MCCARTHY BRIAN 1/21/69 ~ 9/30/...
McCARTHY
BRIAN
1/21/69 ~ 9/30/13
Everyday was special for Brian. He reveled in getting on the school bus with his friends and, after graduating, commuting to and from his job. For fun he swam, rode horses, loved listening to music, and loved playing with animals, especially his dog Maxx. He rarely missed a party or a picnic, and at least once a year he donned his own tux for a formal dance.
Traveling was another love of Brian's. He made many trips to Pittsburgh to visit family and for special holidays and celebrations. He went to the ocean for sun and sand and enjoyed a week or two camping in the Shenandoah Mountains in the summer.
Brian was loving, friendly, active and happy. He was special to so many people, including those he just met. Brian was special in other ways. He was special needs and special education. He was born with a rare condition that left him unable to talk, with mental retardation and, as he neared his teens, unable to walk. His Mom moved back to Pittsburgh and Brian followed, moving from Northern Virginia Training Center to Allegheny Valley School where he was able to pursue the things he loved. He also enjoyed new adventures such as a Pirates game, the Gateway Clipper, the Irish Festival as well other festivals and outings.
When Brian was born on January 21, 1969, his life span was thought to be 10 years. With the care he got at Northern Virginia Center and Allegheny Valley School and, most importantly, the dedication of his Mom who made sure he received the best care and attention he needed, Brian lived to be 44 years old. He was a special young man who lived a special life!
