CHAMBERS DOUGLAS REED Age 75, of Oakmont, on December 27, 2018. Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Christine (Davis); their two sons, Ross (Ginny) and Reed (Jessica); Ross's daughters, Anna and Abby; and Reed's son, McCrae. Also surviving are Doug's daughter, Robyn (Mick) Nichols and her sons, Liam and Travis; his son, Timothy, and his children; three brothers, Geoffrey (Jeanne), Bruce (Carol), and Rodney; and many nieces and nephews and their children. Born in Johnstown on Oct. 20, 1943, to the late J. William and Helen (Newman) Chambers, Doug was a 1962 graduate of Johnstown High School and a 1966 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. An accomplished athlete throughout his life, Doug played Little League baseball starting at age 9 in Johnstown and then in the Junior League in his teens. At age 15, he was the youngest ever to play in the All American Baseball Association (AABA), and in 1965, his junior year at Pitt, he was co-captain of the team that was the school's ?rst to play in an NCAA baseball championship tournament. The following year, Doug signed on as catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, but an early season injury ended his baseball career. His sports passion then became golf, which he played for 37 years at Longue Vue Club, Verona, where he won the club's senior championship multiple times, and more importantly made many, many lifelong friends. Professionally, Doug started a career in 1966 in marketing with Pittsburgh National Bank and subsequently worked for Pittsburgh-area agencies, including his own with partner David Bear. In 2002, he joined the staff of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission as managing director. Doug considered the 14 years he spent at the Hero Fund, a Pittsburgh-based philanthropic foundation, as the pinnacle of his career. Doug's efforts with the Commission, which included orchestrating its centennial observance in 2004, were carried out with “competence and grace,” according to Commission Chair Mark Laskow, “but we remember him for so much more than that. He was a wonderful man who holds a special place in the institutional memory of the Hero Fund and in the hearts of all of us who knew him.” Doug and Chris spent time every summer of their married life at the family compound in the Adirondack mountains where in 2013, Doug and his brother- in-law, Gene, completed construction of a new home. SCHOLL MILDRED M. Age 96, our beloved aunt was taken peacefully by Our Lord into His welcoming arms on December 29, 2018. Mildred was born on March 10, 1922 in Pittsburgh. She was the only daughter of the late Joseph Leo Scholl and Margaret Breit. She grew up on Mt. Washington with her six brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Norbert, Albert, Richard, and Edward, all of whom predeceased her. After attending St. Martin School in the West End, Mildred spent her entire career working at Pittsburgh National Bank until she retired in 1987. She had a passion for gardening and yard work. Spring, Summer, and Fall, Aunt Mil was planting ?owers, digging up weeds, mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, raking leaves, and repairing walls. We marveled at her energy and relentless pursuit of keeping her homestead above the Ohio looking spanking new. A devout Catholic, Aunt Mil had a lively faith re?ected in daily prayer, donations to the poor and needy causes, and a fortitude that kept her cheerful in the face of life slipping away. Fittingly, her favorite saint was Saint Anthony, the patron saint of lost causes. Aunt Mil left many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and great-grandnephews and nieces with lifelong memories. Nieces and nephews: Sheila, Mary Jane, Susan, Donna, Richard, Margot, Mark, Nora, Janice, Robert, Joan, and James (deceased). Family and friends will be received at WM.
