Panucci, Sr., of Bellevue, formerly of McKees Rocks, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2013. AMBROSE COL. JOHN W. III (USAF RET.) Age 68, passed away December 19, 2013, after a courageous fight against ALS for over two years. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he graduated from Duquesne University in 1966 and also earned two Master's degrees. He had a distinguished 26 year career in the U.S. Air Force, earning the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal. John served overseas with two tours in Vietnam, and numerous stateside bases. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his career as a defense contractor with General Dynamics, retiring in 2012. John was an active member of Poquoson Kiwanis, Poquoson Exchange Club, and Tidewater Z Car Club. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cecelia Sis Ambrose; daughter, Jennifer; son, Phillip; mother, Irene Ambrose; brother, Gary Ambrose; and five grandchildren, Zachary, Zayne, and Sophia Dallal, and Carissa and Maxwell John Ambrose. His father, John W. Ambrose, Jr. preceded him in death. The family will receive friends and family for a memorial celebration of his life on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at the Poquoson Yacht Club, followed by a reception at the Club. Guests are encouraged to attend the service in John's favorite attire, jeans, and a t-shirt. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, with full Air Force honors, at a later date. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held in Pittsburgh at a later date. Loving wife of Donald William Denniston for forty six years; mother of Ellen Pine (deceased), Sherwood Pine and wife Nancy of Keystone Heights, FL, John Pine and wife Rosel of Orange Park, FL, Susan Denniston and husband James Glinski of Scituate, MA, William Denniston and wife Hilda of Northville, MI, David Denniston and spouse Todd Yancey of San Francisco, CA, and Richard Denniston and wife Marina Sansiñena of Buenos Aires, Argentina; proud grandmother of Elizabeth Markowitz and husband Neil, Alendra Pine, Nicholas Pine, Kristina Denniston, Andrew Denniston, Tomás Denniston, and Lucas Denniston; sister of Fred Hamlett (deceased) and wife Hazel (deceased), Bruce Hamlett and wife Diana of Jupiter, FL. Betty was born October 20, 1923 in Orange, Massachusetts to Roger and Ellen Wilson Hamlett. She graduated from Athol High School, Athol, MA and Bridgewater State Teachers College, Bridgewater, MA. She was married to Sherwood Pine for 18 years until his death. They had three children. She gained four more children when she married Donald Denniston in 1967. Betty taught English and Language Arts for 25 years, 18 in the North Hills school system in Pittsburgh, PA until her retirement in 1983. Betty and Don retired to Gainesville, FL in 1988 and have enjoyed traveling the world together and visiting children and grandchildren near and far. Throughout her life, Betty has loved reading and writing poetry and found joy singing in the church choir. She has been an active member of PEO and the Gainesville Garden Club. But it is her family and friends she loved the most. A private service has been held. On January 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. a Memorial Service followed by a reception to celebrate her life will be held at The Village, 8000 NW 27th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606. All are welcome.
