ERIC FRANZ KNISLEY ERIC FRANZ...

ERIC FRANZ KNISLEY Eric Franz Knisley, born May 30th, 1952, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2020, at VITAS Hospice in Sunrise, FL. He was 68 years old. Eric was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Francis William Knisley and Bernice Teresa Lynch. At Avonworth High School, “Big E” was a sports legend, excelling in football, baseball and basketball, and was chosen to play in Pennsylvania's Big 33 football game - an honor only the best players in the state received. His 809 career basketball points marked him as the 5th-highest-scorer in Antelope history, and he was named MVP in both football and basketball by the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League. Eric attended the University of Pittsburgh on a football scholarship during the Carl DePasqua and Johnny Majors years, where he earned his Bachelors of Art degree in History and Economics. Strong, vital and sometimes larger than life, Eric maintained close relationships with his many Panther friends through present day. Oh, the stories they could tell! It was also at Pitt that Eric met and married his wife Donna; they had three children, of whom Eric was exceedingly proud. Professionally, Eric was a hard-working and determined businessman who produced results and propelled his companies and colleagues forward. He began as a Proctor and Gamble salesman in the 70s, then transitioned into medical devices with an emphasis on surgical endoscopy. He eventually rose to the position of General Manager of Latin American Operations at Olympus, and later became Vice-President/General Manager of North American Operations for Fujinon. He was a respected and treasured friend to many in Japan and Latin America, and inspired a love of these cultures in his family. His many accolades included awards for management, leadership and growth of the divisions he ran, and his colleagues knew Eric as a deft leader with strong opinions and a fierce desire to outperform the competition. Eric was recently blessed with grandchildren, who became the center of his universe. Other loves included the Ft. Lauderdale lifestyle of golfing, boating, fishing, and diving. He treasured the friends in his weekly golf league, and played nearly every Sunday on courses across the state. Though he was a Florida resident through his adult years, Eric was a Pittsburgher born and raised, cheering on his hometown sports teams (go Stillers!) with his daughter, Ilissa. Our Eric valued family above all, and those he leaves behind love him very much. He joins his beloved father, (Frank/Pop) and mother (Bernice/ Barne) in rest. He is survived by his immediate family, Ilissa Duluc (Johan/Ava/Oliver), Evan Knisley (Kathleen/Ellie), Kara Boariu (Nick/Westley/Nikki), Donna Knisley; his sister, Lisa Lockerman (Lloyd/Cassandra/Emily), his brother, Rex Knisley (Dawn/Kyle/Kelly/Alex) and so many others whose hearts he touched over the years. Everyone will miss his big personality, distinctive laugh and engaging smile, but we are so thankful to have had him in our life. In lieu of flowers, a tribute/memorial gift may be made to Pittsburgh's Animal Friends shelter at 526 Camp Horne Road to honor Eric's great love for the family dogs. A celebration of life will be held in 2021: if you would like to be notified of details once they are determined, please email your contact information to: celebrateEFK@gmail.com. VINCENT "JIM" NESE AFTER NEARL...

