CRAWFORD KENNETH Age 86, of Avalon, peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Beloved husband of 62 years to Veronica (Jester) Crawford; dear father of Paul (Kim) Crawford, Sue-Ellen (Thomas) Byrne, Alice (Leo, Jr.) Malloy, Tracey (Jeffrey) Eck, Wendy Crawford, and the late Kenneth Keith Crawford and Bruce Edward Crawford; grandfather of Jennifer Crawford, Jessica Crawford, Devin Malloy, Sr., Bethany Johnson, Julia Hubert, Kristie Byrne, Jonathan Crawford, Andrew Eck, Kenneth Byrne, Kevin Crawford, Moriah Eck, and Steven Crawford; also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and the twelfth one on the way; and by many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Lena Crawford; and his brother, Donald Crawford. Ken was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of the Carpenter's Union and a proud US Navy veteran. BAECHTOLD BERNARD “SLIM” F. Age 96, devoted his life to Fire Fighting, a Moon Township resident most of his life, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Southwestern Veteran Center. Born in McKeesport on October 29, 1921, he was one of five to the late Walter O. and Emma J. (Keenan) Baechtold. On February 3, 1962, he married his beloved, Shirley H. (McCann) Baechtold, who preceded him in death on August 10, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Agnes Tesla; brothers, James and Raymond Baechtold; and stepson, David G. Peters; loving father of Sarah A. (Greg G.) Gray and Jennifer (Scott C.) Zimmerman; cherished stepfather of Charles D. (Maya) and Thomas A. (Connie) Peters; adored grandfather of Grace and Geoffrey; step-grandfather of Christina, Pamela, Linda, Melanie, Jordan and Tommy. Also surviving are his sister, Lois Kornaus; and sister-in-law, Shirley (wife of brother James). Slim was a WWII Navy veteran who served on the USS Rhind and USS Macon. He joined the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1941 and served 30 years as a County Fireman. An avid hunter and fisherman, he had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved to spend time at the beach and his mountain cabin in Port Allegany. He also enjoyed watching ice hockey. Visitation Wednesday 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at COPELAND'S MOON TOWNSHIP, 981 Brodhead Rd. GAINES GARY L., Sr. Gary, age 72, of McDonald, North Fayette Twp., died Wednesday, November 15, 2017. He was born February 15, 1945, in Louisville, KY a son of the late Charles and Mable Miller Gaines. Mr. Gaines was a retired US Air Force veteran, serving 20 years and six months. He later worked at the Seaman Building Center for 15 years. He enjoyed playing golf and reading and loved his dogs. Surviving are his daughter, Andrea Gaines of Pittsburgh; and his son, Gary (Lori) Gaines of Canonsburg; his sister, Charlotte Mouser of MS. KILLMEYER RICHARD P. On Sunday, November 19, 2017, Richard P. Killmeyer, age 92, died peacefully surrounded by family. Beloved husband of the late Claire (Richert) Killmeyer; father of Richard P. Killmeyer, Jr. (Denise) Killmeyer, Edward Killmeyer, Susanne Killmeyer, Michael Killmeyer, and Elizabeth (Mark) Thomas; brother of Donald W. (Barbara) Killmeyer; grandfather of Kristin Killmeyer, Brandon Kehr, Eric, Alex, and Taylor Thomas; great-grandfather of Brayden Kehr; uncle to Deacon Tim (Chris) Killmeyer and Wayde Killmeyer. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Mary Killmeyer of Elliott. A kind, selfless man, Rich lived his life with honor, integrity, and humility, and was a joy to be around. Richard was part of the first graduating class of North Catholic High School, in 1943, and he was honored to be inducted into The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School Hall of Fame last year. Serving in the US Army in the Pacific in WWII, he was wounded in Okinawa and received a Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his gallantry. A retired draftsman with J&L Steel/LTV, he was a longtime member and volunteer of the Church of the Assumption. Richard was recognized as a Jefferson Awards Community Champion for his volunteer work as a tutor at Holy Family Institute. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, daily walks, Pittsburgh sports, and family get-togethers. Friends received Friday, November 24, 2017, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the LAWRENCE T. Virginia, affectionately known by many as "Mama" was well known as having a heart of gold and always helping others on a daily basis. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her gift to gab. She was an avid traveler and could not wait for her next adventure including any casino trip along the way. Virginia was also well known for walking 3-5 miles a day for most of her life. She had many adopted children in her life and they were connected not by blood but by heart. TRIPODI WILLIAM FRANCIS William “Bill” “Billy” Tripodi, of Ohara Twp. on November 20, 2017, went to meet his Creator. He was the beloved and only son of the late Larry A. and Pearl M. Tripodi. He is survived by his dog, Buddy; his Godmother, Dorothy Pisano; aunt, Frances Bentlejewski; Godchildren, Lori Schneider (Helwick), Gina Duncan (Helwick); and numerous cousins. Bill was a very devout Catholic. He attended St. Fidelis in his younger years, where he studied to be a priest. Even though life did not lead him down that path, his faith in God stayed steadfast and he was involved in his church for years. He was a “son” of the American Legion at Post 106 in Sharpsburg. He also had his Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus. He may have been an only child however with the love of his many cousins, he was never left to feel alone. His cousins, Amy and Paul Faas' children, Jenna Schmidt (Faas) and Regis Faas, were more like his niece and nephew. His memory will be forever in their hearts. Please celebrate with the family as God welcomes William Home. LABANC THOMAS ANDREW Age 71, of Mt. Lebanon, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Patricia (Patnik) Labanc for 46 years; loving brother of Timothy (Margarite) Labanc; son of the late Andrew and Pauline Labanc; caring brother-in-law of Gregory E., Ron F., and Donald E. Patnik; proud uncle of Dina and Andra Labanc. Mr. Labanc graduated from McKeesport High School, Penn State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Master's degree in Education. He was a teacher and head of the Social Studies Department at Baldwin High School for ten years. Mr. Labanc then worked in sales for the private sector at Ritter Engineering for ten years. He then continued his career in education as Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools at Upper St. Clair Twp. for over ten years. He then returned to the classroom where he was head of the Social Studies Department until his retirement in 2009. After retirement as a tour guide, Mr. Labanc became a popular tour director at Rivers of Steel, initially at Carrie Furnace, and then expanding to city tours including brew, craft beer and sport tours. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State fan. Mr. Labanc was well loved and will be truly missed by all who knew him. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. CRAWFORD GEORGIA Age 103, of Upper St. Clair, died Monday, November 20, 2017, in the Health Center at Friendship Village. She was born September 18, 1914, in Adena, Ohio, a daughter of the late Homer and Virgie (Townsend) Crawford. Ms. Crawford graduated from Adena High School and an Ohio business school. She came here to work in the Pittsburgh branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and became secretary to the president. Georgia was a longtime faithful member of Sunset Hills Presbyterian Church. She was passionate about the Pittsburgh Pirates and enjoyed bowling. Surviving are a niece and nephew. Deceased are a brother, Raymond Crawford and a sister, Margaret Martie. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday at 11 a.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery in Harrisville, Ohio.
