CARSON PATRICIA ANN (DeMAURO) Age 75, of Plum, formerly of Penn Hills, was called home to the Lord on Thursday, November 5, 2015. She was born on December 9, 1939, in East Liberty to the late Louis and Nancy DeMauro. She was the beloved wife for 56 years of Dale “Red” Carson; and mother of four daughters, Terri (Ed) Medice of Leechburg, Kim Carson of Penn Hills, Dawn (Michael) Dell of Plum, and the late Kelly (Bob) Billstone of Plum; she is survived by seven grandchildren, Mallory, Caitlyn, Kirsten, Samantha, Maura, Alex and Megan; and one great-grandchild, Sophia. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lou, Frank, Kathy and Marion and survived by her sister, Linda. Her greatest loves were spending time with her family to celebrate holidays, birthdays and other special occasions and watching her beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. She was a faithful member of St. Susanna Church in Penn Hills and past President of the Penn Hebron Garden Club of Penn Hills. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Friends will be received Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday 2-7 p.m. at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Rd. (across from S&T Bank), Plum, PA 15239. PALUMBO M. DOLORES (CARROZZA) Age 86, of Bridgeville, formerly of Baldwin, on November 5, 2015. Beloved wife of the late James F. Palumbo; loving mother of Lisa Palumbo Herbick of Bridgeville, Denise (Edward) Ahrndt of Bridgeville and James (Nancy) Palumbo of Naples, FL; cherished grandmother of Natalie, Joseph and Lauren Herbick, Kevin and Austin Ahrndt and Lea and Anthony Palumbo; preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Agnes (DeBone) Carrozza; and her siblings, Lena Carrozza, Lucy Edinger and Andrew Carozza. Dolores was a graduate of Carnegie Tech, now known as Carnegie Mellon, and a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She taught business education at St. Elizabeth High School in Pleasant Hills. She impacted the lives of her students such that they continued to keep in touch with her in recent years. Dolores' proudest accomplishments are rooted in her love and devotion to her husband and family. She was a woman with deep values based in tradition and faith. The wisdom she bestowed upon her loved ones will continue to live on in their hearts forever. GOODWILL JOSEPH “JOE” EDWARD Age 81, of Upper St. Clair, passed away November 4, 2015. Joe was born in Brockton, MA on April 14, 1934, to the late Jennie and Frank Goodwill. Joe graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1956 with a BS in Metallurgy. He served in the Army as an Officer in South Korea and Ft. Benning. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1961. He had been employed by US Steel, Allegheny Ludlum, Timet Titanium and Carnegie Mellon University. He retired from CMU in 1999 as Director of the EPRI Center for Materials Production. Joe was a beloved and cherished husband, father and grandfather. His patient and kind demeanor was an inspiration to all who knew him. His love for travel brought him to every continent of the earth. He enjoyed reading, biking, skiing, and puns. He volunteered at the American Red Cross and Friends of the Montour Trail. He was a member of the Allegheny HYP Club and Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy; son, Ken and daughter-in-law, Van of San Diego; daughter, Julie and son-in-law, Andy Hall of Mt. Lebanon; and grandsons, Alexander, Carter, Owen, Aidan and Everett Hall. A memorial service will be held at Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church, 1240 Washington Rd., Pittsburgh, PA at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015. WALLACE WAYNE STEVEN Age 63, of Pittsburgh, passed away on November 4, 2015. He was born to Joseph and Catherine Wallace of Pittsburgh on September 30, 1952. Wayne was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a kind and generous man, loved by all who were blessed with him in their life. He was an artistic man who loved design, architecture and automobiles. Wayne was the loving husband of James Breland-Wallace for 32 years. Wayne is survived by his husband, James; mother; sister; seven brothers; James' five siblings; many nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. HOLLOWAY PIERRE On Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 88 years, Pierre Holloway went to heaven to join his beloved wife, Martha; daughter, Cynthia; and granddaughter, Lauren Johnson. Pierre was a retired executive of Gulf Oil Corporation. His gentle manner and welcoming smile greeted everyone he met. