband of 56 years to Virginia (Colella) Trainor; loving father to Mark (Lisa) Trainor, Kristin (Earl) Hertzog, and Craig Trainor; kind brother to Daniel (Sandra) Trainor, Barbara Hagerty, and the late David Trainor; cherished grandfather/Baba to Noah, Dylan and Sydney Trainor, John and Evelyn Hertzog and Lauren Trainor; also survived by loving sisters-in law, Marilyn (Roger) Nemrava, Barbara (Robert) Williams, and Donna (late Keithley) Mulvihill; and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a graduate of Duquesne University, M.S. Ed., and taught for over thirty-five years in the Bethel Park School District and at St. Anne's in Mt. Lebanon. He was a favorite teacher and coach (affectionately nicknamed Pie) to his many Bethel Park basketball and tennis athletes over the years. A proud USMC veteran and grandfather, Tom committed everyday in small, kind ways to making everyone's life just a little bit easier. HENRY "BOB" WEISS Henry "Bob" Weiss, of Whitehall, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at the age of 91. He was born in Bloomfield in 1929, and married the love of his life Margaret Bonura in 1950. They were devoted to their children, Daniel (Doreen) Weiss, Mary Rose (William) Rust and Robert (Sandra) Weiss. They were proud of their grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Weiss, Sarah (Joseph) Leuch, Kayleigh (Daniel) Lucas, Michael (Melissa), Robert (Coriie), Rachel and Daniel Rectenwald, Audrey (Jason) Patterson, William Rust, Amanda (Sonny) Kupniewski, Emily (Benjamin) Immel; and 17 great-grandchildren. Henry was a lifelong, proud Marine who always teared up when he heard the National Anthem. He served his country well during the Korean War. He was a hard-working Teamster and drove a truck for West Penn Laco for more than 30 years. Henry was quite an athlete and loved to play softball. He even hit the ball over the Bloomfield Bridge a few times, and he continued to play well into his 50's. He was also a true Pittsburgh sports fan. He even attended two Super Bowls! You could always find him watching a game or a cowboy movie. Even at 91, he loved to tend to his yard and garden. He loved cars and was a Ford man through and through. ARTHUR G. WENTZ, PHD Arthur, age 88, passed away September 5, while residing in Florida. Born in the Manchester area of Pittsburgh, Art served in the army during the Korean War. Prior to his military service, he spent years working in factories, roofing and heating industries. He was an expert bowler and loved playing baseball. Subsequent to his military discharge, he received his B.S. in Business from Duquesne University, MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in Finance from The Ohio State University. Dr. Wentz spent 35 years teaching, advising and counseling students. After a tenure of 18 years at Duquesne University as Professor of Finance, he moved to The University of Akron as Professor of Finance and Head of the Finance Department in the College of Business Administration. Art with his love of the outdoors, was an avid hunter, fisherman and vegetable gardener. After retiring, he and Mary Ann traveled the United States, especially enjoying the natural beauties out west. Art is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Ann (Serbiski); son, Joseph (Terry), daughter, Lisa (Richard Canestraro); three grandchildren, Jessica Zhikharev (Ivan), Bradley Wentz (Bethany) and Connor Harmon and eight great-grandchildren, Levi, Elijah, Naomi, Joseph, Juliana, Aleksander, Benjamin and David. Art is the son of the late Minnie and William Wentz, brother of two predeceased siblings, Dorothy Brown Rostron and William D. Brown. LUCILLE HANNAN It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lucille Hannan, age 96, of Bethel Park. She died Saturday, September 5, 2020. She was born in Fellsburg, Rostraver Township on August 21, 1924, the daughter of the late John H. and Flora O. Lawrence Naylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Daniel W. Hannan; her granddaughter, Alison Krien; as well as her two brothers, John L. and Harry E. Naylor and a sister, Eliza M. Naylor. She is survived by her three children, Dana E. (Michael) Krien, of North Huntingdon, Bonnie (Jim) Short of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and James P. (Janine) Hannan, of Bethel Park; her grandchildren, Melissa (Don) Black, Matthew Krien, Lauri (Jeremy) Rice, Kevin (Katie) Short, Brian (Carolyn) Short, Sean (Jeanne Marie) Hannan, and Emily Hannan; her great-grandchildren, Katie, Ella and Carsten Black, Avery and Ramona Hannan, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Bethel Park, PA. Lucille was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had such such a zest for life and was always busy with some new project or hobby. She opened Lucille's Beauty Salon in Clairton, so she could help her children through college. Later, at 60, she decided to become a painter and was an active member of the Golden Triangle Decorative Painters and the Bethel Artist Guild. She loved playing cards with her card club of over 50 years. She loved to sew and could make the best desserts. She was selfless and was always helping others. The family would like to thank her nurses and therapists from Advanced Personal Care Home Health and Bethel/St. Clair Meals on Wheels for their incredible care. AUDREY MORRIS Audrey Morris, 93, died at McMurray Hills Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on September 4, 2020. She was born October 20, 1926, Green Tree Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Audrey was employed by a custom drapery manufacturer for many years. Later, she also worked in the x-ray / films department at St. Francis General Hospital before retiring. Audrey was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended both Valley Presbyterian (Imperial), and First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale, Pennsylvania. Survivors include Gene R. Morris (Joan), also survived by many nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by Helen N. Phillips, her lifelong partner; parents, Albert (Bert) Burdette Morris, Sr., and Catherine (Katie) Morris (Drexler); her siblings, Lois Bernice Herrod, Albert Burdette (Buddy) Morris, Merle Morris, James (Jim) Morris, Gene R. Morris, Arlene Planiczka (Morris) and Georgene Morris. There will be no visitation hours observed. Interment will be private at Valley Cemetery, 237 Main Street, Imperial. ALBERT "PAPPY" ONDO Age 92, of West Mifflin, PA, formerly of Whitaker, residing with his daughter's family in Elizabethtown, KY, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at their home. Albert was the 14th and youngest child born to John and Elizabeth (Kovach) Ondo on December 28, 1927. He served in the US Navy as a Fighting Seabee in the Pacific Area of Operations during World War II. Albert was retired from the US Steel Corporation. Albert was gentle and kind. His goal was to be known as a “family man,” and he certainly lived up to that. Albert was an active member of Resurrection Church, where he was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He received a “shining light” award from the Diocese of Pittsburgh for his years of dedication and service in the Church. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary Rusnak, Elizabeth Kuros Morrison, Ann Kozej, Andrew Ondo, John Ondo, Helen Fialkovich, Paul Ondo, Michael Ondo, Margaret Veseleny, Frank Ondo, Dorothy Puzder, and two infant siblings; his wife of 65 years, Susan (Bugay) Ondo; an infant daughter, Victoria Ondo; four grandchildren, Josiah Brumbaugh, Albert Leighton Ondo, Cecilia Dvorjak, and Derek Dvorjak; and a great-grand-child, Ethan Adams. Albert is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Debora Brumbaugh (Walt), Gerard Ondo, Joseph Ondo, Mary Rose Dvorjak, Susan Adams, Charles Ondo, and Albert Ondo; his 25 grand-children; 20 great-grand-children; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Albert was especially proud of his family members who served in the US Military, his siblings, especially his brother, PFC Frank, KIA on D-Day +1, two sons, and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 12, 10 a.m, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish, Resurrection Church, 1 Majka Street, West Mifflin. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh. DOMINIC ANTHONY JASINSKI Unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, age 64, of East Liberty. Beloved husband of Tracy Brinn Jasinski; father of Sam Anthony Jasinski (Jennifer) and Stephanie Elyse Jasinski; grandfather of Isabela; brother of Dorothy Biddle (Robert); also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Being with family was everything to Dom. He dedicated his life to taking care of them, which he did up to his last day. Friends received at MCCABE BROS., INC.
