WHIPKEY ANDREW E . III Age 66, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away suddenly, at his home on December 23, 2018. Andy was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on February 26, 1952, to the late Lawrence L. and Josephine M. Whipkey, and a graduate of Wilkinsburg High. He married Margaret M. (Maggie Schreibeis) Whipkey in 1986 and they lived together in Pittsburgh, PA until retiring to Vero Beach, FL in 2009. Andy was a loving husband, father and a dedicated employee of the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh where he retired as the Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance/Motor Pool. Every once in a while, a very special individual impacts the world and the people whom he contacts. This person devotes himself to helping anyone who needs him. This was Andy Whipkey. His friends wanted to be near him because he made them feel happy and special. He was the best friend of many because each person was treated just that way, as a best friend. His smile, the sparkle in his eyes, the huge hug and his love for people was obvious to all. He was extremely bright but yet a simple man. All jobs were in his ability. He was a kind, gentle, sel?ess man who wanted for nothing more than what he had. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Josephine Whipkey; and his brother, Larry; and is survived by his wife, Maggie; son, Andy (Jena); sister, Diane (Bill) Moore; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Pat) Schreibeis and Paul (Ann) Schreibeis; sisters-in-law, Ellen Schreibeis and Ret (Frank) Vogrin; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and numerous friends. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019, with a Prayer Service at 3:45 p.m. at COX-GIFFORD- SEAWINDS FUNERAL HOME, in Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon, Thursday, January 3, 2019, at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. (Rosemary) of Florida; sister of the late Pat (August) Nucci, Ida (John) Saussol, Steve (Evelyn) Mastraieni, and Sam (Bertha) Mastriano; grandmother of Anna Maria Jordan; great- grandmother of Michael J., Jason M. and Cayla Jordan; great-great-grandmother of one in Florida; aunt to over 14; great-aunt to over 20; great- great-aunt to over 15. She worked as a messenger girl in her early years for Western Union. Member of the Red Hat Club. Also a member of the Catholic Christian Mothers. She loved going to church everyday, reading to her nephews, reading her Bible, going bowling and taking day trips with her husband, George. She was the last one of her generation, but the youngest of 15 children; but only ?ve of them stayed alive. Her marriage to George was for 53 years. MILKO ANNA "BABE" (BORUSHKO) Of East Pittsburgh, age 86, died on Saturday, December 29, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Andrew A. “Bunky” Milko; loving mother of Donna (Raymond) Savikas of NJ, Gary (Donna) Milko of Chalfant, Virginia (Dennis) Kisak of North Huntingdon, the late Andrew S. Milko and the late infant, Theresa Milko; treasured grandmother of Greg (Eileen) Savikas, Hailee (Ross, Ph.D.) Ryskamp and Matthew (Allie) Milko, Dean (Amanda) Kisak, Drew (Kelsey) Kisak and Devin Kisak. Babe is survived by four great-grandchildren, and she was expecting her ?fth great- grandchild who is due in July.   She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews.   Babe was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Mary Turek, John Turek, Sophie Bestic, Olga Smirga, Helen Turek, Tillie Palarino, George Borushko and Virginia Mance.   Babe was a retired Administrative Assistant with the Athletic Department of Woodland Hills School District. It was a job that she loved. Babe was a volunteer and Past-President of the former East Pittsburgh Little League Ladies Auxiliary. She was also renowned for her baking skills and her famous Haluski that she fed to numerous Woodland Hills coaches and football players. In her spare time Babe enjoyed crocheting and the challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Above all else, Babe was always thrilled to spend time with Bunky and her family, especially at Conneaut Lake.   Friends are welcome on New Years Day, Tuesday, from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. SMITH JOANNE (JOAN HARTNETT) Age 91, of Roswell, GA, passed away on December 26, 2018. She was born in New York City to Noreen and Arthur Hartnett, and was married to her husband, Fred Burton Smith, for 65 years. Joanne was raised in Pelham, New York and graduated from the College of New Rochelle, NY with a degree in art, and earned a Master's degree in education from Columbia University. She taught art in the New York City Public school system. Joanne and Fred lovingly raised four daughters and lived in Scarsdale, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before retiring to Long Boat Key, Florida. Joanne was an accomplished painter, winning numerous awards, and her paintings hang in many private collections. Joanne is survived by her husband, Fred; and her daughters, Leslie (Greg) Fraser of