HOREN JAMES G. Age 83, of Shadyside, a devoted husband, father, grandfather,and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War and also had a 37 year career as a police officer for the City of Pittsburgh. James was the beloved husband of the late Jean Ann Horen, loving father of Roseann Covatto (Richard), Lori Ruppel (Lawrence), and Joan Frances Horen. Proud grandfather of Elizabeth Conley (Kevin), James, Richard, Anna and Grace Covatto, and Maggie Ruppel.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward M. and Helen Rose Horen; and his brother Edward James Darby Horen. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. Jim especially enjoyed spending time with his buddies at Fall T.E. Automotive. Madalen was known to some as "Madge" or "Titi." She graduated high school from Divine Redeemer Academy. Her career started with the B&O Railroad, Gimbels, and Prudential Insurance Company. More recently, she was employed by A.M. Lutheran Distributing, and Kribel's Bakery in Pleasant Hills. Some of the things she enjoyed were cooking, shopping, and bingo, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be missed every day. A beautiful woman is now a beautiful angel. She was born December 7, 1941, in Elizabeth and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anna Mae Thornton Lewis. Loretta was a member of St. Michael's Parish in Elizabeth Township and was a teacher for over 30 years for Elizabeth Forward School District. She is survived by her husband, William Thomas Bittle; son, Michael W. Bittle of Nashville, TN; daughter, Lee Ann (David) Szuhoza and Jessica and Jenna of Carroll Twp.; sisters, Maureen Lewis of Sarasota, FL, and Diane Rice of Delaware, OH; nieces, nephews; and her granddog, Athena. A native of Coalport, PA, he avoided the family tradition of coal work by becoming an educator: superintendent/ administrator in North Allegheny, Wilkinsburg and the Blackhawk school district as well as LaRoche College. Doctorate of Education, University of Pittsburgh 1960, B.Ed. California State College, where he met Maureen Wadlow, to whom he was married for 65 years. They raised four children, Moira (Peter Stroup), Swarthmore, PA, Brion (deceased), Craig (XiaoYu) of Hampton, PA, Eric (Roxanne) of Aleppo Twp., PA; also survived by eight grandchildren, 2.4 great- grandchildren. Dr. Hahn served in WWII with the Army Air Corps. He played competitive tennis with various leagues, well into his 80s. DUDLEY BOBBY GEORGE Age 88, a retired USAF Lt. Colonel, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center. Born in Iowa Park, TX on December 8, 1928, to the late George Sherrell and Verna Minnie (Emmons) Dudley. Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean (Roberts) Dudley on October 3, 1951. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Shirley Zakraysek; a nephew, Carl Zakraysek, both of Phoenix, AZ; and a niece, Dana Ruder of Atlanta, GA. Bobby was a graduate of Wichita Falls, TX High School and obtained his B.S. in Aeronautics from St. Louis University and his Master's in business from University of Texas. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Korea, Greenland and Europe. Bobby taught ROTC for four years at Texas A&M University and earned a second Master's in Economics. His doctorate was interrupted by special invitation to attend the Air War College. Bobby maintained an avid interest in music, chess and photography his entire life. He moved to Pittsburgh in 1971 and taught at Robert Morris University Logistics until at 70 he retired. He enjoyed teaching and all his many students in Western PA. He was an active member of the Pittsburgh Chess Club and published their newspaper for 25 years.
