KLEIN ALAN HARVEY Age 67, of O'Hara Township, died peacefully on March 23, 2018, after losing a nearly two year battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Paula Garrick Klein for 32 years; son of the late Claire H. and Seymour Klein; survived by his brother, Evan (Mark Rippy), Vero Beach, Florida; and sister-in-law, of Cynthia Garrick, Yakima, Washington. Alan co-founded Action Transit Enterprises, Inc. in 1976. He ran the family school bus contracting company as Vice President of Operations and later President until its sale in 2007. Alan was also President of ATE Industries, Inc. and ATE Motor Sales. Respected as an honest and fair businessman, Alan used his expertise in the school bus industry to provide advice and support for school districts as well as bus contractors. He was generous with both his time and his knowledge. Prior to and after the sale of Action Transit, Alan established himself as a reputable wholesale supplier of school vehicles. Alan was a past board member of the Pennsylvania School Bus Association and an active member of the Pennsylvania Bus Association. In addition, Alan was committed to Jewish causes. He was a past board member of Hebrew Institute and Jewish National Fund in Pittsburgh. PERRY JAMES JIM H. Age 94, a DuBois native and 25 year resident of Treasure Lake, (formerly of Oakmont, PA) passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018, after battling a series of health issues in Loveland, OH. Born on January 26, 1924, in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late George and Della Shaffer Perry. Jim was a graduate of the DuBois High School. He was married to Sara Jones and she preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. He served in the European Theater in the 3rd Armored Division in North Africa/Italy and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the American Legion Post #17 in DuBois, Society of Gas Operators, Guild of Ancient Suppliers and the DuBois Historical Society. Jim was a dedicated and engaged member of the DuBois Community, building meaningful and lasting relationships wherever he went. After close to 50 years in the natural gas industry, Jim and his wife, Sara, settled at Treasure Lake to be close to family and friends. Their lifelong love of golf and ability to contribute to their local church filled their days. After his wife's passing Jim continued to be active in the Treasure Lake Lions, the American Legion Post 17, and especially the First United Methodist Church of DuBois where he was always willing to volunteer in any way he could help. Personal relationships, integrity, commitment to Biblical value, and family were driving principals that Jim maintained throughout his life. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy and spirit remains in each of us who had the privilege to know him and experience his warmth and welcoming nature. Jim is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Jackie (James) Cimino, Jr. of Oakmont, PA; a son, Robert (Barbara) Perry of Loveland, OH; and a son-in-law, Thomas Extrom; he is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. He is also remembered by his dear friend and companion, Betty Brown, and other extended family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Extrom. She graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College and had a long and fulfilling career as a Physical Education teacher at West Mifflin South High School. Besides teaching, Pat had a passion for singing and performing and had been a member of the Harmony Singers. She is preceded in death by her father, Herbert R. LIEBERMAN SHIRLEY GERTRUDE Shirley died March 23, 2018 in Annapolis, MD. She was preceded in death by husband, Morris; and brother, Joseph Rattner. She is survived by sons, Ron, of Fleetwood, NC, and Jay (Sally) of Minneapolis, MN; and by four grandchildren, Melanie (Chad) Fitzpatrick Dustin (Amy) Spies and Michael and Hannah Lieberman; and sisters-in-law, Mickey Rattner and Laurie Lieberman. Shirley was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 14, 1924. From a very young age, she worked in the dress shop owned by her parents, Sol and Rose Rattner on the North Side. She received a BS in Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh in 1944 and married Morris Lieberman, a physicist, during her junior year. Soon after Shirley graduated from college, the couple moved to Annapolis, where Morris took a position at the former David Taylor Research Center. The family resided on Poplar Street, and Shirley later lived at Heritage Harbor and Ginger Cove. A lifelong Democrat and community activist, Shirley made many contributions to her city and county. After Morris died of a heart attack in 1978, she began volunteering with the American Heart Association and was soon hired as the Director of its Anne Arundel County Division. During her 25 years in this position she organized hundreds of events to raise funds for heart research, teach CPR, and raise public awareness of the benefits of exercise and diet for heart health. Earlier in her career she was a long-time substitute teacher at Annapolis Junior High School. Shirley was a volunteer with the MD Department of Aging for a decade; she was also a past President of Sisterhood Kneseth Israel and of the Annapolis chapter of Hadassah. At Heritage Harbor, Shirley served on the swimming and exercise committees and was on the condominium board. At Ginger Cove, where she lived from 2012 until her death, Shirley started a film class and a Mahjong club, served on the Religious Life Committee, and on the Ginger Cove Foundation and organized dinners and other observances for Jewish holidays and building resident meetings. She founded and for the past four years ran an annual food drive at Ginger Cove to benefit the Maryland Food Bank; the 2018 food drive, which ended this month, raised over $20,000 in donations. He was the owner of the former Chicken Express in White Oak, Simply Hair Salon in White Oak, and the former Sebert's Market in McKeesport. He was a councilman for the Borough of White Oak and served as the Planning & Zoning Director and Code Enforcement Officer for 17 years. He served on the board of the McKeesport Area School District for 14 years, 7 as the Board President. He served on the Elizabeth Twp. Zoning board and recently served as the Code Enforement Officer for the Borough of Wall. Wayne previously was the Director of the White Oak Athletic Association for 20 years, was employed by Tri Star Ford, McKeesport and Lebanon Chapel Mausoleum of West Mifflin. Wayne was a member of the PA Building Officials Conference (PENNBOC), the International Code Enforcement Council and the PA School Board Association. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joy Kropp Washowich; sons, Wayne C. (Debra) Washowich, Jr. of N. Huntingdon, McKeesport and Police Chief Bryan J. (Annie) Washowich of McKeesport; daughters, Kristine (Kevin) Resnik of White Oak, and Jacqueline (John) Axon of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Enzo, Nico, Halee, Jessica, Natalie, Kevin, Jr., Nick, Mike, and Chloe; great-grandchildren, Carter and Cole; brother, Charles (Kim) Washowich of Level Green; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Wayne is also survived by his loyal companion, Daisy May.