VINCENT "JIM" NESE After nearly 105 years of an incredible life, Vincent "Jim" Nese humbly embraced his journey to heaven and peacefully passed in his sleep with his two surviving sons by his side. Born October 22, 1915, Jim grew up in Pittsburgh with several siblings. Upon marrying his love, Carmella Collosimo, on May 8, 1943, he established his life in Penn Hills where he lived with his wife for seven decades. Still a newlywed, he entered World War II serving in the Navy as an electrician on the ship Halsey Powell when it was hit by an enemy plane. After the war, he was hired by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as an electrician and worked for the company until his retirement in 1975. Having four sons, Pap was the much beloved patriarch of a very large Italian family that grew to 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He figured prominently at Sunday family gatherings, for he loved watching and, more specifically, debating, all Pittsburgh sports with his sons, oftentimes loudly and vehemently. His love of sports encompassed his grandkids' athletics, and he attended their countless competitions and events. As a grandfather, he demonstrated being a kid at heart, whether playing Pacman on his Atari or swinging on a playset. Even in his later years, Pap was an active man with planting a garden, hitting golf balls in his yard, swimming, and playing pool. Despite his advanced age at several of his grandchildren's weddings, he loved to dance, and he was always the first one to start the Chicken Dance. Honored by both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins on two separate occasions for his military service, Pap found himself on the jumbotron as the fans stood and applauded him. He would say both times that he wasn't a hero, and yet the way he lived his life couldn't be more heroic. Humble of heart and faithful of spirit, he was known for leading his entire family in a rendition of "Jesus Loves Me" at several family gatherings, and everyone sang loudly because that is what Pap wanted. No matter how silly one felt, one sang along because in those moments, that simple message rang true. Faith-filled, Pap lived the message of "loving everyone." For that reason, we do stand and applaud Pap. He lived a life of hope, and that hope is his legacy to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Carmella and two sons Jimmy and Joe Nese as well as his several siblings. He is survived by his brother Robert "Bo" Nese and his sons, Richard (Liz) Nese and Paul (Randa) Nese as well as his daughters-in-law, Linda Nese and Deborah Nese, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends received, Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES, LTD./ROTH CHAPEL, 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road), Penn Hills, where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Due to COVID-19 and present restrictions on gatherings, guests attending visitation may be asked to wait to enter the building. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hazelwood. Given Pap's intensive study of the Bible, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a bible-based church of one's choice. TRES FIREWICZ Our hearts are sad (broken) at the sudden loss of our sister Tres Firewicz, born Terri Lee Demel, to deceased parents Dorothy (Vernau) and Stephen Demel, on the morning of Friday, August 28, 2020. Tres lost her life to heart disease, having suffered several strokes over the past few years. Despite the slower pace she was forced to take, Tres looked forward to building a new home and future in North Carolina. She is survived by her husband, Jan Firewicz, their son David, his wife Kristin and grandson Daniel. Tres was born the sixth child of 13 that Dorothy bore. Eight siblings survive Tres: Janet Deritis, Christie Krebs, Stephen (Helene) Demel, Cindy (Pat) Cavanaugh, Darla (Mark Cholewski) Eisel, Timothy Demel, Michael Demel and Verna Demel. Lost earlier were Donna Self, Fred Demel, Charlene Demel and Charles “Chuck” “Chas” Demel. Tres loved to travel. As much as countryside drives to small market shopping, she traveled throughout the United States and to Europe. She and her sisters loved junking, finding bargains along the way. Tres had a love of art, good friends and great food. We'll all miss the Cucumber Party Sandwiches she prepared for family events - simple, yet elegant. We hope she's sharing some now with those who left before us. Another hole in our hearts for one of our very much loved siblings, may she now be at peace. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Parish, Holy Angels site in Hays. The family requests donations be made to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (pittsburghfoodbank.org). Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

JOHN CLARK BUSSE Age 80, of Ben Avon, peacefully on August 31, 2020, surrounded by family. Preceded by his loving wife of 54 years, Magdeline Pogozelec Busse; father of Amelia Busse Cheever (Eric), John Paul Busse, Claire Marie Busse (Jack Tabor), Emily Busse Schwartz (Kevin), grandfather “Pap” of Abigail, Kristen, Fiona, Ramsey, Phoebe, Cyrus; beloved brother of Arlene (Alfred) Grubbs, and Dorothy (Lawrence) Pollack; brother-in-law of Dorothy Pogozelec; loved by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many honorary children who needed a place to stay. John was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in The Building Sciences; member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; and, for over 30 years, President of F.J. Busse Co., Inc., a family business started by his Grandfather in 1926. Many Pittsburgh landmarks were built under his supervision including the Mt. Washington Overlook, the Point State Park Fountain and numerous churches and schools. John spent his life serving his profession and community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania, a Laborers' Pension Fund Trustee, an American Arbitration Association Arbiter, a member of the City of Pittsburgh Code Review Board, Councilman for the Ben Avon Borough Council, and member of the Tri Borough Planning Commission. His leadership roles during his lifetime included serving as the President for the General Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania, the Master Builder's Association of Western Pennsylvania's' Legislative Committee Chairman, President of the Pittsburgh Jaycees, and co-chairing the Ben Avon Bicentennial Committee with his wife, Maggie. John was a devout Catholic and belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Emsworth, where he was a member of the Choir and Church Finance Committee. John was a tried and true Pittsburgh Steeler fan and season ticket holder for 50 years. He was a kind and generous man who would do all that he could to help you if you were in need. He was devoted to his wife as Alzheimer's slowly stole her away from him. He was stubborn and loved a spirited argument, his preferred position was opposition and he was most himself when operating from that stance. John had a biting humor combined with a brilliant mind and wide-ranging curiosity making him a master storyteller, even if you heard his tales one too many times. He shared his love of music with his family and his beautiful singing voice with his church. He loved spending time with friends and family and entertaining with Maggie, opening their home so that all felt welcome. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all that crossed his path. Burial services were private. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John's memory to one of the following organizations- Alzheimer Disease Research Center, (University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Montefiore, Four West, 200 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-2582), Sacred Heart Church, (154 Orchard Avenue, Emsworth, PA 15202) or Joseph A.
