BURDA MARLENE Age 79, of Glenshaw, on September 16, 2015. Cherished wife of the late Stephen J.; loving mother of Stephen J., Jr., Michael J., and the late Matthew J. Burda; sister of Patrick Hart and the late Margaret Leuenberger; also survived by nieces and nephews. Marlene served as a Trustee and Officer of Achieva (formerly ARC-Allegheny) for nearly 15 years. Along with her cohorts, she visited institutions for people with disabilities across the state and regularly reported instances of abuse and neglect to state officials resulting in improvements that made life better for thousands of individuals. Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Narcisso and Ida Puccini; and the widow of John Joseph Forzese. GUTH GLEN G. On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, Glen G. Guth, of O'Hara Township, formerly of Fox Chapel and Philadelphia, passed away. He was the beloved husband of Antoinette Petrucci; father of Lorraine J. Guth (Alphonse Borowski) and Richard W. Guth; brother of Gail Nichols (David); and the son of the late Warren and Alta (Fenner) Guth; grandfather of Alexander and Adriana Guth-Borowski and Karleigh Guth; son-in-law of Mary Petrucci Sardello. Glen received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology and his MBA and a Masters of Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. He also was a licensed Professional Engineer who built his career at Philadelphia Electric and Westinghouse in power plant operations. Prior to his retirement Glen taught physics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Glen was a passionate cook who took pride in creating holiday meals. He also enjoyed reading, completing crossword puzzles and was particularly proud of his Eagle Scout Badge. Glen was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, target shooting and boating; he was known on the three rivers as "Captain Glen". Visitation will be at the ANTHONY J. KELSEY SISTER MIRIAM RITA, S.C. Age 99, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on September 16, 2015. A native of Pittsburgh, Sister Miriam Rita entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1942, from Holy Innocents Parish, Sheraden. Preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Emma (Willebrand) Kelsey; a brother, Fred, Jr.; and three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca (George, Jr.) Quiter, Sister Mary Rebecca, SC and Mrs. Aimee (Lawrence) Killmeyer; she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in secondary administration from Xavier University, Cincinnati. Sister Miriam Rita was assigned to the admissions office of the former Providence Hospital in Beaver Falls and then to the office of the registrar at Seton Hill University. Sister Miriam Rita ministered as a teacher and administrator in secondary schools of the Altoona- Johnstown, Greensburg, Phoenix and Pittsburgh dioceses. She was principal at Holy Innocents High School, Pittsburgh and at Seton High School, Chandler, AZ. She also ministered as the secretary, business manager at Sacred Heart High School and as a pastoral minister at Saint Jerome Parish in Charleroi. Sister Miriam Rita was named Assistant to the Archivist for the Sisters of Charity in 1988, a position she held until her retirement in 2003, when she continued to volunteer her services. Of her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Miriam Rita reflected, "To be a Sister of Charity is a special gift from God, and a great privilege. I thank God every day for this gift and I hope that, during my lifetime, I have followed St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Vincent de Paul in bringing Christ to all whom I have met and served." Arrangements: Visitation Sunday and Monday, September 20 and 21, 2015, 2 - 7 p.m. Vigil Sunday, September 20, 2015, 7 p.m. Funeral Monday, September 21 , 2015, 7 p.m., Caritas Christi Motherhouse, Mt. SCHENDEL SISTER MARY LOUISE (SISTER MARY URBAN) A Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 71 years, died at the Sisters of Mercy infirmary on September 15, 2015. Born in Trafford, PA, she was 90 years old. Daughter of Otto and Anna (Bender) Schendel, Sister Mary Louise entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Regis Parish in Trafford in 1944, and made final vows in 1950. Sister Mary Louise received a B.A. degree in Art from Carlow College (now Carlow University) and a M.Ed. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. She taught in area Catholic schools including St. Paul Orphanage, Immaculate Conception in Washington, PA, St. Cyril of Alexandria, St. Peter Grade School and Domenec High School, North Side and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Pleasant Hills where she also served as principal. When Domenec High School closed in 1973, Sister Mary Louise became an assistant professor of mathematics at Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC). Although she chose to teach both credit and remedial courses, she had a special interest in remedial work, and helping students to understand what they needed. She also coauthored a text for remedial students entitled Core Mathematics, published in 1980. She retired in 1995, as professor emerita. She quoted, "I enjoyed teaching at CCAC; it was fun. It was truly the work of Mercy." Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gregory, Fr. Alfred (Regis), Urban, Leo, Joseph and Alfred Schendel; and sisters, Rosamond Schendel and Virginia Brawley. Sister Mary Louise is survived by a sister-in-law, Phyllis Schendel in NC; and several nieces and nephews in California. Friends will be received Sunday, September 20, 2015, from 1-8 p.m. at the Convent of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 21, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, followed by interment in St. Xavier's Cemetery, Latrobe, PA.
