ARMELLA M. (SCHATZEL) ROMBACH Age 88, has gone to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. Armella was born on March 11, 1932, in Pittsburgh to the late Anthony and Anna Schatzel. She was the beloved wife of Clyde Rombach, Jr. for 65 years. Clyde and Armella lived in Glenshaw, PA. They enjoyed close family ties with their children, Clyde, III and Sharon Rombach, Linda Owens, and Mark and Michelle Rombach. They were blessed with seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Armella graduated from Annunciation High School and went to work at Bell Telephone Co. After a hiatus to raise her family, she worked at the communication department of Kaufman's Department Store until her retirement. Armella was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic whose adherence to her faith was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. May the Lord have mercy on her soul. THOMAS J. BOROWITZ, JR. Age 93, of Pittsburgh, passed away September 7, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Tomasic) Borowitz; loving father of Barbara Borowitz (Christopher) Troianos and Francine Borowitz (Denny) Chau. Proud grandfather of Rachael Troianos, Andrew (Allison) Troianos, Rebecca Troianos (Justin Morris), Matthew Chau, and Joshua Chau. Son of the late Mary (Novakowsk) and Thomas J. Borowitz, Sr. He was the loving brother of Robert (Ann) Borowitz and the late Elizabeth Zukiewicz, Irene Lovasik, Raymond Borowitz, and Vera Kurtock. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends and neighbors. Thomas was a proud WWII vet, stationed in Udine and Trieste, Italy. He was a member of the Brentwood VFW 1810 and a color guard for many years. In his free time, he loved to go dancing with his beloved wife every week. He met Barbara Bobbie at a dance at the Aragon Ballroom and it was love at first sight. They married nine months later and spent 64 and 1/2 years together. Growing up, he quit high school to help support his family and got his GED when he was 54. He became a security alarm troubleshooter and retired from Vector Security (originally Holmes Protection). For many years, he was an usher at St. Catherine of Siena Church and devoted to his faith. He enjoyed working in the yard, washing and babying his car, listening to music, and watching football. He loved just having a good meal, a beer, and being with family and friends. Thomas was the kindest and most loving person who lit up any room he was in. We were blessed to have him so long in our lives. Arrangements by BEINHAUER. Friends received Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at 2820 Washington Road, McMurray. Gigler, Jr. She was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Margaret T. (Kuntz) Reinehr. Maureen married Frank F. Gigler, Jr. in 1952 and established the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home in Lower Burrell in 1959. She would support her husband's leadership of the business for the next 57 years, in addition to raising their three children. Maureen was a faithful Catholic and a dedicated member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Maureen is survived by two sons and a daughter, Frank F. (Maureen) Gigler III of Lower Burrell, Joseph H. (Carol) Gigler of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Audrey (Charles) Swanderski of Palymra, PA; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. JAMES G. GREENO Born May 1, 1935, died September 8 from a prolonged illness, with his loving family surrounding him. An Eagle Scout and President of the All-University Congress at the University of Minnesota, Jim went on to a distinguished career as a cognitive scientist, philosopher of science and tenured faculty member at Indiana University, the University of Michigan, University of Pittsburgh, University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University. He was co-founder and Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for Research on Learning, and served in leadership capacities with the National Academy of Education, the Society of Experimental Psychologists, Federation of Behavioral, Psychological, and Cognitive Sciences, the Cognitive Science Society, Psychonomic Society, Society for Mathematical Psychology, American Psychological Association, American Educational Research Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and other professional associations. He was Executive Editor of Cognitive Science, and served in an editorial role for numerous other publications, including Journal of Learning Sciences, Journal of Mathematical Psychology, Journal of Experimental Psychology, Memory & Cognition and more. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship, J. McKeen Catrell Award, and E.L. Thorndike Award from the APA. His legacy lives on in his prodigious scholarly publications, and the work of his many colleagues and graduate students whose lives he touched. He was born March 27, 1952, in Braddock; a son of the late Steve and Martha Danko Gasper. Mr. Gasper was retired as a self-employed contractor. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post 712 in Pleasant Hills. REV. ROBERT R. COYNE Age 70, of Scott Township, died September 5, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He was born June 2, 1950, in Pittsburgh, to the late Robert J. and Marie T. (Beck) Coyne. Fr. Bob grew up and has lived in the Pittsburgh area all of his life. He graduated from St. Bede grade school in 1964, then from Central Catholic High School in 1968, then receiving his Bachelor's degree from Duquesne University in 1976 and attended St. Paul's Seminary being ordained a Diocesan Priest in 1976. He then went to the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH receiving his Master of Divinity in 1978. Fr. Bob was stationed at various parishes through out the Dioceses of Pittsburgh until he retired. He is remembered for his homily's or singing "Rainbow Connection" or telling a story at mass, which he always found a way to make it relatable to so many. Fr. Bob was a skier in his younger days, a movie lover, a proud Christmas tree collector, who loved football, being Irish and Mickey Mouse. He was a problem solver, someone his family and friends could go to for advice. He also loved pulling pranks and had the greatest laugh that followed. All of his family is at peace knowing he will be welcomed by his sister, Kathy, and his German Shepard pal, Jamee. Fr. Bob was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, (AOH), enjoyed traveling to Disney World, was very proud of his Irish heritage, though enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. Survivors include his brothers, John P. and Candace Coyne of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jeffrey A. Coyne and Donald J. Coyne both of Pittsburgh; his adopted sister, Eileen Cole of Pittsburgh; his nieces and nephews, David Kretz, Jonathan Kretz, Leslie Kretz, John W. Coyne, Jeff B. Coyne, Joshua Coyne, Kelsea Fernandez and Cailey Holt; and his God-daughter, Michelle Cole. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Kretz. At Fr. Bob's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date. Wonderful husband to Shirley Kaye (Funk) Chelli for 46 years; loving father of Mario Chelli (Christine) and the late Joseph Joey Chelli; doting grandfather to Joey, Kaysia, and Luca Chelli and Alivia and Damon Brown; beloved son of the late Mariano C.
