NAVARRA CHARLENE ANN Age 65, of Lakewood, CO, passed away peacefully, on November 15, 2015, with her family by her side. She suffered a brief illness following a stroke. Born in New Castle, PA on August 3, 1950, Charlene was the daughter of Delores (Dolly) Jean Phillips and the late Fred H. Navarra. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo D. Shelledy, whom she loved dearly. She was a graduate of Neshannock High School and a graduate of Methodist College. She lived most of her life in the Pittsburgh, PA area and moved to Lakewood, CO to be near her grandchildren in 2005. Charlene was a longtime employee of Moody Insurance Agency in Denver and formerly worked at Construction Insurance in Pittsburgh. She loved cooking, eating out, traveling with her family, the Pittsburgh Steelers, holidays and her crazy dog, Bailey. She loved going to the beach and recently had traveled to Texas and Georgia for family weddings and to the Broadmoor with her granddaughter for a 65th birthday celebration. She learned to enjoy travel in her son and family's camper in the Rockies. Most importantly, she cherished every single moment she spent with her grandchildren, Paige, Everett, Sylvia and Brooks Alcorn and Madison and Kylee Fullbright. She was a generous and caring woman, always taking care of others. Survivors include her mother, Delores Phillips of Ft. Myers, FL; two sons, Chris Alcorn and wife, Amy of Lakewood, CO and Brian Alcorn and wife, Kimberly of Denver, CO; seven stepchildren, Cathy Allen and husband, Bill of Marietta, GA, Diane Hulse and husband, Kirk of Collinsville, IL, Janie Gray and husband, Dave of Mars, PA, Guy Shelledy and wife, Tricia of Morgantown, WV, Karen Fruscione and husband, Sam of Marietta, GA, Dan Shelledy and wife, Vicky of The Woodlands, TX and Ross Shelledy and wife, Mary Sue of Chesterfield, MO. She is survived by her sister, Linda D'Augostine and husband, Carl of New Castle, PA, sister, Joanne Navarra of Charlottesville, VA; and brother, Richard Navarra of Wexford, PA. She is survived by her six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will hold a memorial service in the Pittsburgh area at a later date to be announced. FOUTS REV. THERESA MARION "ROSE" Age 81, of Freedom, on Sunday, November 15, 2015, in Concordia, Cranberry Township. Born September 21, 1934, in Amity, AR, she was a daughter of the late Victor L., Sr. and Virginia Campbell Rose. Theresa was a United Methodist Pastor with the Western Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference. Ordained in 1981, she served United Methodist Churches including Robison Chapel, Uniontown Larger Parish, North Richmond, Teepleville, Green Valley, and Wilmerding, retiring from active ministry in 2000. She served on the Conference Commission on the Status and Role of Women from 1987 to 1994. Theresa was supportive of many community organizations, such as Animal Friends, Audubon Society, WQED, and the Butler Opera Society. A woman of many talents and great faith, she shared her passions in music, sewing, quilting, journaling, poetry, and language, being most passionate about her family. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death was her husband of 42 years, Rev. Earle H. Fouts. Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl L. Cotten, Pittsburgh, and Carrie R. (Michael) Hungerman, Cranberry; a son, Jeremy E. Fouts, Demorest, GA; a sister, June (Monty) Andrews- Howard, OK; one brother, Victor L. (Gwen) Rose, Jr., KS; six cherished grandchildren, Sheldon P. Cotten, Bronwyn Rose Cotten, Seth E. Hungerman, Evan W. Hungerman, Ryan M. Hungerman, and Luke D. Hungerman; along with two great-grandchildren, John M. and Jaxson W. Hungerman. He would tell the doctors that he contributed his longevity to a daily shot of whiskey and an Iron City beer. BURKHARDT COLLEEN JANE Age 88, of Monroeville, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015. She was born on October 28, 1927, in Johnstown, PA, to the late Joseph and Anna Heeney. Beloved wife of the late Dean H. Harshberger and the late Richard I. Burkhardt. She was the loving mother of James D. Harshberger (the late Donna), Richard J. Burkhardt, Timothy C. Burkhardt (Lori), Kurt F. Burkhardt (Tammi), John “Jack” Burkhardt (Tracie), and the late Kevin F. ”Rocky” Burkhardt and Marilyn Burkhardt. