SEVCIK MATTHEW FRANK ANTONIN Matthew Frank Antonin Sevcik was born Dec. 7, 1964, in Royal Oak, MI, the son of Dr. Frank and LaForrest Ann Sevcik. Raised in Reston, VA, Matthew attended Herndon High where he excelled at basketball and soccer. Following his parent's alma mater, Matthew completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan in 1986, and then began his studies at Eastern Virginia Medical School. On Sept. 9, 1989 he married Lisa Jo Farley at The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. After receiving his medical degree in 1990, he and Lisa moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where Matthew was a resident physician at St. Francis Hospital. Following their dreams, in 1996 the couple embarked upon a year-long back-packing trip around the world, and visited many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Nepal, and Turkey. Returning to Pittsburgh, Matthew was an Interventional Radiology Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, and then worked for several years with Almar Radiology. A daughter, Olivia Louise, was born in 1998, and a second daughter, Ruby Holladay, was born in 2000. In 2002 Matthew joined Brighton Radiology and the family moved to Sewickley. Matthew was known for carrying his silver lunchpail to work, and for wearing vintage ties. He truly cherished his job and the many friendships he made with his co-workers and patients. In his free time, Matthew loved mountain biking, hiking, scuba diving, reading, gardening, and working on his cabin in the Laurel Highlands. He was passionate about music: bluegrass, jazz, and The Grateful Dead, in particular, and often attended concerts and festivals. Family trips to Mexico, New Orleans, Arizona, and The Outer Banks provided for many fine memories. Sadly, in 2010 Matthew was diagnosed with early-onset frontotemporal dementia, and retired from practicing medicine. Dr. Eric McDade from UPMC was instrumental in guiding Matthew throughout his long suffering with dignity and compassion. Matthew still enjoyed visiting with his friends, and was very proud to watch his daughters perform on stage in musicals. In 2013 Matthew moved to Arden Courts on Perry Highway, a memory care facility which welcomed him with open arms, despite the fact that he was decades younger than any resident they had ever had. It was there, in 2014, that Matthew and Lisa celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, and then later that year Matthew was thrown a wonderful 50th birthday party, which would be his last. Matthew passed away with his wife and mother at his side, and will be forever remembered as a humble, dedicated, and brave man who had a great sense of humor and a beaming smile. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Dr. Frank Sevcik; and his father-in-law, Richard Farley. Along with his wife and daughters, Matthew is survived by his dear mother, Ann, of Sewickley; a sister, Erica Sevcik, with daughter, Bailey, of Fresno, CA; his mother-in-law, JoAnne Farley of Sewickley; and a sister-in-law, Christa McDowell and son, Scott, of Morenci, MI and son, Benjamin Farquhar, of Atlanta, MI. Cremation has taken place. On Sat. June 6, 2015, there will be a Memorial Service honoring Matthew held at Quaker Valley Middle School in Sewickley. The family will be greeting guests from 10 a.m., with Service beginning at 11 a.m. Arrangements by COPELANDS. Those wishing to make a contribution in Matthew's name might choose to donate to research for fronto-temporal dementia, which at this time has no treatment or cure, at www.theaftd.org/ get-involved/ways-to-give/electronically. Likewise, a donation to a local food bank would also be fitting, for this was a need Matthew felt very passionate about. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
