MALEY DOROTHY MAE Age 92, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, April 20, 2015. She was born March 7, 1923 in Gratztown and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Emily Moon Herb and wife of the late William Maley, who died March 11, 2007. Bill and Dorothy "Red" were married for 59 years. Dorothy was a member of the Mount Vernon Community Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star. She was also a volunteer at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. She is survived by her daughters, Paulette Maley Lavsa of Franklin Park and Karen C. Maley of Whitehall; sons, William Maley of Deep Creek, MD, and Richard Maley of Elizabeth Twp.; brother, Daniel J. Herb of Charleroi; grandchildren, Lauren Maley, Ryan Maley, William Maley, Jr., Evan Lavsa and Kurt Lavsa; great-grandchildren, Skye, Kira and Karalynn; her "Faithful" friends, Lucy, Marcella and Fred; and granddogs, Lady, Tucker, Teddy and Brew. She will be missed by her devoted caregivers, Carla, Janice, Trish, Bev, Rosalie, and Brenda. She was greeted in heaven by her granddogs, Bella, Willie and Emmett. HOLMAN DOROTHY ELSIE CONTI “DOTTIE” Dorothy Holman, age 90, of Leetsdale, died Wednesday morning, March 11, 2015, at her daughter's home in Tennessee, following a courageous battle to recover after surgery with complications. Born February 25, 1925, in Ambridge, a daughter of the late Teresa Belli-Conti and Vincenzo. Surviving are her two children, Scott Earl and his wife, Betsy Holman, Gurnee, IL and Kim Teresa and husband, Timothy Smith, Jonesborough, TN; grandchildren, James Earl Holman II, Kathleen Cascino and Brent Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wilimina; and her brothers, Harry, Willis, Romeo, Arch, Gene, Walter, Arthur and Robert Conti. KELLY FRANCIS T. “FRANK” Age 80, of Finleyville, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born March 23, 1935, in Dormont, a son of Francis and Mary Ann Feeney Kelly. Mr. Kelly was retired as a welder with Boeing Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville and a former member of Pittsburgh Ski Club. Surviving are two brothers, Neil Kelly or Crafton and Jerry Kelly of Finleyville; four sisters, Betty Lutton of Eighty-Four, Kathleen Kelly of Brookline, Florence Rusch of Venetia and Arlene Kelly of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, Patrick Kelly; and three sisters, Josephine Zirngibl, Rita Kelly and Helena Hlavsa. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at KEGEL FUNERAL HOME, INC., Tim P. ABARAY GEORGE MICHAEL Age 58, formerly of Forest Hills, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, George Michael Abaray of Costa Mesa, California, passed peacefully with his fiancée, Tracey Anderton, at his side. He was born in Braddock on February 23, 1957, to George A. Abaray and the late Anna Mae Tierney Abaray, who died on April 16, 2010. George is survived by his father, George A. Abaray; a brother, Greg Abaray both of Forest Hills; a son, George of California; and aunts, uncles and cousins. George grew up in North Braddock and he was a 1975 graduate of Churchill High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. WALSNOVICH SHIRLEY ANN Age 78, of Butler, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015, while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township. She is survived by her three children, William R. (Susan) Walsnovich, Judy (Louis) Gurtner and Deb (Greg) Greiner; seven grandchildren, Megan, Casey, Craig, Kellen (Kim), Andrew, Mark and Cory; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Marlo; her sister, Betty (Heinz) Katasanow; and her beloved four-legged friend, Miss Molly. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 58 years, William Walsnovich. NEWMAN MARVIN (MAKEY) On Monday, April 20, 2015, age 91, following a brief illness, with his loving and devoted wife of 43 and a half years Sylvia at his bedside. Marvin was the fourth child of the late Sarah Neurman and Theodore Newman. His two older sisters, Mary Francis Cohen of North Miami, FL and Betty Esther Fine of Pittsburgh, PA preceded him in death. He is survived by his twin sister, Marjorie Katzeff-Buchman of Palm Harbor, FL. Marvin was born and raised in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1942. Marvin served in the US Army during WWII. He attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, where he was an active member of Pi Lamda Phi Fraternity. He graduated in 1948 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Marvin stayed on at WVU for graduate school and earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics in 1950. Upon earning his Master's, he became a mathematics instructor at Glenville State College in Glenville, WV. He then accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Drexel Institute of Technology. While on staff at Drexel, he simultaneously pursued a PhD degree in Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1963, he left academia, and moved to Pittsburgh where he was employed by Westinghouse Electric as an engineer - mathematician. During his years at Westinghouse he distinguished himself as a scholar and expert in the application of mathematics, which was applied to the use of computers to conduct stress analysis studies in a variety of different engineering areas. This included the manufacturing and testing of large electrical generators and the wings of the Israeli F-151 Ra'am Fighter Jet. In 1970 he had the very good fortune of meeting the love of his life, Sylvia Alpern Gelman. They were married on October 17, 1971. He openly adored and loved her children, Rhonda (Gelman) Kelley and Bruce Gelman from the very beginning of the relationship. Marvin was actively involved with the Gemilas Chesed Synagogue over the years. He especially enjoyed the local B'nai Brith chapter where he became President. Additionally, he devoted himself to the establishment of a Holocaust Memorial which now stands on the grounds of the Gemilas Chesed Cemetery in Versailles, PA. He took on the chairmanship of the Memorial's founding committee where he worked tirelessly on all aspects of the project. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia; daughter, Rhonda (Gelman) Kelley, son-in-law, Daniel Kelley; son, Bruce S. Gelman, daughter-in-law, Dana Gelman; five grandsons; two great-granddaughters; four nephews; and five nieces. Friends will be received at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177) on Wednesday from Noon until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Moshe Russell. STROZ SOPHIA (RACHFAL) Died at home of heart failure on April 19, 2015, at the age of 95. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Thaddeus Stroz. Sophia is survived by many loving family members. She and her husband had befriended and assisted many elderly ones during their active years. She was a loved and active member at the South Hills Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for 59 years, where she received loving support especially during her declining years.
