DePALATIS MARIA (DiNINNO) Age 87, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. She was born in Sant'Angelo del Pesco, Italy to the late Paolo and Luisa (Sciulli) DiNinno; preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michele, in 1974; dear sister of Nicolino, Giuseppe, and Claudino DiNinno of Italy, Michelina Cenci of Venezuela, Rosaria Bucci of Canada, and Gaetano DiNinno of Switzerland; devoted and loving mother of Louis DePalatis (Rita), Paul DePalatis (Andrea), Filomena Manns (Ralph), Mary Louise Walmsley (Charles), and Anna DePalatis (Tony Stasa); cherished grandmother of Angela, Michael Kennedy (Amy), Laura, Michael Valentine, Christopher, Tony, Luisa (Darrin), Thomas, Michela, and Luca. Maria's husband emigrated from Italy to the United States in 1955 and saved enough money to send for Maria and their three children in 1958. They settled in Glassport and had two more children. After Michele passed away in 1974, Maria worked hard to provide for her family. She was renowned for her pizza at Borrelli's Café in Glassport, from the mid-70s to early 8os. She was also a skilled tailor, seamstress, and an avid gardener. She was an excellent cook who taught her children to make bread, tomato sauce, pasta, and other Italian specialties. Maria was also a devout Roman Catholic and was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Anthony. During the last several years, she was a resident of Weinberg Village in Squirrel Hill. Maria looked forward to her daily interactions with the Weinberg staff and residents. The family extends their sincere appreciation to everyone at Weinberg Village for the excellent care and pleasant atmosphere provided to their mother. Friends will be received at WOJCIECHOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 640 Vermont Ave., Glassport, on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Rosary Church, 530 Michigan Ave., Glassport. The family suggests making a donation in memory of Maria to Weinberg Village, 300 JHF Dr., Squirrel Hill, PA 15217. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
