FABISH NICHOLAS "NICK" E. Age 93, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, of natural causes, at his residence at Cranberry Place in Cranberry Twp., surrounded by his family. Nick was born on August 16, 1920. He and his wife of 58 years, the late Helen Lucas, resided in Sharon, PA, until his retirement from Westinghouse when they moved to Palm Coast, FL. He graduated from Farrell High School in 1938 and his passion for the Farrell Steelers was unrivaled. Nick loved singing, dancing, and traveling. He was a loving father to his four children, Elaine Jewart and sons, Paul, Nick, Jr., and Brian. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ura; and his sisters, Wilba, Rosie, Kecki, and Honey. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. SAUER ELIZABETH “BETTY” (KELLINGTON) Passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Shadyside Hospital, surrounded by family. Betty Kellington was born in Pittsburgh on December 14, 1935. A loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Regis (Red) Sauer; her parents, Chuck and Julia (Howard) Kellington; her beloved siblings, brothers, Chuck, Ed, Bob, Bill, Clem, and Leo Kellington and sisters, Sis (Gratton), Mary (Lipera), and Bernie (Lea-Passione). She is survived by her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and special friend, Ed Nemeth. Known as “Gram” to her grandchildren, she's remembered for baking soon after the grandkids arrived for visits and for sending care packages of homemade cinnamon rolls, apricot rolls, and cookies for the trip home. Betty had a sharp sense of humor, intentional or not, which would often leave her grandkids asking, “Did Gram just say what I think she said?” After the passing of her second husband, Red, Betty moved to Shaler, where she participated in many activities at, or sponsored by, The Millvale Senior Center. An avid bingo player with above average luck, she was right at home making new friends and even finding new love at the center. Betty's remains were donated to The Humanity Gift Registry, a private memorial will be held at a later date. PHILLIPS RICHARD J. On Wednesday, February 19, 2014, Richard J. "Babe" Phillips, age 69, of Neville Island, passed peacefully to join his parents. He was the son of the late Rose Belloma Phillips and John Phillips; loving brother of John (Janet) of The Villages, FL, Rodney (Barbara) of Neville Island, David (Joan) of Ohio Township, and Donald (Lorna) of Kennedy Township; he is also survived by his nieces, Sharon and Miranda; and nephews, Johnny, Brian, Todd, and Mitchell; and aunts and cousins and a group of amazing dear friends. The day before he died, he had a great visit with seven of them who came to visit him in the hospital. Richard was an Army veteran and a retiree of the Allegheny County Police with 24 years of service. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and Wednesday breakfasts at Rea's. He was a 1964 graduate of Neville High School. Per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held in late April. Details will follow. PETERS MARIA ELIZABETH Age 81, of Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair, on February 12, 2014. Devoted mother of John (Anne) McFeaters of Tannum Sands, Australia, Kristine (Paul) O'Brien of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Charles (Joyce) McFeaters of Upper St. Clair; loving grandmother of Eleanor, Andrew, and Elizabeth McFeaters, John Paul and Anna O'Brien, Charles (Sarah), Robert, and Katherine McFeaters; sister of the late Bela and Leslie "Les" Karlovitz. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert H. Peters. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Maria was educated and grew up in Switzerland. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1947 to rejoin her father who had come before the war to work on a special project at Westinghouse Electric Research. The family settled in Mt. Lebanon, PA, where Maria graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School with honors. She then went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University, School of Architecture, one of the first women to do so. With her natural talent for the analytical, Maria began her career in financial services as a pension and investment consultant. She earned her Certified Financial Planner designation in 1989 and opened her own practice as one of America's first fee only female financial planners. Maria was a co-founder and retired Vice-President of Santori & Peters, Inc., Registered Investment Advisors, a personal wealth management firm located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. She previously served on the Santori & Peters Board of Directors. Maria was a long-term Board member and past president of the Pittsburgh Financial Planning Association (FPA). She also held the Certified Financial Planner and Accredited Investment Fiduciary designations. With over 30 years of financial service experience, she brought to each client a wealth of financial expertise and sound financial judgment. Along the way, Maria raised three children and was a great inspiration to her eight grandchildren, whom she enjoyed immensely. She was an avid gardener, an excellent skier and in her day, one of the top tennis players in the tri-state area, activities she continued her entire life. Maria did volunteer work at Woodville and Morganza, she was a cub scout den mother, and always had an open door for friends and relatives when they needed help. She was a remarkable woman whose grace and gentility touched everyone she encountered. BRAUN WESLEY A. “WES” Age 97, of Bellefonte, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died peacefully at his daughter's home, Sunday, February 9, 2014. Born January 15, 1917, at his parents home in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Mary Irene Coleman and Benjamin Arthur Braun; and brother of the late William E. Braun. On April 4, 1941, he married Dorothy Mae Little, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara J. Braun of State College, PA and Janet L. Bartley (Francis) of Bellefonte; granddaughters, Ida (John) O'Donald and Barbara (Chris) Rossman of Bellefonte, and Lena Higgins of Snydertown; great-grandchildren, Sarah (Nick) Ward, John O'Donald, James O'Donald, Benjamin Higgins, Eva (Chris) Hodgdon, Caleb Rossman, Grace Rossman, Shane Kaschalk, and Andrew Kaschalk; two great- great-grandsons, William Ward and William Hodgdon; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and loving friends; and his special lady friend, Betty Sherword, and her children and grandchildren who became his extended Pittsburgh family. Wes grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Peabody High School in 1936. During those years, he participated in sports and held various part time jobs to help support the family. At age 20, he began his lifetime employment with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 35 years of service, holding various positions during those years. During World War II, he served his country in the United Stated Army, in charge of mail services for the military after the occupation of Japan, overseeing services from the central post office on the Island of Suppora, Japan. After retirement, he worked a variety of jobs, having learned several trades and many skills over the years, but the one he enjoyed the most was as a tour guide for Lenzner Buses as a tour guide for many visitors and dignitaries, providing them with detailed information of Pittsburgh history and little known facts. He was always willing to help anyone with anything and did it with a smile. He enjoyed sports, having had the opportunity to be teen young adult when Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball and Pirate Football were in their young years. He played neighborhood ball with players that went on to be professionals and owners. He enjoyed attending the space launches while his cousin was an astronaut and doing space walks, traveling across the United States to learn more history, camping at Hidden Valley in Mifflinburg, PA, baking, gardening, crafts, woodworking, writing poetry, leading discussion groups and churches as a lay pastor, involvement with Camp Lambec near Erie, PA as board member, counselor, teacher, and activities director, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and board member. He served at local, district, state, and national level for the Presbyterian church. Those who knew him will remember him most for baking and sharing his clothespin cookies, food from his garden, his gentle kindness, his love of God, country, and family, and ability for this large man to make everyone feel comfortable. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte for years while he lived here, and North Hills Presbyterian Church in West View, while living there. At his request, memorial contributions may be made in his honor at either of the above churches. Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 1 p.m., following observance of Lent and Easter, as he requested.
