RITTER DIANE NELSON Diane Ritter, age 62, with the love of her life, Brian, at her side, died on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at home in McMurray, Pennsylvania. Diane was born on June 25, 1953, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Walter and Hazel Nelson. She was the youngest of three children spending their childhood on Franklin Drive in McMurray. Her father's sense of humor and her mother's love served as the framework of her life. Her wit, intelligence and stylish flair were beyond compare. She attended school in Peters Township and graduated third in her class in 1971. After high school she continued her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she began dating her husband of 40 years, Brian Ritter. After graduating summa cum laude and being the kind of person who was forever seeking a challenge, she took employment at Ketchum Marketing Agency, accumulating 20 years of advertising/media experience. Brian and Diane began their 40 year marriage back in the Pittsburgh area and then moved to Bethel Park where they started their family. Many lifelong friendships were formed during the wonderful evenings spent on their deck with the young families of Hershire Drive. As their family grew so did their desire to move back to their roots in Peters Township. In 1986 they settled in Peters, on N. Heide Lane and eventually to their lovely home on Scarborough Lane. By then they had four daughters and her love and devotion to her girls was profound. Diane spent the next 21 years back and forth from every school in the district, always impeccably dressed with perfectly matching shoes. During her family's time in the district, she had a student at the high school for 16 straight years. Her own intellect, coupled with the love of children propelled her into a second career of volunteerism that cannot be rivaled. The best and highest use of her love and intelligence was her devotion to children. It all began as she worked on committees within the PTA's but soon everyone knew that they needed her strength, leadership and attention for detail at a higher level. Her leadership roles spanned from being a PTA officer and later PTA President to eventually becoming Area Council President. All these positions ultimately lead to her serving on the Peters Township School Board for eight years and serving as school board president for two years. From chairman of a committee in the PTA to being re-elected to the school board by the most votes ever recorded, she was always professional, prepared and innovative, following every rule and policy to the letter of the law. Her memory of detail gave her an extraordinary ability to lead and as a tireless champion for ALL children, her legacy of great care and concern will live on in her many accomplishments in education. Her circle of friends throughout these years was large and ever expanding. From the school activities to her bible study, from her neighbors to the coffee shop on the trail, everyone enjoy talking, laughing and working with her. But the consensus of all these friends would be that each and every person respected her deeply. For seven years, she attacked her multiple myeloma with the same tenacity and commitment as she did all her other responsibilities. Her family will be forever grateful to Dr. Agha and his team at the Hillman Cancer Center. Her family and friends will always remember her grace, dignity and courage as she faced this insurmountable challenge. She will be missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Diane's gifts and memory will live on in her immediate family members. Husband, Brian Ritter; daughters, Devon Hames (Cory), Paige Carroll (Chad), Alex Ritter and Rebecca Ritter; grandchildren, Heidi Risner, Daniel and Adalyn Hames; sister, Carol Iannuzzi (Chuck). Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and Family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, 724-941-3211 on Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday 11 a.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Center Church Rd., McMurray. Everyone please meet at church. Interment private. In lieu of flowers the family would like for her memory to live on in donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