Ocean City, MD, Linda (David) Lewis of Richmond, VA, Kelly (Brent) Eastwood of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen Stansky of Wayland, MA; eight grandchildren; and her sister, Jeanne, of Branford, CT. Eleanor was born on September 28, 1929 in Pittsburgh to the late James and Irene Hewitt. She graduated from Winchester Thurston School and received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon, formerly Carnegie Institute of Technology. Eleanor enjoyed gardening at her home and ?ower arranging with her friends in the Trotwood Garden Club. She was a lifelong Episcopal Church member, always having a strong faith. Eleanor also had a passion for traveling, especially internationally with her husband. She will be remembered for her talent in drawing, radiant beauty, sense of style, caring nature and, most of all, love for her family and friends. Eleanor will be truly missed by all who knew her. MASSARO CAROL With her family at her bedside, Carol Massaro died peacefully at her home on December 27, 2018 after a two-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary ?brosis. Carol was born on July 18, 1939 in Pittsburgh's Sheridan neighborhood. She was the third child of Edward and Margaret (Michalena Spada) Coleman's seven children (Thomas, Frank, Carol, Edward, Nancy, Chester and Michael). She graduated from Langley High School and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Joseph A. Massaro, Jr., on October 1, 1960. In addition to her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Nancy; she is survived by her four children, Linda, Joe III (Alina), David (Luci), and Steven (Stephanie); her 15 grandchildren, Steven Studnicky (Alex Ellis), Alex Studnicky Gardella (Chris Gardella), So?a Massaro, Olivia Massaro, Carolyn Cost, Marta Massaro, Josie Cost, Isabella Massaro, Meredith Massaro, Charlie Massaro, Elizabeth Massaro, Lily Massaro, Joseph Massaro IV, Ava Massaro, and Charlotte Massaro; and her three great- grandchildren, Gus and Murphy Gardella and Luke Studnicky (born on Christmas Eve). Carol graduated from Chatham College in 1985 with a B.A. in Art History. Throughout her life, Carol remained actively involved in a variety of philanthropic organizations, including The 25 Club at the Magee-Women's Hospital of UPMC, Pittsburgh Opera, Little Sisters of the Poor, Roman Catholic Dioceses of Pittsburgh, Senator John Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh Ballet, Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, LaRoche College and University of Pittsburgh. Carol has also been the recipient of numerous civic and community recognitions, including ?rst female recipient of the 2017 Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund, Oakland Catholic High Schools 2016 Leading Ladies, Pittsburgh Opera's Maecenas Award, Ladies Hospital Aid Society's Patient Advocacy Award, Angel's Place Halo Award, Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania's Italian American Heritage Award, Honorary Distinction of Chief Horticulturist of Phipps Conservancy and Botanic Gardens, Carlow University's Women of Spirit Award, The 25 Club of Magee-Women's Hospital of UPMC Lillian Reese Award and the Elizabeth B. McCullough Award. But perhaps her most notable accomplishment was establishing the Joseph A. Massaro, Jr. Alzheimer's Research Fund at the Pittsburgh Foundation. Not willing to sit back and simply watch Alzheimer's Disease ravage her husband of 55 years without a ?ght, she founded the fund in 2013 with the goal of ?nding a cure for the disease in Pittsburgh. Born in McKeesport on January 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William Cecil and Catherine Pater Jamison and had seven siblings. She was married to the late Edwin Gray for 40 years; and predeceased by her son, Gary (Anne) Cornelius; and his father, her ?rst husband, Paul Cornelius. TIBBOTT THOMAS E . Passed away at home following a brief illness, on Thursday, December 27, 2018, age 76, of Franklin Park. Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane (Montgomery) Tibbott; and many loving family members; preceded in death by parents, Russell and Helen Tibbott; and brothers, Jack, Bob, and Bill. Following his graduation from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Tom served in the Peace Corps. in the Philippines from 1965-1967. He was a dedicated educator with a career that spanned 45 years, beginning as a 6th grade teacher at Peebles Elementary in the North Allegheny School District. Tom spent the next 41 years in the South Butler County Schools, where he was hired as the youngest principal and retired as the oldest principal, an accomplishment he was most proud of. Tom began each and every school day with the following message, “The choices you make today shape your world tomorrow.” Friends received Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Hwy., where funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 707 Grant St. #3700, Pgh., PA 15219; Good Samaritan Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Rd., Cabot, PA 16023; or to a charity of your choice.