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, he grew up all over the South. He graduated from Tulane University in Engineering and joined the Army to serve. Subsequently, he traveled the world with Gulf Oil and his family. He was an inspiration to all who met him. His life will be celebrated by his daughter, Katherine and his son-in-law, George Wharton in a private ceremony in Florida. SCALISE HELEN E. BOZZO Age 89, of Glenshaw, on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, passed under the loving care of her family. Wife of the late Joseph F. Scalise; loving mother of Linda and Jim Jackson and Kathie and Bob Holder; Nunny, as she was known to many, had three loving grandchildren, Patrick Joseph Holder, Mark Joseph Jackson and Jennifer Lynn Holder; dear sister of Frank Bozzo, Richard Bozzo and the late Dorothy Simakas and Norma Householder; daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Bozzo; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Helen was a volunteer at Harmarville Rehabilitation and Meals on Wheels for many years. She was one of the founding members of St. Bonaventure Church, member of the Riverview Community Action Corp. as well as a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. Helen lived every day to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved to bowl, play bocci ball, bridge and 500. She will be greatly missed but her family will have peace knowing she has been reunited with her husband, Joe and their son who was lost in childbirth. CUSICK SISTER MARY DONALD, SC Age 100, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on November 6, 2015. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Mary Donald entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1933, from St. Stephen Parish, Hazelwood. Preceded in death by her parents, William and Nora (Butler) Cusick; four brothers, William, Joseph, Donald, and Thomas; and a sister, Mary, she is survived by a niece and a nephew. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Duquesne University and a master's degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh. Sister Mary Donald's ministry in education extended more than 35 years as teacher and principal in schools of the Pittsburgh Diocese and the Archdiocese of Washington. For another 15 years, she served as supervisor of elementary schools staffed by the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill and eventually of other schools in the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg. Sister Mary Donald became active from 1989 to 1995 with SOAR (Support Our Aging Religious) and later volunteered her services in the finance department of the Sisters of Charity. Dedicated and indefatigable, Sister Mary Donald became the first recipient of the Distinguished Ministry in Catholic Education Award in 1994. In reflecting on her life, Sister Mary Donald wrote, "I have loved my work, my students and all who have in any way influenced me. I am indebted to my family who gave me my first love of God, to my community who enriched this gift over many years and to God who has blessed me with His love." MILLS MARY E. “BETTY”, Ph.D. Age 87, passed peacefully on October 20, 2015, at the Arbors III of St. Barnabas Health System. Betty was the daughter of the late Richard and Alusta (Hiller) Hollihan; and wife of the late Paul A. Mills; sister of Dorothy M. Kane and the late Richard Hollihan, Cyril Hollihan, Bernice Serre, and Ethel Wolf. Betty is survived by nephews and nieces, Paul Hinnebusch, Ann Rowe, Richard (Lorraine) Wolf, Peggy McCracken, Susan Hollihan, and Marlene B. (Walter) Merriman. After Betty's marriage to Paul, she became a lifelong student. She attended various colleges, eventually graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a Doctorate Degree of Psychology, M. Elizabeth Mills, Ph.D. In addition to her Ph.D., she obtained a real estate license and was involved in interior design. But her true passion was traveling. Betty and Paul traveled worldwide on business and pleasure trips. Her favorite places were Italy and Carmel, California. After Paul's death, Betty continued to travel, joining a professional group of doctors and lawyers to China, Australia, and Japan, to name a few. With her professional background, she volunteered her time, especially on New Year's Eve, to answer calls from those who were desperate and lonely. Her kindness not only extended to family, but to those who needed guidance. Throughout her life, Betty set an example of grace, dignity, and a sense of humor. She leaves a legacy of choice, commitment, independence, humor, and compassion for others. The family is grateful for the compassionate and loving care Betty received from the staff at St. Barnabas. As per her request, there were no funeral services or visitation. In lieu of tears, Betty would prefer remembrances of smiles and how she touched the lives of many during her lifetime.
