ECKSTEIN A. WALLACE “WALLY” Age 70, died on May 22, 2014, in his home, after suffering for more than two decades from a debilitating lung disease. He was born on June 15, 1943, in Johnstown, PA. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold C. Eckstein, of Johnstown. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Pullen) Eckstein; daughter and son-in-law, Ericka and Brad Matteo, of Apollo; and his grandson and best buddy, Dante; he is also survived by his mother, LaVerne Eckstein of Johnstown; his sisters, Arlene Edie of Florida and Nancy Trotz of Johnstown; his brothers, Jeffrey of Virginia and Gregg of Pittsburgh; Wally is also survived by many nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved very much. Wally was a 1961 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School in Johnstown, and a 1965 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. His career began at Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, but shortly moved to Pittsburgh. There he worked for Westinghouse for almost 30 years, mostly at the Tele-Computer Center in North Braddock. Towards the end of his career he worked for Equitable Gas in Pittsburgh before his declining health forced him into retirement. Wally was blessed with a very attentive and loving extended family and a group of the most amazing friends. Wally was a difference maker in many of the lives he touched and is greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial visitation will be held at the GENE H. CORL INC. FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100), from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, and on Friday, May 29, 2015, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. PAINTER ELSIE ARABELLE (KAMPHAUS) Age 90, passed away on April 27, 2015, in Ocala, FL, formerly of Pittsburgh. Elsie was preceded in death by her loving husband, James (Bun) Painter. She was the mother of Sharon (Wilson), James Robert (Colorado), Dennis (deceased) and Bonnie (Paul). Elsie was the daughter of Leo and Elsie (Ziegler) Kamphaus. She was one of seven children, George (deceased), Leona (the late Dugan), Jean Blanchard, Carl, Paul, and Leo Kamphaus. Elsie enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, camping at Holiday Camplands in Andover, Ohio, traveling, line dancing, bocci, shuffleboard, and card or board games. TOOMEY Sr. MARY Passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015, after living as a Sister of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities for 69 years. During that time, Sister taught students in elementary grades for 25 years in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. After pursuing her masters in library science, Sister became a librarian in the various high schools staffed by her community, working in that capacity for almost 16 years. Upon retirement, Sr. Mary spent time as registrar for the St. Francis Nursing Alumnae for six years. Sister was always intrigued with technology and was quite skillful with the computer, especially as it was a means of keeping in touch with family and happenings in the global community. Sr. Mary had a sharp Irish wit and a keen memory which enabled her to hold everyone's attention as she told stories from her childhood and her early adult years before entering religious community. Although small in stature, she had a heart that was full of compassion and tenderness for those less fortunate. She was fond of saying “we are so blessed,” and we in turn can truly say how blessed we were for having her as our sister in community. Visitation at the Mt. Dick was a World War II Army Air Force veteran as radio man on a B24 in the South Pacific. NEEPER DONALD F. Of Forest Hills, age 87, on Friday, May 23, 2015. Loving husband of the late Maxine T. (Petrick) Neeper; dear father of Susan (late Michael) Daniher of CO, Terry (late Raymond) Bradley of Monroeville, Lee Ann (Gerry) Sandusky of MD and Mark (Lisa) Neeper of CO; grandfather of Christopher and Sweet Cicely Daniher, Kathryn and Zachary Sandusky, and Bradley Neeper; brother of Ronald Neeper of Irwin. Don was a retired Sales Representative of Westinghouse at the Power Circuit Breaker Division in Trafford. He was a longtime member of the Forest Hills Lions Club and the Forest Hills Auxiliary Police and he was a frequent attendee of Forest Hills Council meetings. Don's greatest passion was being a jazz drummer. In his prime, he played in various bands in many clubs and nightspots in Pittsburgh. His biggest thrill was the one-evening chance to play with the Benny Goodman Orchestra at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. In his retirement, Don could be found in his basement studio playing his drums to the recorded tunes of Frank Sinatra, Stan Kenton and Count Basie. Don requested that his body be donated to science. McDEVITT HANNAH E. (GOODRUM) Age 90, of Clairton, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 22, 2015. She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in West Mifflin, to the late James and Britha (Andrews) Goodrum. She was the beloved wife of 64 years of Lawrence F. McDevitt, who passed away Jan. 16, 2014. She was cared for and is survived by her loving daughter, Vickie McDevitt, of Clairton; sister, Jean Hudson, of Shalimar, FL; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by sister, Mary DaBaldo; and brothers, James and Arnold Goodrum. Her sister, Viola Edwards, of Sewickley, passed recently on May 23, 2015. She retired from Kmart-Crafton Ingram as the restaurant manager and previously worked at W.T. Grant Company. She enjoyed spending time in Tionesta, her daily walks throughout the neighborhood and trips to the casino. She was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in West Mifflin. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at S.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 432 N. Sixth St., Clairton, PA 15025.
