He enjoyed retirement by pursuing his love of travel, learning computer skills, spending time with his family and friends, and serving as president of Dormont AARP. ZAGAR SR. ELIZABETH, OSF On August 25, 2018, at the age of 101, Sister Elizabeth Zagar completed her journey to God. Sister of Rose Marie Stucker, Catherine Zagar and the late John Zagar, Lawrence Zagar, Anthony Zagar, William Zagar, Mary Glass and Theresa Petures; daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Zagar. Sister was born and raised in Aliquippa and entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale on December 28, 1941. Sister began teaching elementary school in the Lawrenceville and Mt. Oliver neighborhoods. In 1946, Sister was missioned to Puerto Rico and taught high school for 10 years. In 1956, Sister returned to Pittsburgh to teach high school in the parishes of St. Augustine's in Lawrenceville and St. Joseph's in Mt. Oliver. Sister was again missioned to Puerto Rico from 1962-1965. She concluded her teaching career by teaching in secondary education at St. Wendelin's in Carrick and St. George's in Mt. Oliver. At the age of 57, Sister took on a second career by working in the business offices of Mt. Alvernia, St. Francis Plaza and St. Francis Medical Center. She retired from active ministry at the age of 85. Sister is best described by her sisters in community as being quiet, soft-spoken and gentle of heart. During her long life, Sister Elizabeth touched countless lives and reflected the generosity of God to many. She will be remembered for her clarity of vision and simplicity of heart. A passionate advocate of the University of Pittsburgh and its positive impact on the Oakland community, Dr. Kobosky had a special focus on the University's governmental relations and fundraising. His tireless effort on behalf of Pitt was rewarded with significant gifts to the University from Pittsburgh foundations and philanthropies. After retiring from the University, he served as a Senior Consultant for UPMC Health System from 1988 until 2003. Dr. Kobosky was instrumental in integrating the University of Pittsburgh, the School of Medicine, Presbyterian Hospital, Montefiore Hospital, and Shadyside Hospital as a University-related entity. SWOPE STEPHEN E. November 13, 1967 - August 25, 2018. Age 50, Pittsburgh, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died Saturday at UPMC Presbyterian Pittsburgh after complications from a heart attack. He was born in Altoona, son of the late G. Andrew and Ruth M. (Mazzei) Swope. He is survived by two brothers, Andrew J. Swope (Suzanne), John H. Swope (Carole); and a sister, Victoria Lawruk (Dan), all of Hollidaysburg, PA; three nieces, Maeve Lawruk, Greta Swope and Kathryn Swope; and a nephew, Marco Swope. Steve was a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Sr. High School and Juniata College, Huntingdon, where he was a standout football player at both schools. He was the owner/operator of Smartscape by Swope, a landscaping business in Pittsburgh. Steve was an avid Pittsburgh and Penn State sports fan. He was also a music lover and enjoyed playing the guitar. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. RUSSELL BARBARA M. On Saturday, August 25, 2018, age 85 of Pittsburgh's Northside, died unexpectedly from a brief illness. Beloved partner of Edwin M. Grentz; mother of Aaron Russell and partner Pam Bradley, Joanna (Albert) Caruso; also survived by her loving grandchildren, Caroline and Michael; sister of Joseph (Jean Herrity) Mazziotti, Richard (Laurie) Mazziotti, Robert Mazziotti, Joan Kimmel and Mary (Keith Cochran) Mazziotti; many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Born in Blacklick, PA, graduated from Wilkinsburg Highschool, then Indian University of Pennsylvania with a degree in teaching becoming one of their Distinguised Alumni. Barbara started her teaching career with the Penn Hills School District teaching 4th and 6th grades then moved onto being the nation's first reading teacher on television. Television led her to work with Pittsburgh legend the late Fred Roger's of Mister Roger's Neighborhood. She also had a long career with another famous Pittsburgher, Don Brockett working together with him for over 30 years in the comedy duo, Brockett and Barbara. Barbara had roles in many commercials, movies, TV appearences, and plays, but her favorite was that of being a grandmother. Most recently she combines her teaching and acting abilities to the organization Gateway to the Arts helping teachers teach children how to express themselves through drama. Her lifelong passions were teaching, traveling, activism, and acting as well as spending time on her back garden with a scotch in one hand and a good mystery in the other. LORENZI BARBARA ANN On Monday morning, August 27, 2018, age 81, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Upper St Clair, passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, the late Norbert and Barbara (Cloherty) Laur; she is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dario Lorenzi; and their seven children; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Mooney (Jim). Barb was a lifelong Pittsburgh resident and fond of her Irish heritage. A proud graduate of Dormont HS. She married Dario and spent most of her adult life residing in Mount Washington and Upper St. Clair. Barb's life was spent as a loving caretaker, raising her children and grandchildren and helping others with their kids. She was also a fabulous cook who fed family, relatives, friends, and neighbors. Everyone was welcome at Barb's table and she made sure no one was hungry. Barb was so proud of her family, and she will be deeply missed by her children, David Lorenzi, Donna Baccari (Rick), Doreen Sorensen (Niles), Daria Lorenzi, Doris Kauffelt (Mike), Barbie Lorenzi and Mary Beth Zelt (Roger); her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren will also miss her laughter and love.
