NAPONIC HERBERT S. Age 88, of Level Green, PA died November 18, 2017. Abandoned by his parents, Herb was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Joseph and Mary Naponic. After graduating from Jeannette High School, he enlisted in the Air Force, which he credited with "straightening him out." He worked into his 80s as a real estate appraiser, funding his favorite hobby, golf. "Uncle Herb" enjoyed big band music and fishing, and spent countless hours helping up at Medic's Farm. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Medic Naponic. He is survived by two children, Jeffrey (Karen) Naponic, Esq., and Amy (Ronald) Yurko, JD, Ph.D.; five grandchildren, Steven Naponic, Cara Naponic, Joseph (Amy) Yurko, Ph.D., Nicholas (Rachel) Yurko, and Ronald Yurko, Jr.; and beautiful great-granddaughter, Anja Yurko. He was born October 4, 1941, in Pottstown, PA, a son of the late James Theodore and Thelma (Chapman) VanZandt. Mr. VanZandt graduated Pottstown High School in 1959 and Susquehanna University in 1963. He served in the Air Force Reserves from 1964 through 1970. In 1963, Jim co-founded Tri State Supply Company, the family business. He was passionate about the family business and cared for his employees like extended family. Mr. VanZandt led an active lifestyle that included his love of hunting out West. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his dogs, Patches and Allie. MAGHERY DANIEL J. Age 61, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. He was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on October 11, 1956, the beloved son of the late Carole Pearce Maghery and Richard Leo Maghery. Throughout his life, Dan was an exceptional athlete, knowledgeable sports enthusiast, and loyal friend. Dan graduated from Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts where he excelled on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He then played a season of baseball with the Chatham Athletics in the highly-competitive Cape Cod Baseball League, competing with many players who went on to play in the major leagues. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dan worked for U.S. Air for 25 years before retiring to open his own marketing firm, Tyger Promotions, in 2005. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Leisa Naughton Maghery; his daughter, Kaitlyn Alexee Maghery of Irwin, PA; and his son, Tyler Daniel Maghery of Manor, PA. He would also want us to mention his 'third' child, Bailey Maghery, the 105-pound Golden Retriever who never left his side. Dan leaves his in-laws, Jack and Janet Naughton of North Huntingdon. Born in Connellsville, PA on March 28, 1927, he was one of four children to the late James and Catherine (Andursky) Quinn. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Catherine (Carbonara). In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathleen Andyjohn and Patricia Scacchi. Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lois (Klixbull). Loving father of Mary Kay (Joseph) Loughran, Daniel (Carla) Quinn, Diane (John) Matlak, James P. (Sally) Quinn, Robert (Angela) Quinn and Scott (Lori) Quinn; stepfather of William, Edward (Deborah), Patrick, and Daniel Trunick, and Mary Restivo; beloved grandfather of Ryan, Kelly, Daniel and Patrick Loughran, Katie (Sean) O'Neil and Michael Quinn, Paige, Jack, Kennedy and Hilary Quinn, and Zach and Lindsey Quinn; step-grandfather of Joseph and Liana Leja, Jack and Dixon Trunick, and Sidney Restivo. Also survived by his sister, Anna Mary Canada; sisters-in-law, Louise (Leonard) Mecco, Carmalee (David) Porter; brothers-in-law, Anthony Carbonara, Richard (Rose) Carbonara; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was a World War II Navy veteran elected Honor Man of his company and proudly served on the USS Cole in the Philippine Islands. He received a degree in Chemistry from Duquesne University in 1950 and began a long, successful career in the chemical coatings industry, retiring from Valspar Corporation. Jim was proud of his 40-year tenure as a PIAA referee in the Beaver Valley Chapter, officiating football, basketball, volleyball, and track and field. Jim was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, serving as the parish's first Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Jim continued his charitable work as a volunteer and board member at the West Hills Food Pantry in Moon Township. Jim received the Elks Distinguished Citizen Award in recognition of his community services in 2002. His positive outlook, deep faith, and love of family will continue to inspire those who knew him and be a part of us forever.
