PLOTKIN ARTHUR Arthur Plotkin died on October 11, 2017, even though his family thought he would live forever - he would have been 102 on November 5, 2017. Born at his home in the Hill District, he was the youngest of Maryasha (Kasden) and Leon Plotkin's four children. Arthur attended Miller Elementary School, and after moving to Squirrel Hill, he graduated from Allderdice High School in 1932, one of the school's first graduating classes. During World War II, Arthur Plotkin served as a Staff Sergeant in the intelligence unit, stationed near Okinawa, Japan. After the war ended, he stayed in Japan with the U.S. occupying forces. Returning to Pittsburgh after the war, he helped his mother at her poultry store in Squirrel Hill, he started a business with one brother and then the other, he married and started a family. Arthur worked for over 65 years – until he was nearly 100, at Nu Life Cleaners, the business he started in the early 1950s, located in Braddock, PA and in Squirrel Hill. Arthur's life was defined by humility, simplicity, generosity, and a commitment to his faith. He was wise, and said what he needed to say succinctly, without judgment. His philosophy was uncomplicated, “Make a lot of money so that you can give it away,” and “Everything works out for the best.” He was an inspiration, and will be sorely missed. Arthur Plotkin was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Al Plotkin, Nellie Vinograd, Ben Plotkin and their spouses. He was also predeceased by his loving wife, Miriam Neuman Plotkin.
