LIPCHAK GEORGE A. Of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Beloved son of the late George and Margaret (Belo) Lipchak. He is survived by his daughter, Elana Lipchak, of Hoboken, NJ; and a brother, David Lipchak, of Squirrel Hill. Age 67, George grew up in Emsworth, Pennsylvania and attended Carnegie Mellon University, Denison University in Granville, Ohio, the University of Hawaii, and was a North Catholic High School graduate. George leaves family, friends, collaborators, and colleagues in the places he lived throughout his life, including Pittsburgh, New York City, Barcelona, and Roda de Bara, Spain. He became an international artist, sculptor, and jewelry maker whose work was exhibited in the U.S. and Europe. For forty years he traveled extensively, especially to Catalonia, Spain, where residents, fellow artists, and the light and colors of the country highly influenced him. Always a unique character whose thoughts, words, and ideas never stopped, he now rests among many of his fellow artists and friends who have gone before him. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2630 West Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15216, (412-531- 4000). BOYLE THERESA LETITIA Age 92, formerly of the DC area, Pittsburgh, PA and most recently Wildwood Crest, NJ, Theresa Letitia Boyle passed away peacefully surrounded by family August 29, 2017. She was born May 1, 1925, in Manoa, PA the daughter of James Joseph and Margaret Sweeney. Theresa graduated from Notre Dame High School, Moylan, PA, Class of 1942. Following graduation, she worked for Bell Telephone leaving the work force to marry the love of her life, Charles Walter Boyle and provide a warm and loving home to their nine children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles; sisters, Marie, Marguerite, and Francis; daughter, Peggy, son, Danny; and two great-granddaughters. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Ken) Roden, Monica (Rich) Bassham, Tracey (Peter) DeLonga, Regina (Nick) Peranteau, Megan (Gary) Doyle, and sons Tim (Judi) and Kevin (Carolyn); daughter-in-law, Margaret Rowan Boyle; 39 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren; her best friend, favorite shopping partner, and sister, Joan McPeak; as well as many nieces and nephews. Theresa was a loving wife, a cheerful companion, a supportive mother, and a grandmother who was practically perfect in every way. A regular attendee of daily Mass and an avid petitioner of the Blessed Mother, Theresa anonymously ensured success, joy, and comfort for the hundreds of people for whom she prayed daily. She loved to organize, dance, and drive her blue convertible, where she listened to Frank Sinatra. She was an expert listener, trustworthy confidante, and connoisseur of stilettos, shopping malls, and patterned socks. Her cheerful attitude, her impeccable fashion sense, and her propensity to eat candy [for three meals a day] endeared her to everyone she met, ages one to ninety one. Touching lives across generations, ideologies, and state boundaries, Theresa left everyone she encountered a little happier and lighter of heart. Visitation will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902, on September 7, 2017, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. McKINNEY WILLIAM J. “BILL” On Saturday, September 2, 2017, of Cecil Twp., formerly of Upper St. Clair passed away. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. McKinney and Catherine L. McCrea. He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Smith); and sons, Michael G. (Jennifer) McKinney and David W. McKinney; grandfather of Aaron and Ava McKinney. Bill attended Carnegie Tech (Mellon) University and the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Master's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Bill began his career with the United States Postal Service in design and construction and was the manager for the Eastern Region of the United States. He later became the manager of Environmental Health and Safety Compliance for the Eastern Region. He was a Professional Member of numerous Environmental societies and organizations. After retirement, Bill worked as a contractor as the USPS Office of Inspector General where he was a Certified Environmental Auditor and Facility Specialist. He was a professional member of the American Society of Engineers and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. He began his Postal Career in Pittsburgh, then was transferred to Philadelphia and then to Louisville, KY and returned to Pittsburgh where he retired. All services will be private. STEPHENSON THOMAS R., Sr. Age 71, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Sat., Sep. 2, 2017, in Jefferson Hospital. Born July 26, 1946, in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Thomas H. Stephenson, Jr. and Elizabeth J. (Blaha) Stephenson. A US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, Tom retired as an Assistant Vice President for Irwin Bank. He was the financial secretary for P.N.A. Lodge #352 of McKeesport and was active with both Mt. Vernon Youth Baseball and the McKeesport Baseball Association. Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Morgan) Stephenson; his children, Thomas R. (Regina) Stephenson, Jr., Ashlee M. (Robert) Boyle, and Craig M. Stephenson; his four grandchildren, Ryley T. Stephenson, Ryan M. Boyle, Addison P. SHARKEY JAMES J. Age 62, of Springdale, formerly Penn Hills, died on September 1, 2017, in the loving care of his family. In particular, Jim was cared for in his final illness by his sister, Laurie and her family. He was predeceased by parents, George Sharkey and Winnie (Carr) Sharkey. He was the cherished brother of George E. (Karen) Sharkey, Linda (Tony) Aleprete, Laurie (Walt) Hulings, and Judy (Mark) Fries. He will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Jim possessed a great, good heart, a unique spirituality, and extraordinary intelligence. An honors student, he attended Penn State, left to be the 'light man' in a rock n' roll band, and was, over the years, an AT&T salesperson, a steelworker at Edgewater Steel, a warehouseman at Stitches, and more recently, an associate at Puff Tobacco Distributors. Pre-Google, he was our 'go to' guy for sports statistics, politics, history, culture, and 'all things Beatles and the Boss.' Theirs will be the only music played at a future memorial celebration of Jimmy's life. RAYVID LYNN H. Born April, 10, 1937, in Saskatoon, Canada. Beloved wife of Jay Rayvid; and mother of Rachel (Rayvid) Paul and Lisa McCracken; grandmother of Erica and Joseph Paul and Jennifer and Michael McCracken. Lynn worked all her life to bring beauty, humor, justice, and order to her family and her community. She was a political activist, that helped to bring school breakfasts to hungry children and dance and theatre to her community. Lynn was talented designer, a champion flower arranger, and a loving wife and mother. Some of the Boards on which she served as an Officer or President were the Women's Association of the American Cancer Society, Women in Urban Crisis, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Guild, The Canadian Club, the Squirrel Hill Garden Club, The Pittsburgh Symphony Women's Association, National Council of Jewish Women, the founding group of the Pittsburgh Public theatre, and the Pittsburgh Ballet. She had a long varied successful business career, including Eastern Airlines, Film Model for Miami Models Agency, Founding Membership Director for The Rivers Club (Pittsburgh), Real Estate Agent, Prudential Realty and Howard Hanna. PILIPOVICH NICK “SHOOSH” Age 85, South Park, formerly of Duquesne, died Sept. 2, 2017. He is the son of the late Bozo and Anna (Buchko) Pilipovich. He is survived by his beloved wife, Milica "Mitzie" (Baskot); sons, Nick Pilipovich of South Park and David (Kelly) Pilipovich of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Pilipovich; brother, George (the late Sally) Pilipovich and his wife, Joanne; brother-in-law, Walter "Vlade" and his wife, Diane "DeeDee" Baskot; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brother, Michael "Flip" Pilipovich; brother-in-law, Dushan "Duddy" Baskot and his wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Zora Nedzbala and her husband, Gabe, Ann “Anka” Kresovich and her husband, Steve, Myra Farrell; and niece, Lisa Farrell. Nick graduated from C.B. Weaver Real Estate School and was the owner/operator of Huckster's Bar and Restaurant. Nick was a member of St. Sava's Serbian Orthodox Church, where he served as a tutor (usher), Masonic Lodge 765, Syrian Shriner's Tall Cedars Caravan 38, SNF Federation Lodge 76, Pres. of the Duquesne-Duquesne Annex Tavern Assoc. for 40 years, Pres. of Duquesne School Authority for the construction of JFK Elementary School; Vice Pres. of Duquesne School Board; Pres. of Hucksters Booster Travel Club; booked all the events for the Duquesne Serbian Club in the 1950's. He loved all Pittsburgh sports and playing cards with his friends, traveling and attending Serbian basketball tournaments. He lived for his sons, including watching Air Force Academy Basketball games. He often told his sons "Don't ever forget where you came from". Nick was a very generous man and loved to help everyone. He will be sadly missed by all, especially his St. Sava's family. McFARLANE EDWARD MEANS Born June 19, 1940, passed away at his home in Hertford, North Carolina August 26, 2017. Ed was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents, Charles Carroll McFarlane and Lida Doris Means McFarlane. He graduated Bellevue High School and Slippery Rock University. He is a member of the Slippery Rock University Athletic Hall of Fame and still holds numerous basketball records there. He was named an NAIA All-American during his career at Slippery Rock. He received his M.Ed from the University of Pittsburgh and his Ed.D. from West Virginia University. He spent the majority of his professional life working as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He taught and coached at Marion Center High School (PA), Slippery Rock University (PA), Cuyahoga Community College (OH), and Davis & Elkins College (WV). He also is a member of the Davis & Elkins College Athletic Hall of Fame. Before retiring in 2000, he served for eight years as Headmaster at Blue Ridge School, St. George, Virginia. After retiring, he worked as Senior Counsel for Capital Development Services (NC), as an independent consultant in fund-raising for not-for-profit organizations, and as Interim Headmaster at Lawrence Academy (NC). He was a dedicated educator, a devoted husband and father, and a loving grandfather. He will be remembered for his genuine love of people, his quick wit, and his eagerness to tell a story. He loved watching young people learn, grow, and succeed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Johnston McFarlane; daughter, Amy (Les) McFarlane Jones, son, Todd (Anna) Edward McFarlane; grandsons, Garrett Leslie Jones and Trent Edward Jones; granddaughters, Tatum Rose McFarlane and Alexa Catherine McFarlane; sister, Carole McFarlane Torso; and nephew, Gary Charles Torso. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Blue Ridge School, St. George, Virginia on September 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Blue Ridge School, St. George, Virginia.
