McWILLIAMS GERMAINE (WELTON) Germaine (Welton) McWilliams left us to be with the angels on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Paul; cherished mother of Paula; godmother of John Kelly; and grandma to her Tad, Baby, Tinky and Toby. She was predeceased by her parents, Forrest Ford Welton and Wanda Welton. It is impossible to capture the impact of her life in a few sentences, her elegance, keen mind, business acumen, extraordinary heart and her most marked characteristic, compassion. Whether an animal in need, friends who were suffering or challenging times for her family, she was always there. She dearly loved her "Mt. Alvernia girls", the years dedicated to volunteering at St. Francis, her Shirley and her Leslie and above all her husband and daughter. She will be forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her, suffice it to say that the world of her family and friends will never be quite the same again without her. Her family respectfully suggests that should donations be made in her memory, The McWilliams Scholarship Fund at Heritage Community Initiatives or Animal Friends be considered. Friends will be received JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Ave. and Devonshire St., freyvogelfuneralhome.com Sunday 2-6 p.m. Funeral Monday, Mass of Christian Burial St. Stanislaus Church (Strip District) 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Preceded in death by his wife, Jean Risser Aiken; his sister, Elizabeth Aiken Shinabarger; brother, Richard Little Aiken; and nephews, Charles Paull Aiken and William James Aiken lll. After attending Edgewood High School, he entered Allegheny College in 1939, graduating in 1942 with a BA in Business Admin./Pre-Law. He was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He joined the Army Air Corps right out of college in 1942. He was stationed at Hickam Air Base in Honolulu, Hawaii for the duration of World War II, as a clerk, rising to the rank of Corporal. He loved Hawaii and spoke of this love for many years to come, even mentioning that if he could find a way, he would move back there. Post WWII, he entered the University of Pittsburgh Law School where he obtained his law degree in 1948. Sadly his father, also an Attorney, died the same year. Jim stepped in and took over his father's practice. Over the following decades, he rebuilt the practice into his own where he remained for the duration of his career. He married Jean Risser, the love of his life, in 1951. They were married for 61 years. Jean was the Associate Dean and Librarian at the University of Pittsburgh. Jim was a longtime member of the University Club in Oakland and a life supporter of the Republican National Committee. He was also a member of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. As a member of the Globetrotters Club, London, England, Jim was an avid world traveler. He and his wife, Jean, visited over 200 countries. They were both lovers of art, history and culture. Their home was filled with books, music and art. He also loved sports and his hometown. The Steelers, the Pirates and Pitt football were important to him. Being present at Forbes Field in the right field bleachers for game seven of the 1960 World Series, he loved recounting how "everything just shook.." after Mazeroski's homer. Jim will be remembered as a kind, responsible man with a great intellect and a dry sense of humor, always with a twinkle in his eye.
