McLANE DONALD C. "KIP", Jr. Age 61, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Friday, December 12, 2014. He is the son of Phyllis L. Gresmak McLane of Panama City Beach, FL and the late Donald C. McLane, Sr. Kip served many executive positions in banking and finance in the Ohio Valley and Pittsburgh area. Kip was a 1975 graduate of Duquesne University. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his daughter, Catherine L. "Kate" McLane of Steubenville; three brothers, Kerry A. (Candy) of Panama City Beach, FL, Terry A. (Kathy) of Asheville, NC and Jeffry M. of Charleston, SC; one nephew, Kristopher; four nieces, Carissa, Carla, Kelley and Alexandra; and the mother of his daughter, Patricia Dalesio McLane of Steubenville. Kip had a prolific career in basketball at Catholic Central High School, which continued at Duquesne University. He was a member of the Duquesne Alumni Association. Services were held in Steubenville and entombment was at Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, Ohio. SMITH SHEILA ROSLYN (SIMON) Of Penn Hills, age 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, William Smith; and her parents, Max and Marie Simon. She is survived by her brothers, Lee (Janet) Simon and Grant (Cindy) Simon. Sheila was intelligent, artistic, and loved to read. She collected dolls and miniatures. Sheila was a kind soul who loved her pet mice. She also enjoyed fishing with her friend, Dolly. Lee and Janet want to thank the staff at both Golden Living Center, Murrysville and Forbes Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassion. We extend our special thanks to Dolly and Lorraine for the love and assistance they gave to our sister for many years. They have been a blessing. BECKEL SISTER INEZ MARY, SC Sister Inez Mary Beckel, age 102, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, in Greensburg, on December 18, 2014. A native of Altoona, PA, Sister Inez Mary entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1932, from St. Leo Parish in Altoona. Preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Stella (Vaught) Beckel; three brothers, Edwin, Norman, Walter; and two sisters, Regina and Sister Stella Marie Beckel, SC; she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor's degree in piano, a master's degree in music education from Duquesne University, and was a certified librarian. Sister Inez Mary taught elementary school students in the dioceses of Altoona - Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Tucson and the Archdiocese of Washington. After her retirement from the classroom, she volunteered her services at Seton Hill University as a librarian and as sacristan. In reflecting on her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Inez Mary said, "Living religious life in the presence of God is the fullness of joy. May I live in this presence until eternity dawns." KELLY J. CRILLEY Age 67, of Cambridge Park, PA, died on December 18, 2014. J. was an attorney and fiancé of Maureen Vissat and was the husband of the late Terry Curtin Kelly, and son of the late Emmett J. Kelly and Claire Crilley Kelly. He was a graduate of Duquesne University and the Georgetown University Law Center. During his legal career, J. held the positions of assistant corporate secretary of Gulf Oil Corporation; staff attorney of Westinghouse Electric; assistant general counsel of Rockwell International; vice president and senior corporate counsel of Federated Investors; senior counsel of U.S. Steel; and secretary of the U.S. Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund. In 2014, J. was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar. Over the years, J. was affiliated with numerous educational, civic, and cultural organizations. He taught at the Duquesne University Law School, in the MBA programs at the Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh, PA, and the Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL, served as a trustee for St. Francis University, Loretto, PA for over 20 years; was president of the Pennsbury Village Boro Council for eight years, and was a member of the board of advisors of the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. SCHMIDT STAN “THE MAN” Age 77, of Redington Shores, Florida, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, of natural causes. He was one of a kind and he enjoyed his life to its fullest. He was the founder of S.H. Schmidt Company and worked with his family to help grow the business. His greatest times were spent sailing around Deep Creek Lake in his Flying Scott and playing softball with his team “The Gulfport Boomerangs”. He was a graduate of Taylor-Allderdice High School '55, and The University of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, Sarah Laifer Schmidt and Theodore Hertzel Schmidt, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Capets Schmidt; his brother, William Schmidt; and his nephew, Phillip Schmidt. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Jo Schmidt; and his son, Louis Schmidt; his daughter-in-law, Kim; and granddaughter, Hannah Marie Schmidt; stepdaughters, Jessika Strauss and Viki Liscinsky; his nieces, Lauren and Taylor Andrew; and his dog, Roxy. There are no formal funeral arrangements per his request. A Wake and Facebook tribute are in the works. She and her twin sister, Liz were evacuated during the war years to a place in the English countryside where they were cared for until after the war. Margaret migrated to South Africa in 1964 where she worked as a librarian until 1972 when she met and married her late husband, John.