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Colleen graduated from Johnstown High School in 1945 and from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Nursing in 1949. She was a retired head nurse at Magee Women's Hospital. She was a founding member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and a longtime member of the Ladies of Charity and the Women's Guild. Received bachelor's of pharmacy from Western United College in Chengdu, China in 1946 and a BS in chemistry from National Zhejiang University in 1947. Received Canadian Red Cross Fellowship in 1948-1949, gave her financial means to leave China and come to US. Authored articles in the Journal of Chinese Pharmacy and the Journal of American Pharm. Assoc. Served as drug advisor to the Pgh. Organization of Chinese Americans. Earned MS in pharmacy in 1949 from University of Wisconsin where she met her husband. Married Yu-Sun Tang on June 9, 1950, in Gainesville, FL. Pursued Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Florida 1949-1952, but did not complete due to husband's move to New Jersey. Was pharmacist throughout her life: from 1952 in New Jersey; Indiana University Medical Center, 1961-1966; Thrift Drug Co in retail 1968-1970; Mayer's Drug Store 1971-1978; Meisner Pharmacy 1978-1981; Ta-Kung Po, Medical/Drug Info Update, writer 1982-1985; Methodist Home relief pharmacist, 1984-1986; Pharmacist Relief Service, Consultants Inc, Latrobe relief pharmacist, 1986-1990; Baldwin Court Inc relief pharmacist 1991 until she retired in Pittsburgh, PA. Member of First Bethel United Methodist Church. She did flower arranging as a hobby and made arrangements for church. Surviving are son, Paul C. Tang (wife, Lynnellen Miles grandchildren, Karisa and KellyAnne); daughter, Elaine Tang Lee (husband, Stephen E. Lee, grandchildren, Michelle and Chrissy); and son, John C. Tang (wife, Jean Hsia, grandchildren, Julia and Joanna). Preceded in death by oldest sister, Mao Yu-Mei, oldest brother, Mao Yu-Yueh, older brother, Mao Yu-Run, younger sister, Mao Yu-Dong, still surviving youngest sister, Mao Yu-Yan and half-sister, Mao Yu-Lin. Spent entire life giving to others and was main force in reuniting her family for any special occasion. Famous father Mao Yisheng had statue dedicated to him at Carnegie Mellon Univ. as first recipient of a Ph.D. of then Carnegie Tech and MS at Cornell. He was most famous for engineering a bridge in Hangzhou, China which was deemed “impossible to build”. All about family whether cooking ten dish dinners or organizing family get-togethers. Was second mother for nieces and nephews who immigrated to the US. Overcame extremely difficult childhood to make her own children's lives totally the opposite: loving, caring, and nurturing. She was born November 16, 1929, in Clairton, PA, daughter of the late Fred Lee Battle, Sr. and Luvenia Williams Battle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Broddie, Jr. She was a retired LPN from Montefiore Hospital with 18 years of service and worked another five years as a child care provider. She was a faithful member of the United Vision Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. Surviving are her children, Silko Renaldo Thomas of Waldorf, MD, Antoinette Thomas of Whitaker, PA, and Mary Elizabeth (Doug) Man of Old Bridge, NJ; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren; sisters, Willa Mae (Rudolph) Jones of Cleveland, OH and Agnes Taulton of Clairton; brother, Joseph Randall of Clairton; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. (Martina) Bauer of Albuquerque, NM; proud grandfather of Brian and Bethany Bauer and Beckett Cummins; brother of Lois Bauer; brother-in-law of Joanne Hendren; uncle of Daniel Rump, Susan Schlosser, Jeanne Rump-Dunlap, Maryellen Lakwijk and Alan Wayne Hendren. John served in the U.S. Army in Korea, was a graduate of Duquesne University and spent 40 years in quality assurance with the Federal Government. He was a member and instructor with the NRA and had previously taught classes at Community College in quality control. John was an avid reader, photographer and Steelers fan.
