She continued her education and was graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing, class of 1963. Carmela worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital until her retirement. She especially enjoyed spending time with and watching over her grandchildren. Carmela also very much liked spending time and traveling with her close friends. GARY RAYMOND D'ORAZIO Of Forest Hills, age 70, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020, following a brief illness. His final days were spent surrounded by family, reminiscing and watching classic movies. Gary was born on August 25, 1949 in Pittsburgh to the late Orlando Raymond Ray and Angeline Mary Mary (D'Alfonso) D'Orazio. Beloved brother to Josephine Joanne (Frank) Bednarofsky of North Huntingdon Cherished uncle to Sara Bednarofsky of North Huntingdon and Mark (Trish) Bednarofsky of Manor. Loved Great-Uncle to Joseph and Logan. Gary attended St. Maurice Grade School, starting a lifelong membership and connection to his parish family. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 90 of Forest Hills, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a 1968 graduate of Churchill High school, where he was an honor student and member of the football team. He was a 1972 graduate of Penn State where he studied industrial engineering and was a Resident assistant. After employment in Venezuela for two years, he returned the Unite States to enlist in the Army. Gary was always known to be a helper. Much of his professional life was in the service industry before retiring to become a caretaker for his parents. Friends are welcome on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. JOHN HENRY SMITH John Henry Smith of Whitehall, PA passed away on Saturday morning, February 29, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Audrey A. Smith and his two sons Robert and Brian Smith. He was born in Donora, PA on August 26, 1934 to the late Henry Ward and Martha Smith. John was a veteran of the Air Force and a graduate of Waynesburg College. John spent much of his career working in the Insurance Industry as an underwriter, sales person and later as President of Allegheny Professional Insurance Agency where he retired in 2014. He was also an avid member of the Brentwood Baldwin Whitehall Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church. He met his wife Audrey in Dormont, PA at the Insurance Company of North America (INA) in the early 1960s. He loved to golf and spend time with his wife and family, often traveling to visit his two sons. He enjoyed spending time in the summers vacationing with his family in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Bobby and Delaney in Havre de Grace, MD. John is survived by his loving children; Robert and his wife Tracie Smith of Havre de Grace, MD and Brian Smith of Morgantown, PA. He was the devoted grandfather of two grandchildren: Bobby and Delaney Smith. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his brother Ward. He went to work for Firestone becoming a store manager/owner where he worked for over 34 years. He then went to work for Pep Boys as a salesman working for 25 years. Frank was a member of St Victor R.C. Church. He enjoyed gardening though he loved spending time with his family. DR. ROSEMARIE E. CIBIK Dr. Rosemarie E. Cibik, a pioneer in the field of education, died February 28, 2020. Rosemarie was born on December 2, 1923 to Domenico (Thomas) Scavariello and Elizabeth Ziviello Scavariello. A member of McKeesport High School's championship debate team and valedictorian of her graduating class, Rosemarie earned a scholarship to attend the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master Degree in Education. While at Pitt, she met her now deceased husband, Dr. Edward P. Cibik, Jr., also a career educator. They married on June 15, 1955. At the age of 26, she became the Principal of Robinson Township High School, which later became Montour Junior-Senior High School. With the unwavering support of her husband, she later went on to earn her Doctorate in Education before becoming the Superintendent of Baldwin-Whitehall School District, making her the second female superintendent in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (and the first in Allegheny County). In 1992, she became the first laywoman ever appointed Secretary for Education of a Catholic Diocese. Rosemarie also had various positions at Point Park University, including Chairman of the Department of Education and Professor. Her many accolades include being a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania, Carlow College's Woman of Spirit, Pittsburgh Woman of the Year in Education, Duquesne University's Distinguished Service Award, and the National School Boards Association's One Hundred of North America's Top School Executives. In Rosemarie's opinion, however, her greatest accomplishment was her two successful daughters, Lisa M. Cibik, MD, FACS (married to Bernard J. Kobosky, Jr.), President of Associates in Ophthalmology (AIO) and Medical Director of AIO's Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Melanie S. Cibik, Esq., Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated. She also bragged about her granddaughter, Alexandra M. Good, Esq. (married to Brian S. Linville), an associate attorney at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, and her eight-year-old grandson, Edward Domenico (Dino) Cibik, a police car enthusiast and a LEGO Master apprentice. JANET FLORENCE RAGER SHOWERS Passed away on February 29, 2020, at the age of 95, at her home in Plum, PA, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Clintondale, PA. She was the oldest child of Henrietta Shollenberger Rager and Oscar D. Rager. She was predeceased by both of her younger siblings, Sheila and Bill, as well as her parents. Janet married Max Showers, a WWII veteran, of Lamar, PA in 1946 and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his death in 1996. They raised, and she is survived by four daughters, Eileen Milakovic (Conrad Sugrue) of Pittsburgh, Jann (Don) Miller of Lake Worth, FL, Lou Ann (John) Bigelow of Pulaski, NY, and Carolyn (Chuck) Baker of Vandergrift, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Danny (Bekah) and Maxx-Anne Miller, Cortney and Jonathon (Jill) Bigelow, Laurel (Jake) Smail, and Kari (Andrew) Kubacki and seven adored great-grandchildren who have been the light of her later years. In her late 80's Janet moved from Lewistown, PA, where the family had lived since 1967, to Plum, PA, to be near her family. She enjoyed life as a snow bird wintering with her daughter Jann in Florida for nearly 20 years. Janet was an active member of Trinity Tower United Methodist Church in Penn Hills after her move, and prior to that was involved with many activities at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewistown. She was an avid cook and baker, always at the ready with donations for bake sales, and a skilled seamstress, constantly creating and repairing with fabric finds for friends and family alike. She also enjoyed Thursday night bingo at Clover Commons. She was an avid walker for years, putting to shame many who are years younger. In recent years she made baby blankets for the birth of each of her great-grandchildren. She always had a word seek book and a novel nearby to keep her occupied. Her hands were never idle as she knit scarves and dishcloths for friends, family and church fundraisers. Her final resting place will be with her beloved Max at Juniata Memorial Park in Lewistown, PA. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Tower United Methodist Church on Monday, March 2, 2020, at 11 a.m., with an interment service to be held in Lewistown on her birthday.
