SLAYBAUGH McKEE ELMER Age 95, of Harrisburg, died peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017. Elmer married the love of his life, Elizabeth (nee Richards, deceased 2001) in 1946. He is survived by their four loving sons and their families: James and Carole McKee, Berlin, MD, Robert and Rose McKee, Parkton, MD, Richard McKee, Virginia Beach, VA, and Peter McKee and Ro Alcaraz, Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Elmer was born in Gettysburg, PA on August 29, 1921. He graduated from and was president of the John Harris High School Class of 1939; Gettysburg College, 1944 (awarded BS degree while overseas in the Army); Johns Hopkins PhD in physical chemistry, 1952; and the Harvard Business School, 1968. He served in the 254th Infantry, 63rd Division of the US Army, in France and Germany in WWII, from 1943-1946. He achieved rank of Captain, was Platoon Leader, Company Commander and a Battalion S-3 Operations Officer. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for gallantry under fire. Elmer worked for Mine Safety Appliances of Pittsburgh, PA in Baltimore, Maryland (Catalyst Research Corporation), 1955-1970; in Glasgow, Scotland, 1971-1975; and in Pittsburgh, from 1976 until retiring in 1987. He enjoyed gardening, watching and playing sports, traveling, playing cards - especially bridge, and enjoying time with family and friends. A private service for immediate family will be held. FRENCH PETER MICHAEL Formerly of Didcot, England, Oakmont, Pennsylvania, and Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on January 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his sons, Simon, Chris, and Tim; and his grandchildren, Stephen, Danielle, Hannah, Audrey, Cole, Philip, Felicia, and Jennifer. Mike is also survived by his two great- grandchildren, Winnrey and Brilani. Mike was born on July 22, 1935, in Yorkshire, England. After receiving his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Metallurgy from Leeds University, Mike spent his early career working in Harwell, England for the UK Atomic Energy Authority. He married Joan Whitworth on August 23, 1959. They moved to Didcot for his work and all three sons were born while they were living there. In 1967, he was recruited by Westinghouse and brought his family to the United States. They travelled to America on the Queen Elisabeth II and came in through New York City. They settled in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, where the family would live for the next 20 years. Mike worked for Westinghouse for the rest of his career, starting in the Advanced Reactors division in Cheswick, Pennsylvania and eventually working his way into management including the position of Manager of Business Development Advanced Power Systems Division. In 1976, the entire French family celebrated becoming naturalized US citizens. Mike completed his career with Westinghouse at the Savannah River Project where he worked for 13 years before retiring. He remained active in the Savannah River Site Retirees Association for several years following his retirement. He was well respected in his field and helped found the International Metallurgical Society before serving on the board. From 1977-1979 he was Vice- President of the IMS. He was then elected President of the IMS from 1979-1981. Despite being born in England and remaining a lifelong Huddersfield Town (soccer) fan, Mike was swept up by the Pittsburgh Steelers winning ways in the 1970s and celebrated all of the Steelers Super Bowl victories with all of his friends from Pittsburgh. McKEE THOMAS GEORGE Age 74, of Baden, formerly of West View took his last ride on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from Beaver Valley Nursing Home and Rehab Center to heaven with the memory of his 1939 Plymouth Coupe which he truly loved. His love of his life was his Beagle dog, Rusty. He was born November 9, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late James J. and Vera Heinlein McKee. He was longtime head mechanic for Suburban Buick, McCandless Twp. Tom was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. His passion in life was cars. He not only enjoyed collecting and restoring cars, but was also a Nascar enthusiast. In his younger years, he raced cars at various dirt tracks in the area and was often seen drag racing across the McKees Rocks bridge but not by the police so his legend goes. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brother, Tim McKee; a brother-in-law, Ellwood Greiner; and special great-niece, Alyssa McKee. Surviving are a daughter, Marcy (Mike) Panza of Gibsonia; a grandson, Michael Panza; a sister, Patricia Greiner with whom he resided; a brother and sister-in-law, James P. and Sharon McKee of Baden; numerous nieces and nephews; and many many friends. ANDREWS JAMES JIM A. Died February 27, 2017, in Escondido, CA. May he rest in peace. Born in 1950 in New Jersey, Jim grew up near Pittsburgh, PA, later living near Dallas, TX for 30 years. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve and graduated from Penn State. He retired from Rockwell International in 2015. Jim is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Shue) Andrews; Cynthia's daughters, Angela Shue and Jennifer Shue Lin; his sister, Elaine Andrews; brother-in-law, Chris Honeyman; nephew, Ian Honeyman; and niece, Catie Honeyman. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Doris (Drinkwine) Andrews; and his brother, Douglas A. Andrews. We will miss Jim's enthusiasm for solving problems, his passion for motorcycles, fast boats, and 4-wheel-drive challenges, his love of the outdoors and photography, his tending of his Texas home and garden, his perfectly clean kitchen, his wry sense of humor, and the smile crinkles around his eyes. Eileen, daughter of the late Josephine and Raymond Tasillo, is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Daniel; children, Matthew (Jennifer) Carlins, Sarah (Richard) Kwiatkowski and Emily (Dustin) Price; grandchildren, Noah and Mason Carlins and Lucy Kwiatkowski; brothers, James (Francine) Tasillo and Raymond Tasillo (Teresa Moore); and sisters, Joyce (Kevin) Schlentner, Mary Jean Malawski (Ken McPhail) and Joan Blodgett; and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Rachel. Eileen will be missed by a large circle of family, friends and colleagues. After earning her Master's in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh and graduating valedictorian, Eileen joined SIDS of Pennsylvania as its first Director of Support and Education. A pioneer of the national infant safe sleep movement, known as Cribs for Kids, Inc., Eileen developed a safe sleep curriculum that she taught to nursing schools, child care providers, mortuary science students, hospitals, health departments, high school health classes, and non-profit organizations. She made a major impact in the lives of many grieving families by starting Healing Hearts, a bereavement program that included home visits, phone calls day and night, and monthly support meetings to families whose infants had died for any reason and needed support. Eileen served as President of the Alumni Association of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work; Special Discipline Instructor, Pennsylvania Keys to Professional Development; member of the Allegheny County Child Death Review Team; member of Safe Sleep Committees at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital; adjunct professor at Carlow University School for Social Change, Department of Social Work; and field instructor at Carlow University, Chatham University, Duquesne University School of Nursing and the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. Upon completion of air traffic control training, he was enroute to his first duty station when he was turned around due to the closure of the base. He was then sent to aircraft maintenance training graduating near the top of his class. He was assigned to the 71st fighter Interceptor Squadron at March AFB, CA where he became the crew chief for the squadron commander's aircraft, a position he led until his separation from the Air Force in 1952. He met Eleanore Papst and they were married in November 1952. He enlisted in the Air Force Reserve 911th Airlift Wing in 1955 as an engine mechanic. He also was a flight engineer in both C-119 and C-124 amassing over 5000 hours in each aircraft. He held positions in base operations as Director of Administration and Deputy Chief of Public Affairs before retiring in 1989 with 34 years of service with the rank of SMSgt. He was a little league baseball coach and an adult scout leader with Boy Scout Troop 905. He loved to bowl, was an avid coin collector and loved to watch TV, especially cowboy and civil war movies. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanore Swadlo; three sons: David (Paula) Swadlo, Moon Twp.; Joseph (Lori) Swadlo, Crescent Twp.; and Earl, Jr., Moon Twp.; five grandchildren: Keith, Amanda, Arianne, Justin, and Alan; two great- granddaughters: Madelyn and Everly. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. the HUNTSMAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MOON TWP., where a Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
