CHATMAN BERTHA J. Bertha Jean Chatman was born January 29, 1934, to the late Julia and Percy Martin in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the eldest child of eight children. She was known by her friends as Bert. She departed this life quietly and peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 16, 2015. She attended high school in Pittsburgh. Bertha continued her education and dedicated her life to the nursing profession helping numerous people throughout her 35 year career at the South Side Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She was known to all as a kind, giving and hard working woman who dedicated her life to helping others. Her love for God allowed her to live a long life of 81 years. Bertha was acknowledged and loved by all. Bertha met the love of her life Eugene Chatman. They married in 1960. Bertha leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Eugene; one child, Kimberly Chatman-Babers; two brothers, David and Calib, both of Pittsburgh, PA; two grandchildren, Corey and Timera; two great- grandchildren, Marcia and Cortez; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and many lifelong friends. TENLEY GLEN C. Age 87, of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. He was born on July 3, 1927, in Defiance, Pennsylvania, a son of the late James L. and Edythe (Manley) Tenley. On June 5, 1949, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, he married his wife, Margaret "Betty" (Masood) Tenley. Along with his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his sister, E. Jean McCahan, Martinsburg, PA, formerly of Everett; brother-in-law, Albert N. Masood, married to Nancy (Tenley), Martinsburg, formerly of Saxton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Tenley, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Stephen G. "Mack" McCahan. Glen was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School Class of 1945. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force during World War II and also the Korean War, having served as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Everett United Methodist Church. Mr. Tenley was employed at the Kopper Aggregate Company in Pittsburgh for 31 years, serving as CEO of the company for many years until his retirement. After retirement from the company, he served as a consultant for a couple of years. He was a member of the Everett Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. No. 524 and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed supporting clubs, organizations and charities in the various communities over the years. Glen enjoyed stocking fish, fishing and hunting and going on various hunting trips with family and friends. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Duvall Cemetery, Six Mile Run, with Rev. Barbara Berg, officiating. DENNING REV. GARY WAYNE The former pastor, for 23 years, of the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh, passed away at the age of 65, Thursday, April 23, 2015, in Madison, Indiana. Rev. Denning served as the interim pastor at First Baptist in 1991, and the church selected him as their permanent pastor in 1992. During his pastorate, Rev. Denning developed several programs for children in the surrounding community and a vacation bible school and several evening programs for children and young adults in the congregation and university community. He played an active role in the chaplaincy programs at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Melon University and conducted a bible class for students and adults on Sunday mornings. He also presented many advent and lenten series programs for the congregation and the community. He worked as a volunteer on archeological sites near the Sea of Galilee several times since 1983. He also played an important role in Christian Associates and often sponsored ministers from other denominations to conduct services at First Baptist. He played a major role in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the congregation and the 100th anniversary of the church building in 2012, and published “The Story in the Windows The First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh”, a well illustrated description of the church's famous Connick windows. Rev. Denning was born in Madison, Indiana and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1971. He completed his theological studies at the International Baptist Seminary at Rueshilikon, Switzerland and completed graduate work in Egyptology at the University of Zurich. Ordained in 1986, he served at the First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before coming to Pittsburgh. Rev. Denning returned home to Madison in retirement and was active in the West Fork Baptist Church. He enjoyed doing for others, traveling, being witty and writing. Rev. Denning will be missed by his loving daughters, Tiffany Pemberton and husband, Jim, of Harrison, Arkansas, Cathy Denning of Evansville, Indiana; his loving mother, Pauline Anderson Denning Mason of Madison, Indiana; his loving grandson, Will Moss; his sisters, Margaret "Margie” Sparks of Madison, Indiana, Rhonda Pemberton and her husband, Joe, of Harrison, Arkansas, Sandra Demaree and her husband, Carl, of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Ernst Denning; his stepfather, Lloyd Mason; and his sister, Donna Bradford. Rev. Denning will also be missed by the many friends that had become his extended family from around the world. BRUCE MARGARET “PEGGY” (HALL) On Thursday, May 21, 2015, Margaret “Peggy” (Hall) Bruce, of Finleyville. Wife of the late John Bruce; sister of the late Genevieve Hall, Sarah Pokorny and Alta McConeghy; aunt of James Barnes of Louisville, KY, Ray Pokorny and Beverly McConeghy, both of Gill Hall and the late James McConeghy and Kenny Pokorny; also survived by six great-nephews; eight great-great-nieces and nephews. Peg was the last of the Hall girls. She was the face of DiStefano Pharmacy working as a dependable clerk for 45 years. She was very independent all of her life, a regular at the Library Rite Aid and the Blue Flame Restaurant everyday for lunch, and was a lifetime member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. In her younger days, Peggy was a fixture at local weekly dances. BLISTAN AMELIA S. A longtime resident of Peters Township, recently living at Strabane Woods Assisted Living Facility in Washington, on Thursday, May 21, 2015. She was born November 18, 1924, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of John and Mary (Ilavsky) Shevchik. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Matthew M. Blistan; her children, Matthew Blistan, Jr. (Mary Anne) and Sandra Gullborg (William); a brother, Daniel Shevchik; sisters-in-law, Olga Paulovkin, Mildred Sweeney, Rose Hoover, Darlene Moschak, and Natalie Gardner; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Blistan (Patricia); grandchildren, Matthew Blistan III (Julie), Rachel Blistan (Anthony Beckman), Brett Gullborg (Christine), and Evan Gullborg (Lindsey); great-grandchildren, Matthew Blistan IV, Brooke Gullborg and Benjamin Gullborg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael, Millan, Rudy, and John; and a sister, Mary. Mrs. Blistan was a graduate of Schenley High School in Pittsburgh. She was a lifelong member of Holy Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Northside of Pittsburgh where she also sang in the choir. She had a passion for sewing, gardening, baking and decorating cakes, music, and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins fan. She was a long-standing and active member of several fraternal organizations including Sokol USA, United Lutheran Society, GBU Financial Life, and Eastern Star. LOVRICH SISTER M. MAGDALENE “MARY”, OSF Sister M. Magdalene, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis of the United States Province and in her 75th year of profession, died on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Mount Assisi Convent Motherhouse in Bellevue, PA, at the age of 94. Sister Magdalene entered the community from St. Albert Church, Adah, PA in 1938 and professed her first vows in 1939 at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, PA. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Carlow University majoring in Math and minoring in English and Latin, a Master of Arts in Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh majoring in English. She completed a post- master's work in secondary school administration at Duquesne University. Throughout her years of ministry, Sister Magdalene taught in elementary school for one year and the remainder of her teaching ministry was in Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA, Mount Assisi Academy in Pittsburgh, PA and Mon-Valley High School in Monongahela, PA. Sister Magdalene was principal of Mount Assisi Academy from 1954-1970 and also taught English, Latin and Math. She knew many of the alumnae of Mount Assisi Academy and kept in contact with them and they with her after the Academy closed in 1978. Sister Magdalene was very intelligent and had a remarkable memory for facts and details. She used her gifts and talents for her religious community and for the students she taught. Sister Magdalene was a member of the administration of the province for three terms, served as a delegate for three general chapters, secretary for two other general chapters and a delegate for five provincial chapters. She was a member of the Congregational Constitution Committee when major changes took place after the Second Vatican Council. In 1993, she was appointed as the official archivist of the province and served until 2013. Sister Magdalene was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Slujnski) Lovrich. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas. She is survived by her religious community; her sisters, Carolyn Bailey, who resides in Land O'Lakes, FL and Anna Tuskan, who is a resident of Marian Hall Personal Care Home in Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her nephews, Jerome Tuskan, Ron Tuskan and Dennis Bailey; nieces, Regina Rinderer and Rosemary Pascia. She also has great- nieces and nephews. The viewing will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mount Assisi Convent on Monday, May 25, 2015. PISON JOHN P. Age 73, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, after a valiant nine year battle with colon cancer. Husband of Barbara (Jeso) for 51 years; proud father of Eileen (Jake) Phillips and Glen (DJ) Pison; loving grandfather of Sean Phillips; and brother of Joann Pison. Preceded in death by parents, John and Mary. John was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. His greatest enjoyment was mentoring his grandson in the love of fly fishing for trout. John's business career began at U.S. Steel's Duquesne Works as an instrument technician for 19-1/2 years. When the mill closed in 1986 he became a training instructor for what was to become Emerson Process Control Division, RIDC Park. He retired as a Senior Instructor in 2011. Per John's request, there will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1719 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA 15116. The family wants to especially thank the staff and physicians at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA for the wonderful care and support they provided John and the family during his final days. FABRIZI LOUIS WILLIAM Age 87, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, of Brentwood. Husband of the late Josephine (DeSimone); father of Sylvia Fabrizi (Dick Krenz), Gina (Robert) Solomon, Louis (Janice) and Leonard (Sherry); grandfather of Richard (Stephanie) Krenz, Kelly Krenz, Alicia Fabrizi, Ashley (Jake) Strang, Shelby Josephine Solomon and Lauren, Neal and Hannah Butler; great- grandfather of Joey Richards, Ellie and Lucy Strang and Avery Claire Krenz; predeceased by three brothers and three sisters; also survived by brother-in-law, Rick (Robin) DeSimone; and nephews, Ricky and Bruno DeSimone. Louis was a former interior contractor for 40 years and helped introduce drywall to the Pittsburgh area. Friends will be received at the JOHN F.
