LEONARD GONNELLA Age 62, of Penn Hills, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Beloved son of Mildred and the late John Gonnella. Dear father of Briana Gonnella. Brother of Joseph Gonnella and Anthony (Michele) Gonnella. Uncle of Gabrielle. No visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Mother of Good Counsel Church, St. Mary Magdalene Parish on Saturday at 10 a.m. Leonard was a skilled bricklayer who worked side by side with his father for many years. He could always be counted on to do side jobs, big and small. He had a love for Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Christmas music. He loved watching football and basketball, whether it be professional, college, or high school. He loved a good meal, whether it be his mother's pasta on Sunday or prime rib at Longhorn's for every celebration. He was loved by his family and the many friends who could always count on him to make them laugh or debate (he was always right). ROBERT R. LEIGHT "BUBBA" Unexpectedly, on Sunday, July 26, 2020, age 68, of Franklin Park. Son of the late Ruth (Fichter) and Robert A. Leight; beloved husband of Kathleen Hayes-Leight; also survived by his uncle, Joseph Seserko; several brothers and sister-in-law; nieces and nephews; dear cousins and friends. Bob loved his golden retrievers and is survived by loving canine companions, Camo and Claire. He graduated from North Catholic High School in 1969 and served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972. A 1976 graduate of Duquesne University, he earned his law degree from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1981. He was employed as Detective and Assistant District Attorney for Allegheny County from 1977 to 1982, served as Supervisory Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1982 to 1989, was Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1989 to 1993. He was a partner at Pietragallo, Gordon, Alfano, Bosick & Raspanti from 1993 to 2017. Bob was a Member of the law firm Spilman, Thomas and Battle, Pittsburgh Office from 2017. He was a member of the American, Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and Federal Bar Associations. Bob was an adjunct Professor, LaRoche University, Justice, Law and Security Department, teaching Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure from 2002 to present. Friends received Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 460 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue (face masks required). LAWRENCE MICHAEL PASQUINELLI "BIG LAR" Lawrence “Big Lar” Michael Pasquinelli died at the age of 91 on July 27, 2020, from respiratory failure in his sleep. Larry served in the United States Army and was a verteran of the Korean War. Big Lar worked at Gimbels department store in Pittsburgh, PA for over 25 years. He started out working in the stock room and over time, was promoted to a Divisional for the department store. Big Lar was predeceased by his loving wife, Joanne and his parents, Emilio and Angelina Pasquinelli. He is survived by his brother, Louis Pasquinelli, sons, Lawrence M. Pasquinelli, II and Michael L. Pasquinelli; his daughter-in-law, Dawn; his “adopted son,” James Affeldt, and grandchildren, Zachary, Maxwell and Jaden Eliza. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marianne (Honey) Ellenberger and Carole Rozanski, brother-in-law, Joseph W. Rozanski, Dr. Hank Payan and favorite nephews/nieces, Larry, Lou, Luanne, Debbie, Dale, Niecie, Rhonda, Joe and GiGi. He also had many favorite great-nieces and nephews and even more great-great-nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank the staff at Shelbourne Personal Care and Paula Martin for their care and support for him over the years. He held several positions in the FOP and was active in the Emerald Society. She was a graduate of North Hills High School in 1981, and received her BA from the University of North Florida in 1986. Kathy was a tennis fanatic, she enjoyed to play, and loved to coach. Kathy dedicated over 20 years of her life, teaching the wonderful game at St. Andrews Club of Severna Park, Chartwell Golf & Country Club of Severna Park, Severna Park High School, L'Hirondale Club of Ruxton, and most recently the Germantown Cricket Club of Philadelphia. RICHARD P. MELLON Age 81, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania died Monday night, July 27, after a prolonged illness, while visiting his summer home on Cousins Island, Maine. Mr. Mellon was born May 19, 1939, and was the eldest son of the late General Richard King Mellon and Constance Prosser Mellon. He was a lifelong resident of Ligonier where he attended Valley School of Ligonier for his primary years. Mr. Mellon graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, attended the University of Pittsburgh, and later proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge as a first Lieutenant. Following his service, he was employed at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. He was an ardent outdoorsman and conservationist who had an enduring love for the natural environment. His adventures with family and friends—including time spent hunting and boating in Alaska, Georgia, Cape Cod, and Maine—were among the greatest joys in his life. Mr. Mellon, a lifelong philanthropist, will be remembered as a true gentleman with a remarkable sense of humor and a passion for reading. His kindness and generosity were hallmarks of his leadership at the Richard King Mellon Foundation where he served as Board President and later Chairrnan. He retired from the Board in 2010 and remained an active Emeritus member thereafter. In addition to his wife, Kathryn Dybdal, he is survived by his sons, Richard Adams and Armour Kegley (Sophie); two grandchildren, Henry and Louise; his sister, Cassandra lvlilbury (Morley); and his brother, Seward Prosser (Sandy) all residents of Ligonier, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his sister, Constance Barber Mellon. He was devoted to his step-daughter, Shrevie Sheppard (James), and their three children. Mr. Mellon was a member and longtime Governor of Rolling Rock Club, Ligonier, a member of the Quissett Yacht Club, Falmouth, Massachusetts; and a member of the Lyford Cay Club, Nassau, Bahamas. He was an Episcopalian and a member of St. Michaels of the Valley, Rector, Pennsylvania. A family service will be held with the Rev. Dr. James B. Simons officiating. ELLEN EDITH ROBERTS Age 95 of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2020. Ellen was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 25, 1925. She graduated from Allderdice High School. Ellen was married to Robert Roberts on February 6, 1944, they were married 75 years. Ellen worked in sales for J. C. Penny, while Robert was serving during World War II. After the war she worked in the law offices of her uncles, Ben and Harry Rosen. Her greatest joy, though, was the raising of her children. Ellen is survived by her son, Joel (Marsha) Roberts, daughter, Rhonda George; granddaughter, Samantha (Jonathan) Major; granddaughter, Jaime Roberts; great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, and Micah Major, Raya and Tabitha Stern. RUTH M. HENRY June 10, 1924 - July 28, 2020 Ruth M. Henry passed away peacefully on July 28, 2020, at 96 years old. Born in Pittsburgh to the late Frieda P. and Edward J. Maier on June 10, 1924. She lived in Mt. Lebanon most of her life. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School. She married E. Blair Henry, Jr. in 1943 and spent the next two years traveling with him to Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts while he served in the Army during World War II. She treasured the many lifelong friendships she made during the Army days. After the war, Ruth and Blair returned to Mt. Lebanon to raise their two children. Ruth's life was centered around her family. Her generous spirit, quick wit, and engaging smile helped her to make friends with everyone she met. She lived in the same house for 70 years, and always had an open door and welcoming heart. In the summer, she loved to sit and visit with neighbors (and their dogs) on her front porch. She had a compassionate heart and always looked out for the smallest of creatures, especially delighting in the squirrels and birds who came to her window for treats. Always adventurous, Ruth made wonderful memories traveling around the world. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda (Paul) Champanier of Olivebridge, NY, and her devoted son, Richard (Robin) Henry; six beloved grandchildren, Ellyn (Joe Bonomo) Stewart of Stamford, CT, Emily (Nataraja) Kallio of Boulder, CO, Edward (Sandra) Stewart of Stamford, CT, Courtney (Andrew) Gralnek of Arlington, VA; Rebecca Henry of Carnegie, PA; and Amanda (Brian) Tokarski of Gainesville, VA; and eight cherished great-grandchildren, Isabella, Natasha, Clara, Anjali, Camila, Savi, Ethan, and Emma. MARTIN J. MADIGAN, JR. On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, beloved husband of Deborah L. Madigan; proud father of Ryan Martin Madigan; brother of Peggy Cooney (Robert), Martina Allison (Fred), Patrick Madigan (Connie), Michael Madigan (Kathy) and the late Mary Haggerty; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in 1954 and raised in Oakland, Marty was a longtime Division Manager of the Wills/Orphans Division of the Allegheny County Department of Court Records until his retirement in 2011. Extremely well known in political circles, Marty was a former Democratic Ward Chairman in both Oakland and then Hampton Township. A leader in the Irish community, Marty was the former Pennsylvania State President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as Oakland Irish AOH Division Number 9, and was the current President of the Irish Society for Education and Charities, which is a parent organization of the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade. In 2015, Marty was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade. A true gentleman, with a big personality and even larger sense of humor, Marty was always quick with a joke and was always willing to help a friend, whatever the circumstance. In spite of all of his accomplishments in life, it was his wife's designation for Marty as “The Trophy Husband” that he was the proudest. In his retirement, Marty embraced travel and enjoyed trips to Ireland, the Eastern Mediterranean, Alaska, as well as Florida, the Caribbean and the Outer Banks. Marty will be sadly missed by his friends and family and the world now has another Irish Angel looking down from above. Friends will be received at JOHN A. EUGENE C. "GENE" MARTIN III Age 83, of Bethel Park, departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clara B. (Kratz) Martin on August 13, 1997. He is survived by his children, Barbara E. Taylor, Suzanne M. Martin-Cooper (Jim), Eugene C. Martin IV (Jessica) and special friend Marcia Agnelly; also five grandchildren, Martin E. Taylor, Clarice E. Taylor, Drew Z. Cooper, Ashlyn T. Cooper, and Adam L. Cooper; his sisters, Mary Ann Leonard and V. Lynne Martin-Huber (Fred); also numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Gene spent 45 years in the operation of the family business: Martin's Auto Service in the West End. He was a leader in Sea Scouting for years. He served his churches, Pilgrim, Our Savior and Peace Lutheran holding almost every office at one time or another. Also active in Walther League. He served in the US Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966 as a Sergeant. Service will be private. The service will be live streamed on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at https://www.peacelutheranpgh.org/live/.
