GARY STANKEVICH Gary Stankevich, age 61, of Peters Township, son of the late Ray and Betty Jane Stankevich, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 2, 2020, surrounded in love by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 6, 1958, Gary leaves a legacy of love, friendship, and faith that will continue to inspire and comfort his friends and family. For forty-one years, Gary worked at PA American Water, for many years as shop steward and union vice president. Gary was the person everyone came to for advice because of his innate ability to fairly see all sides. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and would always keep people laughing, especially his two sisters. Although he didn't start running until his late 20's, Gary was a natural runner and became well-known and respected in the running community; he loved to push himself—running steeper hills, doing faster splits, and taking crazier routes, always in shorts no matter the weather. An avid Pittsburgh sports fan, Gary loved to attend Penguin games and talk sports. He could fix anything, and he loved his yard, the ocean, the cottage, a good glass of red wine and his pets. But his greatest love was for his wife, soul mate, and best friend, Maureen, inseparable since they met in 1980. Gary's deep faith in God saved him many times in life, and nurtured his resilience, hope, and ability to find beauty in the struggle. He deeply loved life and believed in “Living the Dream”. His earthly race is won and he is now living the dream in eternity. Gary is preceded in death by his in-laws, Jim and Betty Machin and sisters-in-law, Kathy Baldauf and Nancy Haskins. He is survived by his loving, angel, pumpkin pie wife of 37 years, Maureen, who did not leave his side for the entire journey; sisters, Linda (David) Pfister, Patty (Ken) Welsh; cousin, Clara (Matt) Jacob; sisters-in-law, Kathy (John) Quien, Sandy (Larry) Rosenberger, Patty (Chuck) Hosler; brothers-in-law, Eddie Baldauf, James (Dae) Machin, Rick Haskins and many loving nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, visitation and services are private. Arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray 15317, 724-941-3211. Memorial contributions in Gary's name may be sent to Pet Smart Charities, 19601 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85027. Please add or view tributes at www.beinhauer.com. MARTHA W. DOMSKE MARTHA ALICE...

MARTHA W. DOMSKE Martha Alice Weaver was born in Los Angeles while her father Theodore Weaver, with wife Alice Crowe, attended the famous Aimee Semple McPherson Foursquare Gospel School of Ministry at Angelus Temple. Martha was ‘Dedicated to God' by Aimee Semple McPherson herself. The Weavers returned to Pennsylvania within a year and built a home on a small farm on Seik Road in Washington—the same road where Martha would spend 84 of her 89 years on this earth. Martha was the oldest of four children, and learned to work hard on that farm. May 27, 1948 was a momentous day for her, as she not only graduated from Chartiers Township High School at night, but was married that same afternoon to Bill Domske in the living room of Brother Robert Shipp of Central Assembly of God. Soon after first child Renny was born in late 1950, Martha and Bill Domske bought a little farm on Seik Road, just a mile north of her former home, in early 1951, where she spent the rest of her life. Martha Domske had three careers. She was a mother to 5 boys, starting with Renny in 1950, and then Chuck, Bobby, Jess, and Mark finally in 1959. That was always her fulltime and most important job. She attended Penn Commercial and received training as a key punch operator, which she did at Hood Insurance before motherhood. She worked for Best Feeds in the old train terminal on S. Main. She got her Practical Nurse license and worked in various nursing homes in Washington. She even cleaned people's houses to help make ends meet. It takes a lot to feed five hungry boys. Her part-time jobs always worked around her schedule as mother. Martha's second career revolved around college. She worked as a practical nurse and aide at Western State School and Hospital for a decade, finally taking the night shift so she could be at home during the days to care for her boys. Sleep was at a premium. During this time, as her oldest approached college, she got the idea to go to college herself, and began to take courses at California State Teachers College. Studying, cooking, employment, refereeing five boys, transporting them, were almost insurmountable tasks. She groggily succeeded tremendously. Finally in 1969, at age 38, Martha began her third career. She graduated from California with a degree in Special Education and began a 29 year career as a Special Ed teacher in the Pittsburgh City Schools, eventually rising to Head of the Special Ed Department in Pittsburgh, located at South High School. She loved being a teacher of her ‘special' charges. During this time Martha also spent a decade being