KAREN DIANN MORSE (SHELBY) "DI" Karen Diann “Di” Morse (Shelby) of Sewickley passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, March 30th, 2020. Diann fought a long battle with lung cancer, but was eventually overcome by the disease at age 62. Diann was born on September 30th, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from North Allegheny High School in 1975 and married her high school sweetheart James Daniel Morse two years later. They were happily married for 41 years. Diann was a devoted spouse and loving mother to her two children. She was actively involved in their schooling and sports for many years. Diann was an avid reader and a longtime participant in many book groups. She also loved needlepoint, interior design, and the creative arts. She loved traveling with her husband to visit friends across the country. Diann lived a full and happy life and will be remembered for her vibrant personality and quick-witted humor. She had the uncanny ability to make meaningful connections with everyone she met. Diann is survived by her husband, James; two children, Amy McConnell (Ian) and Alexander Morse (Lindsay); four grandchildren, Bowen, Ellie, Noah and Zoe; her siblings, David Shelby, Patrick Connelly, Karen Pryser, Kevin Connelly, and Janet Hreha, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and close friends. Due to the restrictions on gathering, there will not be a funeral service at this time. However, the family hopes to have a memorial service at some point in the coming months at Sewickley Presbyterian Church. CARMEN LEFFLER Age 96, of Export, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Family Hospice in Pittsburgh. She was born April 3, 1924, in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Samuel W. and Ana Goiri Bush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy C. Leffler and a sister, Mary Hart. Carmen was a member of St. John Baptist De La Salle Church in Delmont. Prior to retirement, she was a phone operator for United Telephone Company in Warsaw, IN. She was also a member of the Veterans Breakfast Club and worked at Rite Aid in Delmont. Carmen is survived by four children, Ann (Brent) Harder, Jane Leffler, Deborah Selanders and Michele (William) Whitcroft; eight grandchildren, Brandi, Jason, Shane, Stacy, Matt, Leah, Liz and Stephanie. Visitation 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the HART FUNERAL HOME, INC., Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. John Baptist De La Salle Church, Delmont. MICHAEL B. DIVEN A “Brookliner,” currently residing in Mount Lebanon, on Tuesday, August 18, after a long battle with cancer. Son of the late Joseph R., Sr. and Barbara E. Diven. Beloved husband of Shannon (Donovan); loving father of Rory, Casey and Elizabeth; dearest brother of Joseph R., Jr.; brother-in-law of Marcy; uncle of Josh, Desiree, Jordan, Joey and Jamie. A graduate of Brashear High School, Michael furthered his football career at East Carolina University and finished football and earned his degree at Duquesne University. He served as staff assistant to Commissioner Tom Foerster following graduation. Michael began his own political career as the then youngest elected member of Pittsburgh City Council at age 27 and eventually served the constituents of the 22nd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. After his political career Michael's love of boxing drove him to form relationships with international boxing clubs. He created the Donnybrook boxing event, a match between Pittsburgh boxers and the Drimnagh Boxing Club in Ireland, followed by Pittsburgh versus Italy and the historic Battle on the Bridge between Pittsburgh and Cuba. Michael's biggest accomplishment was building a family with his wife of 15 years, Shannon. Rory, Casey and Elizabeth were blessed to share their father's love of life and sense of humor. MARY GRACE (ALFONSI) GABRIEL Was born in her Italian immigrant parents' home in West Mifflin in 1930. Mary began her education in a one room schoolhouse on New England Hollow Road and completed it at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a master's degree in education. Mary retired from the Steel Valley School District as a reading specialist. She avidly followed politics and thoroughly enjoyed working at her local polling place in retirement. Mary was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church and served as a eucharistic minister. She was a lively conversationalist and a staunch advocate for education. Mary was the daughter of Giosafatte and Felicia Alfonsi. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Anthony Gabriel, as well as brothers, Martin, Jack, Tony and Thomas; and sister, Eleanor Ficorilli. She leaves to celebrate her life her children, Gary (Sandy) Gabriel, Patricia (Arthur) McAuley, Marcia (the late Michael) Fox, and Maria (Francis) Scapellato. Mary adored her nine grandchildren, Nicole, Erika, Eleanor, Virginia, Natalie, Mary Kate, Gabriel, Nicholas and Joseph; and also her nine great-grandchildren. JACK "JAKE" HODAK On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, Jack (Jake) Hodak, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 89. Jake was born May 28, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Barbara and Jacob Hodak. He served in the Army. Jake was a collector of tools and gadgets. He loved sitting in his recliner and watching old western movies. Jake loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jake was preceded in death by his father, Jacob; his mother, Barbara; his brothers, Tony, Pete and Mike; and sisters, Mary and Betty. