MARSICO TERESA COSTANTINI SURR...
MARSICO TERESA COSTANTINI Surrounded by her loving family, Teresa Costantini Marsico was called to join her husband and soulmate on the peaceful evening of Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the age of 89. Born March 26, 1928, to Leonard Rinaldo Costantini and Rose Mango Costantini, she was the third of their six children and grew up in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. A graduate of St. Mary's High School, she fought with her sisters and friends to keep the home fires burning during World War II for her brother, cousins, friends and country with war bond sales, blood drives, letter-writing campaigns and care for returning soldiers. She met her war hero, Frank Marsico, at a family wedding shortly after the War, and they were wed September 4, 1948. Their 65-year long love affair produced what they called their magnificent seven children and a host of memories that will never be lost. A firm disciplinarian with a tender touch, she reared them in the stoic mold of the German nuns who educated her, and brought new meaning to the term home economist. But she was far more than a stay at home mom - as nobly as she filled that most-important of roles - she was life coach and business partner to her entrepreneurial husband. She tirelessly worked with him and their other business partners through every important decision and new venture with intelligent, dispassionate and cogent business advice. But without a doubt, she hit her longest stride as the beloved Meemaw to her 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Precious baby care, exquisitely hand-made smocked clothing, homemade pasta, wise, ancient aphorisms and loads of stalwart encouragement gave life-lessons to two new generations of descendants that will be forever marked by her wisdom. In spite of her full-time family duties, she found time to give back. Besides helping their many friends in times of trouble, she especially loved caring for babies born of drug dependent mothers in Bluffton, South Carolina and singing with the Millbrook Baptist Church Singing Christmas Tree in Aiken, South Carolina. Proud of her self-styled tomboy childhood, she was an avid and accomplished golfer in spite of getting a late start at her husband's favorite pastime, rising to serve as Chair of the Junior program at Edgewood Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA then later President of the Woodside Country Club Women's Golf Association in Aiken, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Frank; her brother, Leonard Costantini, Jr.; and her baby sister, Gloria. She is survived by her adoring children, Vincent (Carole) of Pittsburgh, Frank, Jr. (Michele) of Rutherford, NJ, Mamie Rader (Tom) of Charleston, Leonard (Milly) of Pittsburgh, Gloriarose Lattimore (Talley) of Columbia, Tony (Jennifer) of Asheville, NC, and Stephan (Lori) of Charlotte; her sisters, Sophie Jacobs and Olga Altmar; her brother, Fred Costantini; her 20 loving grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. The family expresses their sincerest thanks to the wonderful staff at Wildewood Downs Assisted Living and Rehabilitation groups for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Marsico. Visitation was held at DUNBAR FUNERAL HOME, 3926 Devine St., Columbia, SC, on Monday, July 17, 2017, from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Committal will be private at a later date.