the primary caregiver to her granddaughter Jessica—her “daughter.” And yet, there was another career that superceded them all. Martha was a worker for God. She helped found ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens) in Washington County. She served on that Board for years. She ran famous “Special Ed Camps” at Jumonville for quite a few summers, and high school students in and around Washington had wonderful experiences being counselors there and caring for these special needs people. Martha helped found FLM (Functional Literacy Ministry) in 1980 with a fellow teacher in Pittsburgh, a continuing ministry to folks in Haiti. One of the joys of her life was going for a weeklong work camp into the mountains of Haiti with FLM. Martha went to the Chartiers-Houston School Board to petition for having Bible Release Time for elementary students. Buses would transport nearly 100 students to Chartiers Cross Roads UP Church one afternoon a week for classes, songs, and special learning times from the Bible. The State Legislature had made this an option for schools and Martha attended multiple School Board meetings to finally get this approved. The Release Time program was quite a successful community project for years. Martha took her membership at Chartiers Cross Roads UP Church quite seriously. She believed she was serving God there. After first being turned down to be an Elder for being “a divorced woman!” she persevered in working as Church Treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher. She eventually served multiple terms as Elder, helping the church through good and bad times. Martha was truly a spiritual leader in that church. Martha W. Domske's humility, perseverance, refusal to give up, prayers for others, piercing singing voice, joy at being in church, feeling responsibility for those weaker or less fortunate, and dedication to God will long be remembered. Martha truly was “dedicated” to the service of God as a newborn infant. That was her true career! Martha W. Domske passed peacefully on to God in her home on Seik Road on September 2, 2020 at age 89. She is already missed. Arrangements by BALL FUNERAL CHAPEL, INC. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

GERALDINE VOGEL ZAJDEL Geraldine Vogel Zajdel, 88, a native of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on September 3, 2020, from complications due to heart failure. She was born on January 16, 1932, to Joseph and Victoria (Horney) Vogel in the Beechview section of the city. She graduated from South Hills High School before marrying Walter Joseph Zajdel in 1952. They were married for over 63 years, until he died in 2015. Walter and Gerry lived in suburban Whitehall for nearly 40 years, before retiring to Lake Worth, Florida in 1990. While in Whitehall, they were members of Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Roman Catholic Church. Gerry lived her last five years at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta, Maine. She is survived by her son, Daniel, and daughter-in-law, Laura, of Boothbay, Maine; her daughter, Heidi Wilson, of Royal Palm Beach, Fl. and her former husband, Mark, of Boynton Beach, Fl.; her daughter, Elizabeth Crampe, and son-in-law, Thomas, of Indian Land, S.C.; and James of Naples, Fl. and his former wife, Patti, of Shelby Twp., Mich. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Zajdel Majewski, her husband Stefan and their son, Noel, Carson Zajdel, Captain Byron Zajdel (U.S. Army Reserves); Paige Wilson, Michael Wilson; Andrea Crampe Braswell and her husband Shawn, and their daughters, Ellie and Lucy; and Jared Zajdel and Hayley Zajdel. Gerry was predeceased by her older brother, Joseph, in 2015. She had a difficult childhood, as her father was killed in an automobile accident before she was born. After her children had grown, she worked for ten years in the ticket office of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Her family remembers Gerry as a caring, loving parent and grandparent who was devoted to rearing her four children. She was an accomplished seamstress, who made many of her daughters' dresses in their youth. Gerry and her mother often read to her children, and were a huge influence on their early education. Gerry's favorite poem, not surprisingly, was "The Reading Mother," by Strickland Gilliam. When living in Whitehall, she enjoyed traveling with her family to Florida during many summers to visit her mother and stepfather, Samuel Mazzari. Gerry was a selfless role model, who was Walter's primary caregiver for seven years after he suffered a series of strokes in 2008. Her family will miss her greatly, but is confident that she now dwells in the House of the Lord. She will be interred alongside Walter at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made online at http://www.pittsburghsymphony.org/give or mailed to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, 600 Penn Avenue, Suite 1, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.
