She graduated from CCAC with an Associate Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Management. She attended many classes at Point Park University, where she was eight credits shy of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. She was on the starting committee and staff which enabled The Headstart Program to be commissioned in the Pittsburgh area, which began in 1965, she had a desire for all children to have a fighting chance for education that would develop and enhance their growth, and give them an opportunity to advance in society. JESENSKY JAMES C. James C. 'Jess' Jesensky, age 82, of Finleyville, formerly of Castle Shannon and Avella, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at his home. He was born May 12, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of Andrew and Stella Ercoli Jesensky. Mr. Jesensky was retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Upper St. Clair. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and also in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Jesensky was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and American Legion Post 643 in Avella. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Vodzak Jesensky; three sons, Jim Jesensky (Jessica) of Canonsburg, Jason Jesensky (Shona) of Mountain View, CA and Jeff (Danielle) Jesensky of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Theresa Sekely (Brian) of South Park; two brothers, Albert and Andrew Jesensky; two sisters, Eleanor Rowe and Bernadette Klose; ten grandchildren, Lila, Erin, Kyle, Elsa, Lucy, Jack and Maggie Jesensky and Samantha, Sydney and Sara Sekely; and many nieces and nephews. PAVLAK ROSE MARIE Age 99, formerly of California, PA, died peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. She was born on Monday, April 22, 1918, in Brownsville, PA, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Consoli) Glott. In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Stephen E. Pavlak on December 10, 2004; three brothers, Ralph, Frank and Dominic Glott; and her sister, Mary Caruso. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Stephen A. Pavlak and wife, Patricia, of Jefferson Hills, PA; three grandchildren, Stephen E. Pavlak II, Nancy Elizabeth Thurston and husband, Bill, and Sarah Elizabeth Pavlak. Also surviving are three great- grandchildren, Katie Thurston, Reese Pavlak and Taylor Pavlak. Ron was born on September 2, 1952, in Pittsburgh, PA the son of Wayne Frye and the late Lois (Loutsenhizer) Frye. Ron enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America as well as the East Liberty Presbyterian Church. COOK CARROLL EDWIN Age 89, of Baldwin Township, formerly of Duncannon, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Born on June 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Franklin and Grace Cook. Beloved husband of Dora Mae Cook of 58 years. He was the loving father of Melody Cook and David Cook and grandfather of Justin Cook; dear brother of Jenny, Harvey, Daisy and Charles. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Franklin, Russell, Ruth and Linda. Carroll had a 34- year safe-driving record with Greyhound and was President of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1063 from 1976 to 1980. He enjoyed automobile mechanical work, carpentry, music, playing the guitar, traveling, tinkering with a 1969 Ford Mustang, building model airplanes, playing cards, hunting, he loved researching the law, doing puzzles and sitting with his buddy, Mickey. GUERRA HELEN “GOLDIE” Age 87 years, lost her battle with cancer on August 2, 2017. Goldie was raised in Homestead, PA by her sister, Ida Stevens. Goldie moved to Brentwood, PA where she resided with her husband, Louis E. Guerra, formerly of Hays, PA. Goldie worked for Bell Telephone (1947-1985), and also worked for the PA Telephone Workers' Union, Local 1944 as their Vice President and Recording Secretary (1976-1982). Goldie found pleasure in helping others. She is survived by her daughter, LouAnne Guerra. She is also survived by Gloria Jean Weisen and Robert Stevens, who were more a “baby sister and brother”; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Goldie will find peace in seeing her parents, Joseph and Julia Gall, as well as her late brothers and sisters. Goldie's daughter would like to thank Mary LaBella Mullen and Lorri LaBella Collett for their support, as well as the caregivers, Cathy Motor, Jenna Quinones, Claire Mays McMillen and Toni Logan.
