BORRERO MARÍA CRISTINA (ARAGÓN) 10/12/1943 - 8/6/2017, age 73, of Fox Chapel, beloved wife of Doctor Guillermo Borrero for over half a century; loving and proud mother to Antonio José, Juan Pablo (Nathalie), and Doctor Camilo (Doctor Sonya); adoring "Nana" to Elisa, Daniela, Sebastian, Isabella, Sofia, Sahana, and Sajaan Borrero. The proud daughter of the late Victor Aragón Pardo and the late Lilian Bateman Aragón; caring sister of the late Juan Alberto Aragón (Sonia), the late Silvia Vernaza (Victor), Beatriz Duque (Gabriel), and Elsa Aragón. Remembered by many nieces and nephews and grieving friends around the world including locally her housekeeper and caregiver, Ana Andrews, whose devotion went beyond measure. She was the recipient and the giver of true love since her teen years to her golden years, for she and her husband, Guillermo, lived a true love story in a beautiful marriage. If one had the choice of where to spend the last hours of one's life, Maria Cristina's heartfelt desire was granted. She passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 6, 2017, reaching for the stars at her vacation home, a vibrant modern blue brick and glass structure in the midst of nature, surrounded by green mountains and adorned by wild, multicolored flowers and thick foliage at "La Calera" outside of Bogota in her native Colombia. She was blessed with physical beauty and style, incomparable talents, a gifted, consummate artist and painter. Her creativity was unending, the product of a multifaceted family of artists, actors, and writers. Her art transmitted a superb imagination, the effect of realism in her paintings, and the depth and strength in her portraits with life's vivid expressions. Her relationship with color was astonishing. She had an eye for transforming a wall or canvas with stroke techniques which defined any room or space. A voracious and passionate reader, Maria Cristina devoured works of art, history, and literature until the dawn hours of the morning. She appreciated with her uncanny curiosity and desire of learning the intriguing mystery of cinema, while music brought her spirits to escalate new heights. In later years, she designed, elaborated, and embroidered unique wall hangings, mixing colored threads into the creation of picturesque images. Her home was filled with light, live plants, gorgeous flowers, and an intricate mixture of antique, modern, and rustic pieces, combined with relentless passion. A great hostess, she entertained gracefully her family and close friends throughout the years. Her recent departure left so many of her dreams unfulfilled and countless traveling plans unaccomplished. But if one had one singular aspect of her striking personality as a comforting reminder, it will be her joyous laughter - uninhibited, spontaneous, open like a harmonious melody to assist us to hold her near until God reunites us all in peace and love together again. Her Funeral Mass and interment was held on August 10, 2017, in Bogota, Colombia. A memorial for family and close friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hillman Cancer Center, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
