Barb was a proud, loving grandmother, mother and wife and was proud of the time she worked as an executive secretary at Alcoa Corporation. Barb could be thought of as reserved for those that did not know her, but in truth, she had an adventurous soul. She was known to brave rollercoasters and thumb a ride in her younger days. Barb never discouraged her children and grandchildren from this same spirited outlook of life. She had a true knack for conversation and enjoyed a good philosophical discussion. Barb was an unconventional thinker and passed down to her children and grandchildren the wisdom of using your imagination and thinking outside of the box and to never pass-up the simple pleasure of sharing a banana flavored popsicle on a hot summer day with someone you love. MILDRED C. HIXON Age 100, of Port Richey, FL, recently passed away on May 5, 2020, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hixon. Born October 27, 1919, and raised in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She resided in Valencia, PA prior to re-locating to Florida in 1982. Mildred was a member of the First Methodist church of Hudson, FL where she had been a longtime choir member and served as secretary of the administrative board for the church. Mildred was a real estate broker and worked for the Agnes R. Nicklas Agency in Valencia, PA for 23 years before retiring to Florida. She was a member of the Butler County Board of Realtors. She served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the board from 1968 to 1972 until elected President of the Butler County Board of Realtors. She was also named to the executive officer's council of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers for the state of Pennsylvania. She is a past president of the Women's Club of Southern Butler County and served a two-year term as the financial chairman of the Butler County Federation of Women's Clubs. Her success in the Real Estate community was rewarded by being named to "Who's Who of American Women" for 1971-72. She is survived by her daughter, Carole McWilliams of Germantown, MD; three grandchildren, David McWilliams (Cindi) of Gibsonia, PA, Scott McWilliams (Kimberly) of Gaithersburg, MD and Marcy Collins (Doy) of Medina, OH; seven great-grandchildren; Daniel, Tyler, Brett, Savannah, Morgan, Gabrielle and Taylor. (Dugas) Conway; dear brother of Laurie (Joshua May) Conway; grandson of Jean (late Daniel G.) Conway and Jean (late Donald Joseph) Dugas; son-in-law of Theodore (Tonni) Saganis; sister-in-law to Aleah (Joseph) Streiff. Chris attended Chartiers Valley High School (2004-2008) and Robert Morris University on full academic scholarship. He wanted to work in the medical field to spend his life helping others. In 2018, he joined the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and became a firefighter and EMT for the city he loved. Chris proudly served the city from Engine 20 in Hays. His family and friends felt that he was made to be a firefighter because of his physical strength, medical knowledge, and compassion. Chris had a wide variety of interests and talents, and he excelled at everything he attempted. He loved playing sports, including football, hockey, golf, track & field, pickleball, and skateboarding. With a natural musical talent, he played saxophone, guitar, and sang beautifully. Chris was also brilliant academically; he spent much time contemplating philosophy, religion, rhetoric, physics, and morality. Being a new homeowner, Chris enjoyed creative home projects, building furniture, and other wood working. He and his wife were always pleased to host parties and dinners at their home; being surrounded by friends and family brought Chris joy. Chris had an honest, selfless, gentle spirit full of caring. He loved all animals, and animals always loved him. He was truly devoted to his Siberian Husky, Samson, who was his pride and joy. Chris had rock solid values and knew what was important in life. Claire was born October 31, 1931, in Carrick, PA. