DEORAS BHANU R. At age 94, on Saturday, August 5, 2017. He was born in Nagpur (India), the fourth child out of five, to a prominent physicist and professor at Nagpur University. Bhanu was educated at Nagpur University and received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Birmingham in England. He came to the US in 1958 as a Ford Foundation Scholar at what is now Carnegie Mellon University. He returned to India and worked as a Chief Metallurgist at Durgapur Steel Plant in Durgapur, West Bengal, India. He eventually immigrated to the United States in 1972. The family settled in Pittsburgh a town that he was familiar with from his days at CMU and in many ways similar to Durgapur, another steel town. His career was devoted to working in the steel industry and work was his main passion. He was an active member of the Indian community in Pittsburgh and had many friends. Beloved husband of the late Kamal; loving father of Satish (Jyoti), Sunil (Kiran) and Monica (Rama M. Joshi); and cherished grandfather of: Ketan, Mita, Akshay (Rebecca), Aneesh, Gauri and Rohit; dear brother of Padma. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS.
