FLISTER DONALD J. Age 88, of North Versailles, passed away on May 8, 2016, at Briarcliff Pavilion Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 2, 1928, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late William R. and Angeline (Meister) Flister and loving husband of the late Phyllis (McGuire) Flister. He was an Army veteran, retired Steamfitter and member of Local 449 and the St. Robert Bellarmine Men's Club. He is survived by sons, William J. "Bill" (Stephanie) Flister of West Mifflin and Michael (Patti) Flister of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Lara (Kevin) Daly, Dawn (Steve) Smith, Matthew (Lori) Flister, Amy Wills and Kate (Jay) Schlegel; and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda and Janet Flister both of St. Augustine, FL; and also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Eileen Flister and brother, Herbert P. Flister. Family and friends will be received at JAYCOX - JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday 10 a.m. at Saint Jude the Apostle Parish in Wilmerding. Marty passed away peacefully with his loving and devoted wife and brother by his side, just as they lived their lives. Beloved husband of 30 years to Paula (Zaccari) Giglio; loving son of Antonette (Country Meadows) and the late Harry R. Giglio; dear brother of Ronald “Harry” (Mary Ellen) Giglio of McDonald, PA; son-in-law to Tony and Agnes Zaccari of Oakmont, PA; uncle of Gabriella and Rocco Giglio of McDonald, PA; Daniel and Samuel Jenkins of S. Marty was a journalism graduate of Duquesne University and held Master's Degrees in Communications and Human Resources. He had an incredibly strong work ethic. He started his career at Dravo Corporation and then spent many years in the advertising agency industry as an account executive. The last 12 years had been with Buck Consultants as a Principal and Communications Practice Leader. Marty was a man of strong values and opinions and was a mentor to many. He was a devout Catholic and had many varied interests, some of which include reading, exercising, collecting, smoking a fine cigar, fishing with his brother, Harry, also traveling and playing tennis with his wife and best friend, Paula. DOUGHERTY JAY Age 73, husband of Donna Dougherty, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2016, at their house in Florida. He was born August 3, 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Jay retired in 2004 after being self-employed and owner of The Boston Sales Group, an independent manufacturers' rep agency for 25 years. Jay was a resident of Madison for almost 40 years. Jay and Donna, married in 1964, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Jay was a devoted father who cherished time spent with family. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden and spending time with his seven grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed bocce, model trains, golfing and spent most of his time gardening. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Holiday Food Baskets. He will be most remembered for his sarcastic wit. In addition to wife, Donna, he is survived and will be dearly missed by: his three sons, Daniel of St. Pete Beach, FL; Sean, his wife, Dana, their son, Shane of San Jose, CA and daughter, Sarah of Boston, MA; Jeff, his wife, Melissa, their three daughters, Rachel, Hannah and Julia of Madison, CT; his one daughter, Dara Terrio, her husband, Peter, their two sons, Michael and Ryan of Madison, CT; Jay's siblings, Daniel, Sister Carol, Michael, Maureen, Timothy and Kevin. CIRAULO JOSEPH J. Age 91, on Sunday, May 8, 2016, of McCandless, formerly of Swissvale. He was born on June 14, 1924, in Johnstown, PA. On September 11, 1946, he married the late Angeline R. DePaoli, who preceded him in death after 56 years of marriage. Beloved father of Josie Gaydos (Steve) of Colchester, VT, Maryann Reed (Fred) of Sun City, AZ, Sharon Wolf (Matthew) of Franklin Park, PA, Diane Rogers (Tom) of Raleigh, NC; loving grandfather of Franny Theoret (Dan), Waker Gaydos, and Jonathan Donati (Aja Jones); adoring great-grandfather of Claire Theoret; also surviving are his sister, Lena DiPaolo, and his extended family members, H'Nair Lian and his wife, Zai Rem and Chung Tha, Dawt and Tom Lian. Joe loved his life. He was a member of his championship high school football team, a soldier in WWII (earning a Purple Heart for his injuries), an architect, an artist, a lover of maps and an avid sports fan (especially of western Pennsylvania sports teams). He was devoted to his family and very proud of their accomplishments and charmed everyone he met with his intelligence and his sharp wit. A resilient survivor of everything from war wounds to cancer, to heart disease and a stroke, he approached life with a relentless optimism and positive attitude. GITZEN JOSEPH E. Age 74, of Washington, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. He was born on April 22, 1942, to the late Mary and Richard Gitzen. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Patricia; dear brother of Rita Guertner and Maggie (George) Wolf; loving father of Jeannine (Stephen) Sagi, Erik Gitzen and Matthew Gitzen; cherished grandfather of Shawn Koepke and Anthony Sagi. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Gitzen. He will also be deeply missed by his sister-in-law, Carol. Joseph was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marines as a Staff Sergeant from 1961-1970. He loved to spend time outdoors, especially golfing, fishing, and was devoted to taking care of his wife, Patricia. THOMPSON PATRICIA E. "PATTY" Age 67, of Canonsburg and Tampa, Florida passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016, in UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born on March 11, 1949, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Zinsmeister. Patty enjoyed spending her time in both Canonsburg and Tampa. She worked for Giant Eagle for over 20 years and retired as a supervisor. She regularly attended South Canonsburg Church in Canonsburg and enjoyed volunteering with Potter's House Deliverance Tabernacle in Tampa. Patty especially enjoyed long walks on the beach with her dogs. She was a loving and giving person who helped everyone and will be missed by all who knew her. In June of 1998 she married her beloved husband, William J. "Bill" Thompson, who survives; also surviving is a son, Daniel Lange of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Terri (Steve) Horton of New York; three precious grandchildren; a brother, Robert Zinsmeister of Pittsburgh; nephew, David Fleming and his family of West Mifflin; and mother-in-law, Joann Thompson of Pittsburgh. NOVAK EDWARD Age 89, a Moon Township resident since 1955, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Heritage Valley Sewickley. He was born in McKees Rocks on October 28, 1926, to the late John and Josephine (Maxsaimovich) Novak. On November 12, 1987, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Kuzio) Novak. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Lynn “Cis” Novak; and six sisters, Julie, Blanche, Stella, Violet, Sophie and Frances; beloved and cherished father of Edward “Butch” Novak with whom he made his home and his brother, Frank Novak (the late Fannie) also of Moon Township. Edward, a member of Pittsburgh Local #2, began his career as a brick layer moving up to masonry supervisor with the Dick Corporation. He worked on many buildings in Pittsburgh such as Pitt Towers, Hillman Library, UPMC Presbyterian and Salk Hall. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, VFW Post 402, SNPJ, and was a lifetime member of the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Department. As part of the greatest generation, he proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy during the storming of Normandy. Edward loved to dance and would travel all over the East Coast just to dance. He enjoyed making Bolo ties and had over 150 pairs of cowboy boots.