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his two children, Stacy (George) Geraci and Douglas Hodak; his grandchildren, Sarah (Matthew) Pittman, Joseph (Lindsay) Geraci, Ashley Vasellas, Kristie Hodak, and Douglas Hodak; his four great-grandchildren and three on the way. THERESA "TERRY" (MOSSO) DiPALMA Of Forest Hills, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Beloved wife of John Pantlik for 34 years and John DiPalma for 23 years. Loving mother of Karen Vance (Joe), Bonnie Pantlik (Al Macchioni), and Diane Giever (Dennis). Proud grandmother of Rebecca, John, Danielle, and Desirae; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents, Peter and Anna (née Perucca) Mosso; her brothers, Anthony and Marion; and her sisters, Louise Stefanacci, Anna Wence, and Emma Burrer. Terry was born in Hahntown, PA, in 1924. One of the happiest days of her life was the day she moved to Forest Hills where she resided all of her married life. She worked as a Secretary before and after she was married until her retirement from the Churchill Area School District. Her love of children and reading shone through when she worked at the Forest Hills Junior High School library until she retired in 1984. Her family would like to thank all the staff at the LGAR Health and Rehab Center who cared for her during the final stage of her life. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a future date. Terry will be laid to rest at Church Hill Cemetery. Burial will be private. HARRY H. EDGAR, JR Of Fuquay-Varina, NC, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Born November 1, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA. Son of the late Harry H. Edgar, Sr. and Anne (Hodgson) Edgar. Harry was a graduate of Clairton High School, class of 1952. On June 26, 1953, Harry married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jean Pittman. Harry began his retail career at Edgar Men's Store in Clairton. In 1961, Harry began working for Lerner Corporation until his retirement as a Senior Vice President in 1985. In October, 1985, Harry opened two franchise locations of The Maids International. He opened three more locations in Pittsburgh and was awarded the 1989 franchise of the year award at Maids Intl in Omaha Nebraska. In June 1998, Harry and Mary Jean retired to Sun City in Hilton Head. They enjoyed golf, new friends, traveling and visits from their family. After 48 years of love, laughter, joys and sorrow, Mary Jean passed away on March 11, 2002. Harry was blessed to marry Patti Ballard on February 28, 2004. They shared 16 wonderful years of love, golf, travel, family visits and residing in new cities. Upon Harry's diagnosis with leukemia, Patti tenderly cared for Harry with her most dedicated, loving and compassionate spirit until he drew his last breath. Harry was the loving brother of Linda (Pete) McCormick; devoted father of Candi (Greg) Bauer (of Ormond Beach, FL) and Mark (Denise) Edgar (of Canonsburg, PA); stepfather of Debbie (Edward, II) Koharik, Jim (Donna) Perkins, Dan (Laura) Perkins; loving grandfather of Rene (Kevin) Worley, Sarah (Jimmy) Curran, Allison (Dan) Cybulski, Alex (Emma) Edgar and Sean Edgar; great-grandfather of six. JOHN W. ADAMS "BUD" Age 90, of Cecil Twp., died on August 18, 2020. He was born on May 31, 1930, in Cecil. A son of the late John and Barbara Murgel Adams. On June 2, 1956, he married Joan Waldau Adams, who died on November 8, 1990. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Teamsters Local #341 and a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, Cecil. He was also a member of the Cecil American Legion, Post #793 and the McDonald/Cecil Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed bowling and auto racing. Surviving are three children, John R. ANNA MAY (ZAKEN) JANICKI Age 90, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2020. Anna May was born on May 22nd, 1930, in Elizabeth, PA. The beloved wife of the late Daniel Janicki was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Zaken; her brothers, Michael (Margaret), George (Mary), and John (Mary), sister Julie (Victor) Spernak, all of Elizabeth, PA; and daughter, Debra Suckell Neander. She leaves behind her sister, Janet (Fred) Rethage, and sons, Edward Suckell of Elizabeth, PA and Vincent (Fawn) and Scott Suckell of Port Orange, Florida, whom most recently passed; grandchildren, April Rahner Neander and Kimberly (Robert) Schoembs; along with four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, will all miss her infectious smile. She lived the first half of her life in Elizabeth, PA and moved to Florida, where she became a local artist. She enjoyed painting, swimming, entertaining, going to church, playing bingo and watching Jeopardy. She loved to polka dance and was always the life of the party. WAYNE HARRY HELLER, SR. Passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. He was 81 and lived in Blawnox, PA, with his beloved partner, Helen Swegard and his dog, Delaney. Loving father of Carlene (Ike), Rene (Doug), and Michael and the late Wayne (survived by Shirley); Grandpap to Krystal, Mike, Bryan, Kurt, Kyle, Samantha, Taylor, Deacon and Mallory; Great-Grandpap to Mallory, Jonathan, Dominic and Isabelle; son of the late Lawrence and Frances (Hazen) Heller. Wayne served four years in the US Army. He spent many years in the automotive field doing auto body and repairs. He loved going with his buddies to Canfield, Ohio parts meet a couple times a year, “clown”ing around and cracking jokes, making others laugh, playing tricks on people… just being with his friends and family made him happy. He spent the last few years with his love, Helen, whom he adored. He had a serious sweet tooth, so the next time you enjoy a chocolate chip cookie…think of him. No service will be held.
