Andy grew up in Duquesne, PA, and was raised by his loving mother, Katherine Gallagher Carey, in the home of his beloved grandfather, John Gallagher on Fourth Street in Duquesne, along with his four siblings. His father died when he was young and Andy was always grateful for the special relationship he had with his uncle, Matt Gallagher, who instilled the values of hard work and education on his nephew and also taught him a love of all sports. As a child of the depression era, he was a serious young boy who held many jobs in an effort to help his mother. He was a newspaper boy, he worked at Kennywood, in the steel mills and on river boat barges. Andy graduated from Braddock High School and was fortunate that his teacher saw potential in him and encouraged him to go on to college. Andy and Dot had five children and shortly after the second child was born they moved to West Mifflin to raise their family. For more than 20 years, Andy and Dorothy spent time vacationing at their condominium in Hilton Head, SC. Later Hilton Head became the vacation spot for the entire family to enjoy from wave busting, to pappy pancakes, to family dinners, and walks on the beach. After moving to West Mifflin, Andy became an active member of Resurrection Parish. He worked on the committee to build the new church and the school and served on the Parish Counsel until he was 80 years old. He taught the 8th Grade Boys CCD Confirmation Class for more than 25 years. He was one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4210, and was on the committee to build their council hall and ultimately served as Grand Knight of the Council. Andy was preceded in death by his loving wife, as well as his mother, Katherine Carey; and his father, Andrew P Carey; as well as his beloved older sister, Kay Carey; sister Mary Carey Anderson; brother, Matt Carey, as well as his beloved mother and father-in-law, George and Susan Katchur; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Florence and George Zuzo and George and Helen Katchur; and Mary Catherine Carey and William Sage. SPADACENE MARY BANDUCCI BORN I...
SPADACENE MARY BANDUCCI Born in Erie, PA on September 23, 1924, departed this life, surrounded by her loving family, on May 3, 2017, in Pittsburgh, PA. Although the hallmark of Mary's life was her devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Mary never met an estate sale she didn't like, a deep-discount sale she could pass up, or an antique store she could drive by without stopping in to explore. Mary was unfailingly generous with her love and with her time, and she was always willing to share. These characteristics were often demonstrated at her dinner table where friends and family were warmly welcomed. Mary loved her children and grandchildren and took great pleasure in all of their accomplishments. "Bye for now," Mom. You will be deeply missed. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Helmar "Elmer" Spadacene and by her brother, Carl Banducci. She is survived by her children: Joseph Spadacene and his wife, Lynn, of Bethel Park, PA, Barbara Spadacene McNamara and her husband, James, of Erie, Anna Spadacene Maras and her husband, Bob, of McMurray, PA, and Christopher Spadacene and his wife, Carla, of Oakmont, PA. MARSONEK DONALD AFTER WATCHING...
MARSONEK DONALD After watching a Pen's victory, Donald Marsonek, age 80, of Seven Fields, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 4, 2017. He is survived by Diane, his loving wife of 59 years; and daughters, Sharon (Duane) Kelley, Jill (George) Weiss, Lynne (Michael) Arnold, Lori (David) Gloninger; and grandchildren, Chloe, Caroline, Thomas Dougherty, Ashley, George, Carley Weiss, Madeline, Emily Arnold, and Allison, Amanda, Abigail, Aliza Gloninger. Don was born July 21, 1936, on the Southside of Pittsburgh, graduating from Perry High School in 1954. One night at Danceland, in West View, he asked a pretty 18 year old Shaler girl to dance with him and two years later on the 'greatest day of my life' he married the former Diane Rose Starr. Don and Diane began their life together in an apartment above Yetter's Candy store in Millvale. Don went to work at HJ Heinz while also attending Robert Morris University at night earning a business degree; Diane went to work at Yetter's downstairs. Eventually Don ventured out on his own to start an accounting business in Millvale with three clients in 1961. Don and Diane moved to Shaler and began a family. Together they raised four daughters, and while it was a busy time with trying to grow his business, they were very happy times, with cherished memories of many vacations and time spent at Seven Springs. Don even got to coach his daughters for many years in DeHaven Softball league. During this time he owned Percy's Restaurant in Manchester on the Northside where his daughters learned how to work the Lottery machine and bus tables. After growing a successful accounting, payroll, and income tax business for 31 years, Don retired at the age of 56. He and Diane spent decades splitting time between Pittsburgh and Florida, enjoying the sunshine and walking the beach. Don loved to golf and play softball in the senior leagues at North Park and Venice, Florida. Don was a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. A long-time Steeler and Pitt season ticket holder, some of his greatest memories were attending games at Three Rivers Stadium, Heinz Field, Forbes Field, and Mellon Arena with his buddies and family. In retirement he loved reading the Post-Gazette every morning (front to back), going to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, cheering on the Bucs and spending time with his grandchildren at their many sporting events, concerts, and school activities. Family and friends will be received Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS & SONS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143.
