MACE MARY LOUISE BORN OCTOBER ...

MACE MARY LOUISE Born October 3, 1915, died June 14, 2015, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She had a special love of life and in her 100 years of living she lived everyday as if it were her last; she lived life to the fullest and if you could not keep up you were left behind, always looking forward never in the past. A pioneer woman, entrepreneur and businesswoman, in the 1960's she owned a beauty salon with 15 employees. She and her husband "Bud" built their homes from Pittsburgh, to Florida, to Los Angeles to Reno. She and Bud loved to ballroom dance. As a child her family had the first automobile in town. How many people can say they used a horse and buggy as their primary mode of transportation and then also got to drive a Dodge Viper and fly in a jet all in one lifetime? From weddings in Hawaii, Mexico, Florida and Pittsburgh, to "shot skis" in Montana with Michael and Meghan, to chili parties and the penny slots in Reno, her life was not ordinary, it was exceptional. She had a great wit, always precise and to the point, calling it like she saw it and never bowing to anyone. She believed in the honor and sanctity of work and she worked for Benefit Plan Administrators for 25 years, including the month prior to her death. Her accountant noted that he had never seen a larger social security check. She loved to sew, travel, her gardening, roses and crackers and heater packs made her day. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and attended two Super Bowl games. She was a "Gamer Babe" at the Giants World Series victory, cheering on Pablo Sandoval when he hit his three homeruns. She never missed an Indianapolis 500 and visited with great-granddaughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Shane; and great- great-grandson, Mason who live in Indianapolis. Watching the Steelers play at home with son, Bill and Mrs. LeBeau was a treat. When attending the Kentucky Derby she enjoyed staying with her son Bob's family. Going to Bruce and Terry's annual parties were highlights of her fall season. One of her last adventures was to star in a Warren Miller Ski Movie. She had three sons, John William Mace (wife Jean), Robert Charles Mace (wife Judi) and James Gilbert Mace (wife Pam). She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Bud" Mace. She is survived by her sister, Frances Fichtner; as well as eight grandchildren, James (Deb) Mace, David Mace, Kathy (Bob) Mikulski, Michael (Deb) Mace, Melissa (Randy) Ries, Jaclyn (Andrew) Crisp, Amy, Beth; 16 great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Shane) Hardwick, Kristin (Michael) Rose, James Mace II, Meghan Mace, William Mace, Thomas Mace, Wendy (James) Craig, Amy (Justin) Foertsch, Jessica Mikulski, Mary Mace, Angela Mace, Nicholas Mace, Avery Ries, Noah Crisp, Wyatt Crisp, Asher Crisp; and seven great- great-grandchildren, Mason Hardwick, Michael Rose, Emma Rose, Lauren Craig, Madelyn Craig, Donovan Foertsch and Thomas Foertsch. A celebration will be held on June 29, 2015, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno, Nevada. A celebration will be held in her hometown of Pittsburgh in July. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the Humane Society in Mary Mace's name. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