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Stella Fiedler, sister to the late Robert, Norma, Howard and Albert. Saint Claire as her siblings often called her, attended St. Basil High School where she was regularly pulled from classes to either teach fellow students or do the artwork for the yearbook. This is also where she met the love of her life, Ralph G. Wesling. They had a love story of 65 years, the likes of which not many shared. Claire was an active member and Eucharistic minister of St. Albert the Great Church. She also was a volunteer librarian at the school for many years. After raising her children, she took a part-time job at Coldcomp as a receptionist until she retired. She was a loving and caring mother for her children, a beloved grandmother and community volunteer. Claire Bear is survived by her husband, Ralph Wesling; daughters, Kathy (Kevin) Smith and Janet (Paul) Hensler; sons, Ralph H. (Heather) and James G. KEVIN KURPECKY Beloved Brother, Son, and Uncle passed on July 8, 2020 at the age of 52. Kevin is survived by his loving sister, Tamara (Michael) Nelson; nieces and nephew, Nicole (Christian) Scherer, Jennifer, and Dylan Nelson; great-nephews, Arden and Cullen Scherer, and great-nieces, Autumn and Claire Nelson. He is also survived by several cousins and many friends. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Richard and Barbara (Korem) Kurpecky; and nephew/Godson, Michael Nelson. Kevin loved learning about history and passing that knowledge onto others. He lead a life of service working for both the Woodland Hills and Penn Hills School Districts where he taught students who were homebound due to long term illness, injury or other reasons. Kevin even took his service elsewhere as a volunteer, participating in rescue and clean-up efforts in New York City after 9/11 and teaching blind children how to ski through the Lions Club of Deep Creek. Kevin frequently traveled throughout the country to see all the beautiful scenery it had to offer, explore different trains and railways, and attend sporting events and concerts. Kevin loved the Rolling Stones and was a Pittsburgh sports fan. He made his acting debut as a featured actor in a commercial for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kevin enjoyed the outdoors and frequently went skiing, canoeing, and on long bike rides. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them. He was a loving cousin to James (godfather) and Thomas Biden, Jacob Acevedo. He was the grandson of the late John and Louise (Petrow) Salopek and Susanna (McNally) and Victor Costantini. He was loved by so many who hold him dear in their hearts. Christopher attended Seneca Valley HS. He graduated from PSU in 2003 with a BS in Computer Science. He worked as a software engineer at Omnicell in Cranberry Twp. Christopher loved his family, the Penguins, the Steelers, Premier League Soccer, music, and the beach. A good book and his feet in the sand made him happy and at peace. He was funny and sweet and gentle and possessed many special gifts, his beautiful smile being one of them. EDWARD CHEPPA Of Churchill, age 95, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. He was born in Freeland, PA, on July 4, 1925, to John and Elizabeth (Capinas) Cheppa. Edward attended Freeland High School class of 1943 and was accepted into the US Navy V-12 program which provided a full scholarship to attend the University of Virginia where he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was a commissioned officer in the Navy and served 3 years on the USS Crescent City and other ships. After the service, Edward worked as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse. He met his wife, Anna, on a bus traveling to Pittsburgh and they were married on July 22, 1950. He drew the blueprints and built a house in Churchill. Edward loved his terraced backyard where he planted fruit trees and enjoyed it everyday. He was loved and will be missed by many. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Anna (Bdzil) Cheppa; three children, Dr. Edward S. Cheppa (Jean B.), Marla Patrick (Greg), and Barbara Cheppa (William F. Scialabba); four grandchildren, Dr. Brandon M. Cheppa, Alexandra K. Cheppa, Elias S. Patrick, and Marissa A. Patrick; sister Alice Danko (the late Joseph); and many nieces and nephews. MARY K. MOORE CANO Unexpectedly, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Mary K. (Cleary) Moore Cano, age 85, of South Park. Beloved wife of Thomas J. Cano and the late Russell W. Moore; loving mother of Michele (Don) Tomlins, of Venetia, Mona (Neal) Musser, of Nottingham, Carrie (Dale) Morgele, of Jefferson Hills, and Russell "Rusty" (Molly) Moore, of South Park; devoted grandmother of 10 and cherished great-grandmother of 14; sister of the late William Cleary, Mona Riggs, Robert Cleary, Bette Fischer and Donny Cleary; also survived by many nieces and nephews; beloved sister-in-law to Marlene and Jerry Dingman, of Michigan, and Herman Skerlong, of Bethel Park. Mary was a secretary at South Park School District for 27 years, a board member of the South Park Historical Society, and a member of the Nativity Church Choir. Mary was a loving and caring person to everyone she met. She was a wonderful friend to so many and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
