GEORGE GETTY Of Forest Hills, age 85, died on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Marlene P. (Downey) Getty for 57 years. Loving father of Chris (Barb) Getty, Tim (Denise) Getty and Lorri (Dwayne) Leviere; treasured grandfather of Tanya (William) Thomas, Shawn (Abby Dodson) Getty, Danielle Getty, Sofia Getty and Cameron J. Leviere; proud great-grandfather of Christopher and Theodore Thomas. George was the last surviving of seven siblings from the Benjamin and Anna Getty Family of Hazelwood. George was a Korean War Army veteran. After his military service, George attended the University of Pittsburgh on the G.I. Bill while working full-time at USSteel, Homestead Works. After earning his Bachelor's Degree he was hired by Arthur Young accounting firm. George passed his CPA exam and became hired by PPG. While with PPG, George attended Duquesne University's Law School at night and, at age 38, he graduated and passed the bar exam. He retired from PPG but continued his private law practice for a few more years. In retirement, George delighted in fishing at Pymatuning and Canada. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling. However, most of all, he loved to be with his family. Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. JOHN DARYL KRISTOFIC Peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the age of 71. John was born in West Deer Township to John and Mary Anoker Kristofic on April 22, 1948. He was an honor student at Fox Chapel High School graduating in 1966, and went on to earn degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Temple University School of Medicine. He maintained a medical practice for decades in the Pittsburgh area and was loved by those whom he touched over the years. He passionately helped others through his volunteer work with Catholic Charities, Operation Safety Net of Pittsburgh, and as an overseas medical volunteer through his dedicated service to Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed skiing, biking, and travelling, and most of all spending time with his family. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Sittler (Richard), his sons John and Brian Kristofic (Kimberly Petersen), and their mother Marilyn Robbins Perl, adoring grandchildren Anna and Kenneth Petersen Kristofic, his loving partner Pauline Roman, and countless family and longtime friends throughout Western Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Schenley High School in 1969 and of Connoley Vo-Tech in 1971 where he learned air conditioning/refrigeration. Eugene worked in his family business, The House of Chiang, in Oakland from 1980 until the restaurant closed its doors in 2006 as the head chef. He loved to cook for his family most of all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Yee and Yung Chu Shew (Wong). Eugene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Vickie, and his children, Angela (Craig) Menne, Richard, and Jennifer (Jeremy) Neal. DR. JOHN "JACK" BLACK, JR. Age 86, of Mt. Lebanon, passed on September 28, 2019. Jack was born December 3, 1932. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart, Mary Anne Black for 65 years; son of John, Sr. and Lucy (Lowe) Black; father of Greg (Elisa) and Jay (Elizabeth); grandfather to Laura, Andi, Ellen, Fiona and Ian; dear friend of Richard Oliver Price. Jack was a 1953 graduate of Clarion University, later receiving both Master and Doctorate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. After attending Clarion and serving as a sergeant in the Marines at Camp Lejeune, Dr. Black started his professional career at Carrick High School as an English teacher in 1956. From there, he became vice principal at Schenley, then Perry High School, later to return to Carrick as its principal during tumultuous times in 1971. Before assuming his position as Carrick principal, he served as assistant to the Superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools. He left Carrick to become the Assistant Superintendent then the Superintendent at Keystone Oaks School District where he served until his retirement. Throughout his teaching career, he coached several basketball, swimming and cross-country teams and served as advisor to the school newspaper. After retiring, Jack joined the staff at California University of Pennsylvania instructing student teachers for 10 years. Jack was a past President of Dormont/Mt. Lebanon Rotary, past President of Tri-State Area School Study Council, past President of South Hills Area School District Association and member of the University of Pittsburgh Phi Delta Kappa. His greatest passions involved his interest and connection with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends loving to spend time playing golf, dining and swimming. He had great love for and devotion to his family and placed them first in his life. Jack either coached or attended nearly all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events, music performances and other events. He was always positive and available. A loving and generous family man, Jack will be missed beyond his humble understanding of what he means to our family. We were certainly blessed to have him in our lives well into his 80's.
