SNYDER RICHARD W. 77, of Greenville, formerly of Allison Park, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at UPMC Horizon in Greenville, following a lengthy fight against cancer. Dick worked as an LPN for many years at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was a very caring and compassionate oncology department nurse. While working at Allegheny General Hospital, he won the prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Nursing. ALLEN EDWARD CHARLES 83, formerly of Gladden Heights, McDonald, PA, died Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Kindred Hospital, North Shore, Pittsburgh, PA, with his loving family by his side. Edward was the son of the late Charles and Margaret Allen of the South Side, and was married for 50 years to Frances (Serdi) Allen, who preceded him in death. Mr. Allen attended St. Cassimir's School on the South Side and was a graduate of the Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, he served in the Air Force where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Allen taught Junior High School science, chemistry, and biology for the Canon-McMillan School District in Cecil Township. He was very respected and admired by his fellow teachers and the many students he taught throughout his long career. He has a captivating way about holding the students' interest and keeping them engaged. Ed was very passionate and successful in his hobby of racing and breeding champion pigeons, which he won many races and awards. He was an outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping, and was an exceptional beekeeper. He adored children, especially his daughter, Janice. Surviving is his cherished daughter, Janice (Lawrence) Watson of Mt. Lebanon, PA. Mr. Allen will be missed by those who have known him. He touched many hearts and lives. SNIEGOCKI GILBERT P. Gilbert “Gil”, age 82, of Baldwin Boro, formerly of the South Side, died peacefully Friday, February 28, 2014. He is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Marie Kuehn Schmitt- Sniegocki; and preceded in death by his first wife Bernadette and granddaughter Dana. Son of the late Stanley and Louise; loving father of Paul (Mary Beth) Sniegocki, Janice (Kenneth) Bell, Matthew (Jennifer) Sniegocki; and ten grandchildren; also survived by his brother, Ervin (Jean) Sniegocki. Preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gil was known for his love of all sports, and at 18 years of age pitched in an All Star game at Forbes Field. He served in the Army, and while stationed in Germany pitched baseball for the Army. He was employed by J&L Steel for 35 years as a crane operator and was a member of SOAR. Gil also was a member of St. Adalbert Alumni Association. Friends received Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at the JOHN J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME, 119 S. 15th St., South Side.
