BACHELER BARBARA Passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at her home in Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, Cranberry, following a brief illness. She was 94. Predeceased by her husband, Albert; and daughter, Lee. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Skip Battaglia) of Rochester, NY; son-in-law, Mike Largen of Chapel Hill, NC; and her two grandchildren, Ada Clinton (Travis Clinton) of Rochester, NY and Stephen Largen of Columbia, SC. Born in Somerville, MA, Barbara was a woman ahead of her time. She graduated from Tufts University summa cum laude at the age of 20. While raising her family in Buffalo, NY, she earned her Masters in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo and became head librarian at Clearfield Library in Williamsville, NY. Helping a library patron find a book or research a question gave her great joy and satisfaction. Married to her college sweetheart for over 65 years, Barbara successfully combined creating a loving home for her family while keeping her keen and curious mind active. Following a move to Franklin Park in 1978, she worked for a number of years in the Sewickley Library. When she and her husband moved to Sherwood Oaks in 2001, Barbara brought her skills to that community's library as well. Her love of family, good friends, books, lively gatherings, and classy clothes were her hallmarks. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at the auditorium at Sherwood Oaks, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Township, PA, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to Sherwood Oaks specifying the library fund. WEIR WILLIAM H. BILL, Jr. 90, of McDonald, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, in St. Clair Hospital. He was born November 23, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William and Marie (Hahn) Weir. Bill worked as a teacher and football coach at South Fayette High School for nearly two decades and was proud to lead the 1964 team to a WPIAL championship. Bill retired as the athletic director for West Jefferson Hills School District and was a member of Irons Memorial Church of McDonald. He was a highly decorated WWII veteran who served in the Army Air Corps. Bill was an avid golfer who achieved eight holes in one, and was a longtime starter at the Quicksilver Golf Course. Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy-Ann (Martin) Weir; two sons, William (Louise) Weir III of Murrysville and Doug (Deb) Weir of Venetia; grandchildren, Megan Leven, Martin Weir, Ben Weir, Morgan Evans, Kaitlyn Washko; and six great-grandsons. WEMPA HELEN C. (ZABROSKI) Of Monroeville and Irving, TX, died peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the age of 105. She was a member of North American Martyrs Parish, Monroeville, The Prime Timers Club at the Monroeville Senior Center, and St. Luke's Church in Irving, TX. Born in Wanamie, PA, and a long time resident of Kingston and Harvey's Lake, PA, Mrs. Wempa was married to Stanley Wempa for 44 years until his death at age 73 in 1973. She will be terribly missed by her two sons, Robert (the late Linda) of Irving and James (Marilyn) of Monroeville. After living with Bob for ten years, she moved to Monroeville in January 2013. Mrs. Wempa was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Zabroski of Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Peter Zabroski, Joseph Zabra, and Edward Zabroski. Mrs. Wempa enjoyed her seven grandchildren, Beverly Cenname, Brian (Carolyn) Wempa, David (Michele) Wempa, Brad Wempa, Jeff Wempa, Susan Drumm, and Tracie (Kevin) Hilst. Having great-grandchildren made her proud, they include, Brock, Bryce, Jakob, Alison, Langston, Shauna, and Alisa. Beside her immediate family, many nephews, and friends will miss her friendship, intelligence, and zest for life. Her greatest joys were her family and friends, practicing her Catholic faith, shopping, discussing news, and watching wrestling on television. HOLMES GARY F. 67, of Wexford, PA, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013, after a courageous and stoic battle with cancer, with his beloved wife, Patti Hollern Holmes holding his hand. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Isabelle Holmes; his in-laws, John T. and Margaret Hollern; and his brother-in-law, Patrick Martin. He is survived by his brother and fishing buddy, Richard Holmes; and sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Jerry) Hamilton, Rita Martin, Nancy (Joe) Colella, and Theresa (John) Kuhn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. With his quiet and unassuming personality, Gary never sought recognition for his good works or accomplishments, which included graduating magna cum laude (Robert Morris University) and receiving a Best of Breed award from the Hospital Council of Western PA. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime Armstrong County YMCA board member. Gary enjoyed simple pleasures such as fishing trips with Dick and watching sports, especially harness racing. He enjoyed traveling to such sites as Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mt. Rushmore, Mt. St. Helen, Mt. Rainier, and the Smoky Mountains, along with trips to the New England area, and the Atlantic beaches. He cherished his rescued cats, Pumpkin, Tiger, Morrie, Popcorn, and Rascal. He supported many animal-focused organizations. A hospital administrator, Gary could charm people with his quick wit, mischievous smile, twinkling eyes, and a playful wink. STELIOTES DEAN J. Age 85, of Upper St. Clair, passed away on November 30, 2013. Beloved Husband of Ann Marie Steliotes of 56 years; loving father of James Steliotes of Los Angeles, CA, Mark (Lisa) Steliotes of Venetia, Paul (Anne) Steliotes of Sewickley, Greg (Kim) Steliotes of Pine Richland, and Dr. Ted Steliotes of South Side; adored grandfather of Alaina, Nicole, Emily, Caroline, Dean, Rachel, and Michael; and the dear brother of Helen Harris and the late Emily Antonoplos and Zoe Meisenhelder. Dean Steliotes was an icon of the restaurant industry. HAMILTON ANNE M. Age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Forbes Hospice at West Penn Hospital. She was a resident at the Rosebrook Assisted Living facility in Sarver, PA. Anne was the former wife of the late Robert D. Hamilton, Sr.; and is survived by a son, Robert D. Hamilton, Jr.; she was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren, Eric of Pittsburgh, Jessica Snyder (Brandon) of Belleville, IL, Elizabeth of Rego Park, NY, Patrick of Cranberry Township, and Sean of Cranberry Township; she was the proud great- grandmother of Kate Louise Snyder. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Anne was a talented, generous person with a witty sense of humor. She spent her early adult years as a guitarist/vocalist with an all-female quintet performing in the Pittsburgh area and along the Atlantic Coast. She was also a dedicated employee having retired from the banking industry after 28 years of faithful service. She enjoyed weekend trips to Downtown Pittsburgh and was an avid "gadget shopper." She is loved very much and will be missed. Anne was a very private person who asked nothing of her family and acquaintances. Her first love was her family.
