Jeffrey was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy 1969-1971 aboard the USS America. "Painter, as he was affectionately called, was employed by Noftz Sheet Metal for over 20 years. Brother of Pat, Mimi (Chester), Jonathon (Donna) and the late Eddie Mason. He will be missed by his nephew; five nieces; four great-nieces; and numerous co-workers and friends. Barbara's list of volunteer and charitable work is too lengthy to fully list, but include the Junior League of Pittsburgh, Children's Hospital, Contact Pittsburgh, Hartwood Acres, Saint Margaret's Hospital and the Fox Chapel Episcopal Vestry and choir. Her interests over the years included bridge, bowling, gardening, tennis and paddle tennis, but her first priority was always her children. Though her days were busy with various activities, she made it a point to always be home for the kids after school, ready with snacks or a hug or a shoulder to cry on. She was a true June Cleaver mother and proud of it. Her children are forever grateful for the time she devoted to them. Her words to live by came from a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.
