WEDEEN DOROTHY G. Of Sewickley, PA, died peacefully on November 23, 2014, after a brief illness. Dot is survived by her loving husband, Marvin M. Wedeen; two daughters; and three granddaughters, Cynthia G. Jacobs of Waterville, ME, Elizabeth L. George-Davis of Belmont, MA; Amy E. Davis of Mufumbwe, Zambia, Katherine C. Jacobs of Silver Spring, MD and Margaret L. Davis of Ithaca, NY. Dot lived her life to the fullest in all aspects, known for her energy and enthusiasm. Originally of Schenectady, NY, Dot met and married her first husband, Dr. Philip D. George. After his sudden death in 1983, she bravely pursued her interests in art history and travel. In 2003, Dot found a second wonderful husband in Marvin. Daughters and granddaughters feel Dot was the most supportive, inspiring, and FUN, mother and grandmother one could ask for. Dot worked as a travel agent, and volunteered as museum docent, tour organizer, and fundraiser with The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, NY. The Lake George Opera and the Lucerne Music Center also benefited from her longterm support. While a relatively recent addition to the Sewickley area, Dot quickly immersed herself in a variety of activities. She was a member of Saint James Catholic Church, board member of Woman's Club of Sewickley Valley, Sewickley Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Lifelong Learning at Masonic Village, former Chair, Food Committee at Masonic Village, Sewickley Garden Club, and Friends of Pittsburgh Opera. Please forgive omissions, there are too many to list. Dot loved skiing, tennis, golf, boating on Lake George, and was an avid Bridge player. Dot and Marvin continued to enjoy traveling through this year, cruising to Iceland in June and traveling for a class in international diplomacy in October. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Masonic Village, Sewickley. Arrangements are by RD COPELAND, LTD., of Sewickley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hyde Collection of Glens Falls, NY (www.hydecollection.org), or Sewickley Public Library (sewickleylibrary.org). Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
